Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Purification

“None of you should urinate into still water and then perform Wudu’ with it.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Clean earth is the Wudu’ of the Muslim, even if he does not find water for ten years.'”

“I am the most knowledgeable of people about the time of the ‘Isha’ prayer. The Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray it when the moon set on the third night of the month.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to delay the later ‘Isha’.” It is described as the later ‘Isha’ prayer because the Maghrib prayer is sometimes called ‘Isha’ prayer, but it is the first ‘Isha’. Some scholars are of the opinion that it is disliked to call Maghrib ‘Isha’ without qualifying it as the first ‘Isha’. See Fath Al-Bari.

They heard Abu Hurairah say: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The Tasbih is for men and clapping is for women.'”

, when she was told that Ibn ‘Umar said that the deceased is punished due to the weeping of the living for him, ‘Aishah said: “May Allah forgive Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman; he is not lying, but he has forgotten or made a mistake. The Messenger of Allah passed by a (deceased) Jewish woman for whom people were weeping and he said: ‘They are weeping for her and she is being punished.”‘

‘Amr bin Shu’aib wrote to ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Husain to offer condolences for a son of his who had died. In his letter he mentioned that he had heard his father narrate, that his grandfather, ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-As said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Allah does not approve for His believing slave, if He takes away his loved one from among the people of the Earth, and he bears that with patience and seeks reward, and says that which he is commanded any reward less than Paradise.”‘

“There is no deceased person for whom a group of Muslims whose number reaches one hundred, offers the funeral prayer, interceding for him; but their intercession for him will be accepted.” (One of the narrators) Sallam said: “I narrated it to Shu’aib bin Al-Habhab and he said: ‘Anas bin Malik narrated it to me from the Prophet.'”

“Usamah bin Zaid was asked – while I was sitting with him: ‘How did the Messenger of Allah travel during the Farewell Pilgrimage when he moved on?’ He said: ‘He rode at a moderate pace, and if he found some open space, he would gallop.'”

the Prophet hurried in the valley of Muhassir.

“What is this?” It was said: “It was given in charity to Barirah.” He said: “It is charity for her and a gift for us.”

“I heard the Messenger of Allah raise his voice with the command to kill dogs. All dogs were to be killed except dogs used for hunting or herding livestock.”

Muhayysah bin Mas’ud and ‘Abdullah bin Sahl went to Khaibar for some need they had there, and they parted among the palm trees. ‘Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, and ‘Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, and his brother ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Shl, and Huwayysah, and Musayysah, his paternal cousins, came to the Messenger of Allah. ‘Abdur-Rahan spoke about his brother’s case, but he was the youngest of them, so the Messenger of Allah said: “Let the elders speak first.” So they spoke about their companions, and the Messenger of Allah said: Let fifty of your swear an oath.” The said: “O Messenger of Allah, it is something that we did not witness: how can we swear an oath?” He said: “Then let the Jews swear fifty oaths to their innocence.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, they area) a disbelieving people,” So the Messenger of Allah paid the blood money himself Sahl said: “I entered a Mirbad of theirs, and one of those camels kicked me.”

‘Abdullah bin SAahi and Nubayysah bin Mas’ud bin Zaid went o Khaibar, and at that time there was peace treaty. They went their separate ways to about their business, then Muhayysah came upon ‘Abdullah in Sahl lying dead in a pool of blood. He buried him, then he came to AL-Madinah. ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Sahi. Huwayysah, and Muhayysah came to the Messenger of Allah, and ‘Abdur-Rehman started to speak, but he was the youngest of them, so the Messenger of Allah said: “Let the elders speak first.” So he fell silent and they (the other two) spoke. The Messenger of Allah said: “Will you swear fifty oaths, then you will receive compensation or be entitled to retaliate?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, how can we swear an oath when we did not witness, and did not see (what happened)?” He said: “The n can the Jews swear fifty oaths declaring their innocence?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, how can we accept the oath of a disbelieving people?” So the Messenger of Allah paid the blood money himself.

“Abdullah said: ‘There are three (traits), whoever has them is a hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies; when he is entrusted with something, he betrays that trust; and when he makes a promise, he breaks it. Whoever has one of these (traits) then a trait of hypocrisy has not ceased in him, until he leaves it.'” (Sahih Mawquf)

“My father wrote to ‘Ubaidullah bin Abi Bakrah – who was the judge of Sijistan – saying: ‘Do not pass judgment between two people when you are angry, for I heard the Messenger of Allah say: No one should pass judgment between two people when he is angry.'”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When your brethren were smitten at the battle of Uhud, Allah put their spirits in the crops of green birds which go down to the rivers of Paradise, eat its fruit and nestle in lamps of gold in the shade of the Throne. Then when they experienced the sweetness of their food, drink and rest, they asked: Who will tell our brethren about us that we are alive in Paradise provided with provision, in order that they might not be disinterested in jihad and recoil in war? Allah Most High said: I shall tell them about you; so Allah sent down; “And do not consider those who have been killed in Allah’s path.” till the end of the verse.

The Jews came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: We eat which we kill but we do not eat which Allah kills? So Allah revealed: “Eat not of (meats) on which Allah’s name hath not been pronounced.” to the end of the verse.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone swears on oath is the course which he says: “By al-Lat” he should say: There is no god but Allah, and that if anyone says to his friend: Come and let me play for money with you, he should give something in charity (sadaqah).

They (the people) asked: In which should we drink, Prophet of Allah? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: You should use those skin vessels that are tied at their mouths.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in the morning prayer at al-Hudaibiyyah after rain which has fallen during the night, and when he finished, he turned to the people and said: Do you know what your Lord has said ? They said: Allah and His Apostle know best. He said: This morning there were among mt servants one who believes in me and one who disbelieves. The one who said: “We have been given rain by Allah’s grace and mercy” is the one who believes in me and disbelieves in the star ; but the one who said: “We have been given rain by such and such a rain star,” is the one who disbelieves in me and believes in the star.

I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that some dispute which involved retaliation was brought to him but he commanded regarding it for remission.

A king of the foreigners will come and prevail over all the cities except Damascus.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The Qadariyyah are the Magians of this community. If they are ill, do not pay a sick visit to them, and if they die, do not attend their funerals.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Every sermon which does not contain a tashahhud is like a hand cut off.

She saw the Prophet (ﷺ) sitting with his arms round his legs. She said: When I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in such humble condition in the sitting position (according to Musa’s version), I trembled with fear.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave us an address and said: The best of you is the one who defends his tribe, so long as he commits no sin. Abu Dawud said: Abu Ayyub b. Suwaid is weak.

By him in whose hand my soul is, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another: should I not guide you to something doing which you will love one another: spread out salutation among you.

“The Prophet would dislike to sleep before Isha and to talk after it.”

(Another chain) with the same or similar (Hadith as no. 721).

“Allah’s Hand is with the Jama’ah.”

‘Indeed Allah will not gather my Ummah ” – or he said: “Ummah upon deviation, and Allah’s Hand is over the Jama’ah, and whoever deviates, he deviates to the Fire.”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There are six things due from the believer to another believer: Visiting him when he is ill, attending (his funeral) to him when he dies, accepting his invitation when he invites, giving him Salam when he meets him, replying to him when he sneezes, and wishing him well when he is absent and when he is present.”

“I said to Abu Dharr: ‘If I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) then I would asked him.” He said: ‘What is it that you would have asked him about?’ I said: ‘I would have asked him if Muhammad saw his Lord?’ He said: ‘I did ask him that, and he (ﷺ) said: I saw light.'”

“The Prophet (ﷺ) would not sleep until he recited Az-Zumar and Banu Isra’il.” Muhammad bin Ismail informed me: “This Abu Lubabah’s (a narrator in the chain) name is Marwan, the freed slave of Abdur-Rahman bin Ziyad. He heard from Aisha, and Hammad bin Zaid heard from him.”

when he intended to undertake a journey, Ibn `Umar used to say to a person to “Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to bid us farewell.” Then he would say: “I entrust to Allah your religion, and your trusts, and the last of your deeds (Astawdi`ullāha dīnaka wa amānataka wa khawātīma `amalik).”

It was narrated from ‘Amr bin Shu’aib, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade sitting in circles in the mosque on Fridays before the prayer.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fasted while he was traveling, and he broke his fast.”

the Messenger of Allah returned his daughter to Abul-‘As bin Rabi’ after two years, on the basis of the first marriage contract.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever buys a Muhaffalah, (1) he has the choice (of annulling the deal) for three days. If he returns it, then he must also give wheat equal to twice, the amount of its milk, or equal to the amount of its milk.”‘

“Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his heirs. Whoever leaves behind poor dependents and a debt, it is for us to take care of – or he said: ‘It is for Allah and His Messenger (to take care of) – I am the heir of the one who has no heir, I will pay the blood money on his behalf and inherit from him. And the maternal uncle is the heir of the one who has no heir, he pays blood money on his behalf and inherits from him.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade making Nabidh in (earthenware) jars.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade Qaza’.”

“The stronger believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive to seek that which will benefit you and do not feel helpless. If something overwhelms you, then say: Qaddarallah, wa ma sha’a fa’al (It is the decree of Allah and what He wills He does). And beware of (saying) ‘If only,’ for ‘If only’ opens the door to Satan.”

A man from the Ansar had a dispute with Zubair in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) concerning a stream in the Harrah which they used to irrigate the date-palm trees. The Ansari said: “Let the water flow” but Zubair refused. So they referred that dispute to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who said: “Irrigate (your land), O Zubair., and then let the water flow to your neighbor.” The Ansari became angry and said “O Messenger of Allah, is it because he is your cousin?” The face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) changed color (because of anger) and he said: “O Zubair, irrigate (your land) then block the water until it flows back to the walls around the date-palm trees.” Zubair said: “By Allah, I think that this verse was revealed concerning this matter. ‘ But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.’ “
