Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Leading the Prayer (Al-Imamah)

“There was a woman who used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was beautiful, one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people used to go to the front row to avoid seeing her, and some used to go to the back row so that when they bowed they could see her from beneath their armpits. Then Allah revealed the words: ‘To Us are known those of you who hasten forward and those who lag behind.”

He saw the Prophet (ﷺ), when he started to pray, raise his hands until his thumbs were almost level with his earlobes.

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Wash the Muhrim in the two garments in which he entered Ihram, and wash him with water and lotus leaves, and shroud him in his two garments, and do not put perfume on him nor cover his head, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection in Ihram.”‘

That the Messenger of Allah would not fast any two consecutive months except Shaban and Ramadan.

That the Prophet would not fast any month of the year in full except Shaban and he used to join it to Ramadan.

“The Messenger of Allah did not fast any month more than Shaban; he used to fast (all of) it, or most of it.”

It was narrated from ‘Aishah the wife of the Prophet, and Umm Salamah the wife of the Prophet that Abu Hudhaifah bin ‘Utbah bin Rabi’ah bin Abd Shams –who was one of those who had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah– adopted Salim –who was the freed slave of an Ansari woman– as the Messenger of Allah had adopted Zaid bin Harithah. Abu Hudhaifah bin ‘Utbah married Salim to his brother’s daughter Hind bint Al-Walid bin ‘Utbah bin Rabi’ah. Hind bint Al-Walid bin ‘Utbah was one of the first Muhajir women, and at that time she was one of the best single women of the Quraish. When Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed the following concerning Zaid bin Harithah: “Call them by (the names of) their fathers, that is more just with Allah. But if you know not their fathers’ (names, call them) your brothers in Faith and Mawalikum (your freed slaves).’ Each of them went back to being called after his father, and if a person’s father was unknown, he was named after his former masters.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Do not observe perpetual fasting. If any of you wants to observe perpetual fast, he should observe it until the dawn. They (the people) asked: You observe perpetual fast ? He replied: My position is not like that of yours. There is One Who gives me to eat, and there is One who gives me to drink.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If you gain a victory over the men of Jews, kill them. So Muhayyisah jumped over Shubaybah, a man of the Jewish merchants. He had close relations with them. He then killed him. At that time Huwayyisah (brother of Muhayyisah) had not embraced Islam. He was older than Muhayyisah. When he killed him, Huwayyisah beat him and said: O enemy of Allah, I swear by Allah, you have a good deal of fat in your belly from his property.

That the Prophet (ﷺ) used to accept a gift and make return for it.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about a slave-woman who commits fornication, and she is not married: If she commits fornication, flog her: if she commits fornication again flog her; if only for a rope of hair (dafir). Ibn Shihab: I do not know whether he (the Prophet) said it is a third or a fourth time.

When one of you yawns, he should hold his hand over his mouth, for the devil enters.

when you go to your bed while you are in the state of purification. The other said: Perform ablution like the ablution for prayer. He then transmitted the tradition to the effect as Mu’tamir transmitted.

if a man becomes the client of any people without the permission of his patrons (i.e. those who have freed him), on him will be the curse of Allah, of angels and of all people; no obligatory or supererogatory worship will be accepted from him.

“Allah’s Messenger entered the Masjid, and a man entered and offered Salat. Then he came to give Salam to the Propet. He returned the Salam to him and said: ‘Go back and perform Salat, for indeed you have not prayed.’ So the man returned to pray as he had prayed. Then he came to give Salam to the Prophet. He returned Salam to him, then : ‘When you stand for Salat then say the Takbir, then recite what is easy for you of the Quran. Then bow until you are at rest while bowing, then rise up until you are at rest sitting. Do that in all of your Salat.'”

He passed by Al-Hasan bin Ali while he was performing Salat and he had gathered his locks at the back of his head, so he (Abu Rafi) undid them, and Al-Hasan turned to him angrily. He said: “Resume your Salat and do not be angry, for indeed I heard Allah’s Messenger (S) saying: ‘That is the seat of Ash-Shaitan.'”

the Prophet said: “Whoever does not leave false speech, and acting according to it, then Allah is not in any need of him leaving his food and his drink.”

A man came to the Prophet, and he had uttered Zihar upon his wife then he had intercourse with her. So he said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! I uttered Zihar against my wife, then I had intercourse with her before atoning.’ He (pbuh) said: “What caused you to do that, may Allah have mercy upon you?’ He said: ‘I saw her anklets in the moonlight.’ He said: ‘Then do not go near her until you have done what Allah ordered (for it).'”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Jibril came to me and gave me glad tidings, that whoever dies without associating anything with Allah, then he will enter Paradise. I said: “Even if he commits adultery and theft?” He said: “Yes.”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Ha Mim Ad-Dukhan during the night, in the morning seventy thousand angels seek forgiveness for him.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to stand by the root of a tree, or by a tree trunk, then he started to use a pulpit. The tree trunk made a grieving sound.” Jabir said: “So that the people in the mosque could hear it. Until the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to it and rubbed it, and it calmed down. Some of them said: ‘If he had not come to it, it would have grieved until the Day of Resurrection.’”

was asked about a man who divorced his wife then had intercourse with her, and there were no witnesses to his divorcing her or his taking her back. ‘Imran said: “You have divorced (her) in a manner that is not according to the Sunnah, and you have taken her back in a manner that is not according to the Sunnah. Bring people to witness your divorcing her and taking her back.”

the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade selling Hablul-Habalah.
