Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Fasting

“My beloved Prophet advised me to do three things which I will never give up, if Allah wills. He advised me to pray Duha, to pray Witr before sleeping, and to fast three days of each month.”

“I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: “I have come to you from the two mountains of Tai and I have exhausted my camel, and exhausted myself; is there Hajj for me?’ He said: ‘Whoever offeres this morning prayer with us here, and came to Arafat before that, then he has completed the prescribed duties and his Hajj is complete.'”

the Prophet granted the camel herders a concession allowing them to stone the Jamrat on one day an not another.

“Some people had some extra land which they leased out in return for half of the yield, or one-third, or one-quarter. The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever has land, let him cultivate it, or give it to his brother to cultivate or keep it (without cultivating it).'”

“Ibn Al-Musayyab told me that Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet told him that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his nails or cut his hair for the first ten days Dhul-Jijjah.”‘

“Mu’awiyah went on Hajj and he called a group of Ansar to the Ka’bah. He said: ‘Did you hear the Messenger of Allah forbid gold?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘And I bear witness to that.'”

“The Messenger of Allah forbade (mixing) Az-Zahuw and At-Tamr, and raisins and dried dates (At-Tamr).”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The adulterer is not a believer at the moment when he is committing adultery, and the wine drinker is not a believer at the moment when he is drinking wine, and the thief is not a believer at the moment when he is stealing, and the robber is not a believer at the moment when he is robbing and people are looking on.'”

The Prophet (ﷺ) has a secretary named Sijill.

Two men claimed a camel or an animal and brought the case to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). But as neither of them produced any proof, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) declared that they should share it equally.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out to us leaning on a stick. We stood up to show respect to him. He said: Do not stand up as foreigners do for showing respect to one another.

“During the Farewell Hajj, while the Messener of allah was standing at Arafat, a Bedouin came to him begging while pulling on the edge of his Rida. He gave him something and he left. With that, begging was made unlawful, so the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Begging is not lawful for the rich nor for the physically fit, except for the one who is severely poor or in perilous debt. And whoever begs the people (merely) to increase his wealth, then on the Day of Judgment (the wealth he begged for) will be lacerations on his face and heated coals from Hell will be provided for him to eat. Whoever wishes, let him take a little, and whoever wishes, then let him take a lot.'”

There is another chain with a similar narration.

The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast with, then for him is the same reward as his (the fasting person’s), without anything being diminished from the reward of the fasting person.”

(Another chain) from An-Nu’man bin Bashir with similar.

From this father (Ibn Umar) who said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) often would swear with this oath: ‘No! By the Changer of the Hearts.'”

“I entered upon ‘Abdullah bin ‘Ukaim Abu Mabad Al-Juhani to visit him, while he had Humrah. I said:’Why don’t you hang something?’ He said: ‘Death is better than that. The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Whoever hangs something, he is entrusted to it.” Another chain reports a similar narration.

that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “You shall not return to Allah with what is more virtuous than what came from Him.” Meaning the Qur’an.

that his father informed him, that his father – may Allah have mercy upon him – informed him, he said: “I saw a man in Bukhara upon a mule wearing a black Imamah, saying: ‘It was given to me by the Messenger of Allah.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) counted them out in my hand” – or – “in his hand: ‘At-Tasbīḥ is half of the Scale, and “All praise is due to Allah (Al-Ḥamdulillāh)” fills it, and At-Takbīr (Allāhu Akbar) fills what is between the sky and the earth, and fasting is half of patience, and purification is half of faith.”

“I heard Fatimah bint Qais say that her husband divorced her ttree times, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not say that she was entitled to accommodation and maintenance.”

Jamilah bint Salul came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “By Allah, I do not find any fault with Thabit regarding his religion nor his behavior, but I hate disbelief after becoming Muslim and I cannot stand him. “The Prophet (ﷺ) said to her: ‘WiIl you give him back his garden?” She said: “Yes.” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told him to take back his garden from her and no more than that.

“If I go quickly between Safa and Marwah, that is because I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) going quickly, and if I walk that is because I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) walking, even though I am an old man.”

“We performed Hajj with ‘Umar bin Khattab, and when we wanted to depart from Muzdalifah, he said: ‘The idolators used to say: “May the sun rise over you, O Thabir!* So that we may begin our journey (to Mina),” and they did not depart until the sun had risen.’ So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) differed from them by departing before the sun rose.”

“We slaughtered a horse and ate its meat during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).”

“Whoever kills a house lizard with one blow will have such and such a reward. Whoever kills it with two blows will have such and such a reward,” less than the first. “And whoever kills it with three blows will have such and such reward,” less than that mentioned the second time.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to cover our vessels, tie up our water skins and turn over our vessels.”

“Bismillah, turbatu ardina, biriqati ba’dina, liyushfa saqimuna. Bi’dhni Rabbina (In the Name of Allah, the dust of our land mixed with the saliva of one of us, to cure our sick one by the permission of our Lord).”

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade two kinds of dress. Those two types of dress are Ishtimalus- Samma’* and Ihtiba’ in a single garment, with no part of it upon his private part.**

“The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a man who had dyed his hair with henna and said: ‘How handsome this is!’ Then he passed by another who had dyed his hair with henna and Katam, and said: ‘This one is more handsome than that one.’ Then he passed by another who had dyed his hair yellow and said: ‘This one is more handsome than all of them.’”

“Allahumma inna na’udhu bika min sharri ma ursila bihi (O Allah, we seek refuge with You from the evil of that with which it is sent).” Then if it rained he would say: “Allahumma sayyiban nafi’an (O Allah, a beneficial rain),” two or three times. And if Allah dispelled it and it did not rain, he would praise Allah for that.

“I dislike (to see in a dream) a chain around the neck, but I like to see fetters on the feet, for fetters (represent) steadfastness in religion.”

“Worship during the time of bloodshed is like emigrating to me.”

“Why are you weeping?” He said: “I am weeping because of something that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘A little showing off is polytheism and whoever shows enmity towards a friend of Allah has declared war on Allah. Allah loves those who se righteousness and piety are hidden, those who, if they are absent, are not missed, and if they are present, they are not invited or acknowledged. Their hearts are lamps of guidance and they get out of every trial and difficulty.’”

“People are like a hundred camels; you can hardly find one worth riding among them.”

“The Jews split into seventy-one sects and my nation will split into seventy-three sects.”

“Abu Bakr stood up and praised and glorified Allah, then he said: ‘O people, you recite this Verse – “O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the (right) guidance no hurt can come to you from those who are in error.” – but I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘If people see some evil but do not change it, soon Allah will send His punishment upon them all.’” (One of the narrators) Abu Usamah repeated: “Indeed I heard that Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say.”

“One day some hot food was brought to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he ate. Then when he had finished he said: ‘Praise is to Allah, no hot food has entered my stomach since such and such a time.’”
