Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Zakah

“The poor man (Miskin) is not the one who leaves if you give him a morsel or two, or a date or two.” They said: “Then who is the Miskin, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “The one who does not possess independence of means, and the people do not know of his need, so that they could give him charity.”

The Prophet said: “Whoever is killed defending his wealth, he is a martyr.”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Dates for dates, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, salt for salt, exchanged hand to hand. Whoever gives more or takes more has engaged in Riba unless they are of different types.”

“do not sell surplus water, for the Prophet forbade the sale of surplus water.”

“A man gave the Messenger of Allah a skin full of wine, and the Prophet said to him;’ did you know that Allah has forbidden it?’ He whispered something and I did not understand what he whispered as I wanted to. I asked a person who was beside him and the Prophet said to him; ‘What are you whispering about?’ He said: ‘I told him to sell it.’ The Prophet said: ‘The One Who forbade drinking it also forbade selling it.’ Then he opened the vessels and poured out their contents.

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘I used to forbid you (to store) the sacrificial meat, but now eat it and store it; and whosoever wants to visit graves (may do so), for they are a reminder of the Hereafter; and drink but avoid all intoxicants.”

I read out (this tradition) to Sa’id b. Ya’qub al-Taliqini, and I said to him: Ibn al-Mubarak transmitted (this tradition) to you from Sa’id Abi Shuja’ who said: ‘Uthman b. Sahl b. Rafi’ b. Khadij narrated it to me saying: I was an orphan being nourished under the guardianship of Rafi’ b. Khadij and I performed Hajj with him. My brother ‘Imran b. Sahl then came to me and said: We rented out land to so-and-so for two hundred dirhams. He said: Leave it, for the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade renting land.

various corruptions will arise in my community, so strike with sword the one who tries to cause separation in the matter of Muslims when they are united, whoever he be.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Treating those under one’s authority well produces prosperity, but an evil nature produces evil fortune.

the Messenger of Allah said: “Five are Fawasiq which may be killed in the Haram: the mouse, the scorpion, the crow, the kite, and the barbed dog.”

‘Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak explained good character, and then he said: “It is a smiling face, doing one’s best in good, and refraining from harm.”

“Whoever commits a sin in this world and is punished for it, Allah (STW) is too just to repeat the punishment for his slave (in the hereafter). And whoever commits a sin in this world and Allah conceals him, Allah is too generous to go back to something that He has pardoned.”

“Intense fever is from the heat of Hell-fire, so cool it down with water.”
