Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Purification

“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) got up at night, he would brush his mouth with the Siwak.”

“I heard Abu Wa’il (say) that Hudhaifah said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to some people’s garbage dump and urinated while standing.'”

“And he wiped over his Khuffs,” but Mansur did not mention the wiping. Meaning, in this route, since Shu’bah narrated it from both Sulaiman and Mansur.

“When you clean yourselves (with stones, after defecating), use an odd number.”

“The idolators said: ‘We see that your companion teaches you how to go to the toilet.’ He said: ‘Yes, he forbade us from cleaning ourselves with our right hand, and from facing toward the Qiblah, and he said: ‘None of you should clean with less than three stones.'”

“When you perform Wudu’, sniff water in your nose and blow it out, and when you use small stones (to remove filth), then make it off (numbered).”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw some people whose heels were still dry, so he said: ‘Woe to the heels from the Fire. Perform Wudu’ properly.'”

“He would sprinkle his private parts with it.” Shaikh Ibn As-Sunni said: “Al-Hakam (one of the narrators) is Ibn Sufyan Ath-Thaqafi. The purpose is to ward off devilish whispers lest the person think any emission has taken place, and thus think that his Wudu’ has been invalidated.

“I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performing Wudu’ and sprinkling his private area (with water).”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Do Wudu’ properly.'” Isbighu Al-Wudu’. And this narration supports the claim that some of them used this expression to mean “three times” for each limb, rather than “properly.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I used to perform Ghusl together using one vessel.”

“My maternal aunt Maimunah told me that she and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to perform Ghusl from one vessel.”

“The Prophet (ﷺ) would put his head out while he was in I’tikaf and I would wash it, while I was menstruating.”

“The Prophet (ﷺ) would put his head out for me while he was performing I’tikaf and I would wash it, when I was menstruating.” Mujawir (“next door”) here means while performing I’tikaf.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would fondle one of his wives while she was menstruating, if she wore an Izar (waist wrap) that reached halfway down to the middle of her thighs or to her knees.” In the narration of Al-Laith: “Being covered with it.”

“I used to see it on the garment of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and scratch it off.”

“If one of us was menstruating, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would tell her to put on an Izar (waist wrap) then he would fondle her.”

“The head of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would rest in the lap of one of us when she was menstruating, and he would recite Qur’an.”

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that she used to comb the hair of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when she was menstruating and he was performing I’tikaf. He would put his head out to her while she was in her room.

“I heard Al-Qasim narrating that ‘Aishah said: ‘I used to perform Ghusl – the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I – from a single vessel for Janabah.'”

“We prayed at the time of ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul-‘Aziz, then we went to Anas bin Malik and found him praying. when he finished he said to us: ‘Have you prayed?’ We said: ‘We prayed Zuhr.’ He said: ‘I prayed ‘Asr.’ They said: ‘You have prayed early.’ He said: ‘Rather I prayed as I saw my companions pray.'”

“If the people knew what (virtue) there was in the call to prayer and the first row, and they not find any way to get to do that other than by drawing lots, they would do that. If they knew what (virtue) there was in coming early to prayer, they would compete to be first in the Masjid. If they knew what (virtue) there was in Al-‘Atamah and Subh, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.” Indicating the two mentioned items: that is the call to prayer and praying in the first row.

“I heard ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir say: ‘There are three times during which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade us from praying or burying our dead: When the sun had clearly started to rise until it was fully risen, when it was directly overhead at noon until it has passed the zenith, and when it was close to setting until it had fully set.'”

“He used to pray them before ‘Asr, but if he got distracted or forgot them, he would pray them after ‘Asr, and if he did a prayer he would be constant in it.”

“The Mu’adhdhin will be forgiven as far as his voice reaches, and every wet and dry thing will bear witness for him.”

“The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) traveled until he came to ‘Arafah, where he found that the tent had been pitched for him in Namirah, so he stopped there. Then when the sun had passed its zenith he called for Qaswa’ and she was saddled for him. Then when he reached the bottom of the valley he addressed the people. Then Bilal called the Adhan, then he said the Iqamah and he prayed Zuhr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed ‘Asr, and he did not offer any prayer in between them.” The name of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) mount which was a she-camel.

“When any one of you is praying, let him not spit in front of him, for Allah is in front of him when he prays.”

“The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ)visited Al Abbas in some land of ours outside the city, and we had a small dog and a donkey which was grazing. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) prayed Asr and they were in front of him, and they were not shooed away or pushed away.”

“The Iqamah for prayer was said, and we stood up and the rows were straightened, before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out to us. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to us and stood in the place where he prayed, before he said the Takbir he paused and said to us: ‘Stay where you are.’ So we stayed there, waiting for him, until he came out to us; he had performed Ghusl and his head was dripping with water. Then he said the Takbir and prayed.”

“I had no confusion in my mind from that time I embraced Islam, except when I recited a verse and another man recited it differently. I said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me this.’ And the other man said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me too.’ So I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, did you not teach me such and such a verse?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ The other man said: ‘Did you not teach me such and such a verse?’ He said: ‘Yes. Jibril and Mika’il, peace be upon them, came to me, and Jibril sat on my right and Mika’il on my left. Jibril, peace be upon him, said: “Recite the Quran with one way of recitation.’ Mika’il said: ‘Teach him more, teach him more- until there were seven modes of recitation, each of which is good and sound.'”

“I heard Abu Hurairah say: ‘I came back (from a journey) with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he heard a man reciting ‘Say: He is Allah, (the) One, Allah-us-Samad (the Self-Sufficient Master). He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none equal or comparable unto Him.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘It is guaranteed.’ We asked him: ‘What, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘Paradise.'”

“The Prophet (ﷺ) drew back the curtain when the people were in rows behind Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: ‘O people, there is nothing left of the features of Prophethood except a good dream that a Muslim sees or is seen by others for him.’ Then he said: ‘Verily, I have been forbidden from reciting the Qur’an when bowing or prostrating. As for bowing, glorify the Lord therein, and as for prostration, strive hard in supplication for it is more deserving of a response.'”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) drew aside the curtain when he had a cloth wrapped around his head during his final illness, and said: ‘O Allah, I have conveyed (the Message)’ three times. ‘There is nothing left of the features of Prophethood except a good dream that a person sees or is seen by others for him. But I have been forbidden to recite the Qur’an when bowing and prostrating, so when you bow, then glorify your Lord and when you prostrate, then strive hard in supplication, for it is more deserving of a response.'”

“I stayed overnight with my maternal aunt Maimunah bin Al-Harith, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stayed overnight with her. I saw him get up to relieve himself and he went to the waterskin and undid its string, then he performed wudu and that was moderate (in the amount of water used). Then he went to his bed and slept. Then he got up again and went to the waterskin and undid its string, and performed wudu again, like the first time. Then he stood and prayed, and when he prostrated he said: ‘Allahummaj’al fi qalbi nuran waj’al fi sami’ nuran waj’al fi basri nuran, waj’al min tahti nuran waj’al min fawqi nuran, wa ‘an yamii nuran wa ‘an yasari nuran waj’al amami nuran, waj’al khalfi nuran wa a’zimli nura (O Allah, place light in my heart, and place light in my hearing, and place light in my seeing, and place light beneath me, and place light above me, and light on my right, and light on my left, and place light behind me, and make the light greater for me.’) Then he slept until he started to snore, then Bilal came and woke him up for the prayer.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when bowing and prostrating: ‘Subhanakallahumma, Rabbana wa bihamdik. Allahumma-ghfirli (Glory be to You O Allah, Our Lord, and praise. O Allah, forgive me,” following the command of the Quran.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when bowing and prostrating: ‘Subhanaka Allahumma, Rabbana wa bihamdik. Allahumma-ghfirli (Glory be to You O Allah, Our Lord, and praise. O Allah, forgive me,” following the command of the Quran.

“When we prayed with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we used to say: “Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika’il.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Do not say “Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam.” Rather say: “At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu ‘alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu ‘alaina wa ‘ala ‘ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger).”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If one of you is not sure about his prayer, let him forget about what he is unsure of and complete his prayer on the basis of what he is sure of. When he is sure that he has completed it, let him prostrate twice while he is sitting. Then if he has prayed five (rak’ahs), they (the two prostrations) will make his prayer even-numbered, and if he had prayed four, they will annoy and humiliate the shaitan.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If one of you does not know whether he prayed three or four (rak’ahs), let him pray a rak’ah then prostrate twice after that when he is sitting. Then if he prayed five (rak’ahs), they (the two prostrations) will make his prayer even-numbered, and if he had prayed four, they will annoy and humiliate the shaitan.”

“If one of you is not sure about his prayer, let him estimate what he thinks is most likely to be correct and complete the prayer on that basis, then let him prostrate twice.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘If one of you is not sure about his prayer, let him estimate and prostrate twice after he has finished.”

When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat to say the tashahhud, he placed his left hand on his left thigh and pointed with his forefinger, and his gaze did not go beyond he finger with which he was pointing.

“Ammar bin Yasir led us in prayer and he made it brief. Some of the people said to him: ‘You made the prayer sort (or brief).’ He said: ‘Nevertheless I still recited supplications that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).’ When he got up and left, a man — he was my father but he did not name himself — followed him and asked him about that supplication, then he came and told the people: “Allāhumma bi `ilmikal-ghaiba wa qudratika ‘alal-khalqi aḥyinī mā `alimtal-ḥayāta khairan lī, wa tawaffanī idhā `alimtal-wafāta khairan lī. Allāhumma wa ‘as’aluka khashyataka fil-ghaibi wash-shahādati wa ‘as’aluka kalimatal-ḥaqqi fir-riḍā’i wal ghaḍab, wa as’alukal-qaṣda fil faqri wal-ghina, wa ‘as’aluka na`īman lā yanfadu wa ‘as’aluka qurrata `ainin lā tanqaṭi`u wa as’alukar-riḍā’i ba`dal-qaḍā’i wa ‘as’aluka bardal `aishi ba`dal-mawti, wa ‘as’aluka ladhdhatan-naẓari ilā wajhika wash-shawqa ilā liqā’ika fī ghairi ḍarrā’a muḍirratin wa lā fitnatin muḍillatin, Allāhumma zayyinnā bizīnatil-īmāni waj`alna hudātan muhtadīn (O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that living is good for me and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. O Allah, cause me to fear You in secret and in public. I ask You to make me true in speech in times of pleasure and of anger. I ask You to make me moderate in times of wealth and poverty. And I ask You for everlasting delight and joy that will never cease. I ask You to make me pleased with that which You have decreed and for an easy life after death. I askYou for the sweetness of looking upon Your face and a longing to meet You in a manner that does not entail a calamity that will bring about harm or a trial that will cause deviation. O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith and make us among those who guide and are rightly guided.”

“Abdullah bin Az-Zubair used to recite the tahlil following every prayer, saying: ‘La Ilaha Illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir, la hawla wala quwwata illa billahil-‘azim; la ilaha ill-Allahu wa la nabbed illa iyyah, ahlan-ni’mati wal-fadli wath-thana’il-has an; la ilaha ill-Allah, mukhlisina lahud-dina wa law karihal-kafirun (There is none worthy of worship except Allah (SWT) alone, with no partner or associate. His is the Dominion, to Him be all praise, and He is able to do all things; there is no power and no strength except with Allah (SWT) the Almighty. There is none worthy of worship except Allah (SWT), and we worship none but Him, the source of blessing and kindness and the One Who is deserving of all good praise. There is none worthy of worship except Allah (SWT), and we are sincere in faith and devotion to Him even though the disbelievers detest it. ) Then Ibn Az-Zubair said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite the tahlil in this manner following every prayer.'”

He said to ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar: “We find (mention of) prayer when one is at home (i.e., not traveling) and prayer at times of fear in the Qur’an, but we do not find any mention in the Qur’an of prayer when traveling. Ibn Umar said to him: ‘O son of my brother, Allah (SWT) send Muhammad (ﷺ) to us when we did not know anything, and all we should do is to do that which we saw Muhammad (ﷺ) doing.'”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was camping between Dajnan and ‘Usfan, besieging the idolaters. The idolaters said: ‘These people have a prayer that is dearer to them than their sons and daughters. Plan it, then strike them with a single heavy blow.’ Jibril, peace be upon him, came and told the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to divide his companions into two groups, then lead one group in prayer while the others faced the enemy, on guard and with weapons at the ready. So he led them in praying one rak’ah, then they moved back and the others moved forward, and he led them in praying on rak’ah, so that each one of them had prayed one rak’ah with the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) had prayed two rak’ahs.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led them in offering the fear prayer. One row stood in front of him and another row stood behind him. He led those who were behind in prayer, bowing once and prostrating twice, then they moved forward until they took the place of their companions, and the others came and took their place, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led them in prayer, bowing once and prostrating twice, then he said the taslim, so the Prophet (ﷺ) had prayed two rak’ahs and they had prayed one.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to take out an ‘Anazah (a short spear) on the day of Al-Fitr and the day of Al-Adha, plant it in the ground, and pray facing toward it.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to go out to the prayer place on the day of Al-Fitr and the day of Al-Adha and lead the people in prayer. When he sat during the second rak’ah and said the taslim, he stood up and turned to face the people while the people were sitting. If he needed to mention something concerning the dispatch of an army he would tell the people, otherwise he would enjoin the people to give charity. He said: “Give charity” three times, and among those who gave the most charity were the women.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever prays Qiyam during Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed in the masjid one night, and some people followed his prayer. Then he prayed the following night and more people came. Then they gathered on the third or fourth night and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not come out to them. When morning came he said: “I saw what you did, and nothing prevented me from coming out to you but the fact that I feared that this would be made obligatory for you,” and that was in Ramadan.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘May Allah (SWT) have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, then he wakes his wife and she prays, and if she refuses he sprinkles water in her face. And may Allah (SWT) have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays, then she wakes her husband and prays, and if he refuses she sprinkles water in his face.'”

“I said to ‘Aishah: ‘Which deed was most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?’ She said: ‘That which was done persistently.’ I said: ‘At what part of the night did he pray Qiyam?’ She said: ‘When he heard the rooster.'”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not pass away until most of his prayers were offered sitting down, except for the obligatory prayers, and the dearest of actions to him were those which were done persistently, even if they were few.”

“I asked Aishah: “How did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recite at night- did he recite loudly or silently?” She said: ‘He used to do both; sometimes he recited loudly and sometimes he recited silently.'”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray nine (rak’ahs) at night, then when he grew older and put on weight he prayed seven.”

” Ibn Shihab informed me, saying: ‘Ata bin Yazid narrated to me from Abu Ayyub: That the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Witr is a duty, and whoever wants to pray witr with seven (rak’ahs), let him do so; whoever wants to pray witr with five, let him do so, whoever wants to pray witr with three, let him do so; and whoever wants to pray witr with one, let him do so.'”

Ubayy bin Ka’b said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite in Witr: “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” and “Say: O you disbelievers!;’ and ‘Say: He is Allah, (the) One.’ And when he said the salam, he would say: Subhanal-Malikil-Quddus (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy) three times.”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, calls out the calls of the Jahiliyyah.”‘

“Abu Musa fell unconscious and they wept for him. He said: ‘I say to you the words of disavowal that the messenger of Allah said: He is not one of us who shaves his head (as a sign of mourning), rends his garments, or raises his voice in Lamentation.”‘

That they were sitting with the Messenger of Allah when a funeral appeared. The Messenger of Allah stood up, and those who were with him stood up, until it had passed by.

“I heard Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib say: The Messenger of Allah said: ‘whoever follows a Janazah until the prayer is offered, he will have one Qirat of reward and whoever walks with the funeral until (the body) is buried will have two Qirats of reward, and a Qirat is like Uhud.”‘

“The Messenger of Allah stood up and mentioned the trail with which a person will be tested in his grave. When he mentioned that the people became restless, which prevented me from understanding what the Messenger of Allah had said. When they settled down, I said to a man who was near me: ‘May Allah bless you, what did the end?’ he said: ‘It has been revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves with a trial close to that of the Dajjal.”‘

The Messenger of Allah used to teach them this supplication as he taught them surahs of the Quran: Allahumma inna na’udhu bika min ‘adhabil-qabri wa a’udhu bika min fitnatil-masihid-dajjal, wa a’udhu bika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat (O Allah, We seek refuge with You from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge with You from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the trail of Al-Masihid-Dajjal, and I seek refuge with You from the trails of life and death.)”

“During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; ‘O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O ‘Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to people who have turned into rotten corpses?’ He said: ‘You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer.'”

“Do not fast until you see the crescent, and do not stop fasting until you see it, and if it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then work it out.”

“D not fast until you see it , and do not stop fasting until you see it, and if it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then work it out.”

“The Messenger of Allah mentioned the crescent and said: ‘When you see it, fast and when you see it, stop fasting, and if it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then count thirty days.”‘

“Bilal calls the Adhan at night to awaken those of you who are asleep, and so that those who are praying Qiyam cam return. Dawn is not when the light appears like this” – and he gestured with his hand – “rather dawn is when it appears like this: – and he gestured with his two forefingers. ‘

“The Messenger of Allah used to join Shaban to Ramadan.” ‘

“The one who fasts while traveling is like one who does not fast while a resident.” (Daif)

“The one who fasts while traveling is like one who does not fast while a resident.’ (Daif)

“We were traveling in Ramadan and among us were some who were fasting and some who were not. Those who were fasting did not criticize those who were not, and those who were not fasting did not criticize those who were.”

“The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said: ‘He does not want to break his fast.’ And he used not to fast until we said: ‘He does not want to fast.”‘

“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, sometimes you fast, and you hardly ever break your hardly ever fast, except two days which, if you are fasting, you include them in your fast, and if you are not fasting, then you fast them on your own.’ He said: ‘Which two days?’ I said: ‘Monday and Thursday.’ He said: ‘Those are two days in which deeds are shown to the Lord of the worlds, and I like my deeds to be shown (to Him) when I am fasting.”‘

“The Messenger of Allah came out with a stick in his hand, and a man had hung up a bunch of dry and bad dates. He started hitting that bunch of dates and said: ‘I wish that the one who gave this Sadaqah had given something better than this, for the one who gave these dry, bad dates will eat dry, bad dates on the Day of Resurrection.”‘

“I heard the Messenger of Allah say: ‘Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, does not accept prayer without purification or charity from Ghulul.”

“Respond to the one who asks even with a sheep’s foot.” According to the narration of Harun: “With a sheep’s burned foot.”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Hajj al-Mabrur brings no reward other than Paradise, and from one ‘Umrah to another is expiation for what came in between.” (Shih)

“The wife of sinan bin Salamah Al-Juhani ordered that the question be put to the Messenger of Allah about her mother who had died and had not performed Hajj; would it be good enough if she were to perform Hajj on behalf of her mother? He said: ‘Yes. If her mother owed a debt and she paid it off, would that not be good enough? Let her perform Hajj on behalf of her mother.”’

“A man said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?’ He said: ‘Don’t you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?’ The man said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off).”‘

“I put perfume on the Messenger of Allah for his Ihram when he entered Ihram, and for his exiting Ihram when he had stoned Jamrat Al-Aqabah, before he circumambulated the House.”

“I said to ‘Aishah: ‘What kind of perfume did you put on the Messenger of Allah?’ she said: ‘The best kind of perfume, when he entered Ihram and when he exited Ihram.

“I used to put perfume on the Messenger of Allah when he entered Ihram, using the best perfume I could find.

“I used to put perfume on the Messenger of Allah using the best I could find, when he entered Ihram and when he exited Ihram, and when he wanted to visit the House.

a man fell from his mount and it trampled him. The Messenger of Allah said: “Wash him with water and lotus leaves, and he should be shrouded in two clothes, leaving his head and face bare, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection reciting the Talbiyah.”(sahih)

” A man died, and the Messenger of Allah said: wash him with water and lotus leaves, and shroud him in his cloths, but do not cover his head and face, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection reciting the Talbiyah.

That when the Prophet was in Dhul-Hulaifah he ordered that his Budn be marked on the right side of its hump, then he wiped the blood on it and he garlanded it with two shoes, then when it stood up with him Al-baida; he began the Talbiyah.

“I twisted those garlands from wool that we had, then the following morning he did what any non-Muhrim does with his wife, what any man does with his wife.”

“I twisted the garlands for the Budn of the Messenger of Allah, then he did not enter at state of Ihram or abandon any kind of regular clothing.”

That when they were present with the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, he sent the Hadi, and whoever wanted to enter Ihram did so, and whoever did not want to, did not.

That the Prophet drove a Hadi during his Hajj.

“we were with Talhah bin Ubaidullah and we were Ihram. A birth was given to him when he was asleep, and some of us at from it and others refrained. Talhah woke up and agreed with those who had eaten it, and said: ‘We ate it with Messenger of Allah.'”

That the Messenger of Allah was treated by means of cupping in the middle of his head, when he was in Ihram, in Lahi Jamal, on the road to Makkah.

the Prophet entered Makkah in the year of the Conquest wearing a helmet on his heard.

It was narrated from Jabir bin Abdulla that the Prophet entered on the day of the Conquest of Makkah wearing a back Imamah, without being in Ihram.

“I asked usamah bin Zaid, who rode behind the Messenger of Allah one the evening of Arafat. I said: “What did you do?’ He said: ‘We started traveling until we reached Al-Muzadalifah, then he stopped and prayed Maghrib. Then he sent word to the people to stay in their camps, and they did not unload their camels until the Messenger of Allah had prayed the later Isah. Then the people unloaded their camels and made camp. When morning came I set out on foot amonth those of the Quraish who got there first, and Al-Fadl rode behind the Prophet.'”

the Prophet sent his family ahead, and told them not to stone the Jamrah until the sun had risen. (Daif)

“The dowry, when the Messenger of Allah was among us, was ten Awaq.”

“Umar bin Al-Khattab said: ‘Do not go to extremes with regard to the dowries of women, for if that were a sign of honor and dignity in this world, or a sign of piety before Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, then Muhammad would have done that before you. But he did not give any of his wives, and none of his daughters were given, more than twelve Uqiyyah. A man may increase the dowry until he feels resentment against her and says: You cost me everything I own (‘Alaqul-Qirbah)'” “And I was a man born among the ‘Arabs, but I did not know the meaning of ‘Alaqul-Qirbah’ and others of you are saying -about those killed in this or that battle of yours, or who died: ‘So-and-so was martyred’ or ‘so and so died as a martyr.’ While perhaps he merely overloaded the backside of his beast, or lined his saddle with gold or silver seeking trade. So do not say that, rather say as the Prophet said: ‘Whoever is killed in the cause of Allah, or dies, then he is in Paradise.'”

“How much did you give her?” He said: “A Nawah (five Dirhams) of gold.” The Messenger of Allah said: “Give a Walimah (wedding feast) even if it is with one sheep.”

“O Messenger of Allah, she is lying; he is having intercourse with her, but she wants to go back to her first husband.” The Messenger of Allah said: “She cannot do that until she tastes his sweetness.”

“The Prophet gave his wives the choice and that was not a divorce.”

“A man from Banu Fazarah came to the Prophet and said: ‘My wife has given birth to a black boy’ -and he wanted to disown him. He said: ‘Do you have camels?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘What color are they?’ He said: ‘Red.’ He said: ‘Are there any gray ones among them?’ He said: ‘There are some gray camels among them.’ He said: ‘Why is that do you think?’ He said: ‘Perhaps it is hereditary.’ He said: ‘Perhaps this is hereditary.’ And he did not permit him to disown him.”

“A woman came to the Prophet and said: ‘My daughter’s husband has died, and I am worried about her eyes. Can I apply kohl to her?’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘One of you used to stay (in mourning) for a year. Rather (the mourning period is) four months and ten (days). And when that year had passed she would go out and fling a piece of dung behind her.'”

‘Why do I see you adorned? Perhaps you want to get married, but by Allah you will not get married until four months and ten days have passed.’ Subai’ah said: ‘When he said that to me, I put on my clothes in the evening and went to the Messenger of Allah and asked him about that. He ruled that it had become permissible for me to marry when I gave birth, and he told me to get married if I wanted to.'”

“I came to the Messenger of Allah with a group of the Ash’ari people and asked him to give us animals to ride. He said: ‘By Allah, I cannot give you anything to ride and I have nothing to give you to ride.’ We stayed as long as Allah willed, then some camels were brought to him. He ordered that we be given three fine-looking camels. When we left, we said to one another: ‘We came to the Messenger of Allah to ask him for animals to ride, and he swore by Allah that he would not give us anything to ride, then he gave us something.'” Abu Musa said: “We came to the Prophet and told him about that. He said: ‘I did not give you animals to ride, rather Allah gave you them to ride. By Allah, I do not swear an oath and then see something better than it, but I offer expiation for my oath and do that which is better.'”

“If any one of you swears an oath, then he sees something better than it, let him offer expiation for his oath, and look at what is better and do it.”

“The Messenger of Allah said to me: ‘If you swear an oath, then you see something that is better, do that which is better, and offer expiation for your oath.'”

“There is no vow and no oath concerning that which one does not possess, nor to commit sin, nor to sever the ties of kinship.”

“Whoever swears an oath and says: ‘If Allah wills’, then if he wishes he may go ahead, and if he wishes he may not, without having broken his oath.”

“Actions are but by intentions, and each person will have but that which he intended. Thus, he whose emigration was for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, his emigration was for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and he whose emigration was to achieve some worldly gain or to take some woman in marriage, his emigration was for that for which he emigrated.”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘There is no vow to commit an act of disobedience, and its expiation is the expiation for an oath.'”

“The Messenger of Allah came to a man who was being supported by two others and said: ‘What is the matter with him?’ It was said: ‘He vowed to walk to the Ka’bah.’ He said: ‘Allah does not benefit from his torturing himself.’ And he told him to ride.”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever swears an oath and says: “If Allah wills, then he has made an exception.”‘”

“Sulaiman said: ‘I will certainly go around to ninety women tonight, each of whom will bear a child who will fight in the cause of Allah.’ It was said to him: ‘Say: If Allah wills’ but he did not say it. He went around to them but none of them bore a child except for one woman who bore half a person.” The Messenger of Allah said: “If he had said: ‘If Allah wills,’ he would not have broken his vow, and this would have been a means to help him to get what he wanted.”

“Today the Messenger of Allah has forbidden something which was convenient for you, but following his command is an act of obedience (to Allah) and is good. He forbade Al-Haql.”

“We were with the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Do not kill him, for I have been commanded to fight the people until they say La ilaha illallah, and if they say it, their blood and their wealth are safe from me, except for a right that is due, and their reckoning will be with Allah.'”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The first matter concerning which judgment will be passed among the people will be bloodshed.'”

Some people raided the camels of the Messenger of Allah . He had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes gouged out.

“Whoever wields a weapon and starts to strike (the people) with it, it is permissible to shed his blood.”

“When ‘Ali was in Yemen, he sent some gold that was still enclosed in rock to the Prophet ) said: ‘Among the offspring of this man there will be people who will recite the Qur’an but it will not go beyond their throats, and they will go out of Islam as an arrow goes through the target. They will kill the Muslims and leave the idol-worshippers alone. If I live to see them, I will kill them as the killing of ‘Ad.'”

“I heard the Messenger of Allah say: ‘At the end of time there will appear young people with foolish minds. Their faith will not pass through their throats, and they will go out of Islam as an arrow goes through the target. If you meet them, then kill them, for killing them will bring reward to the one who killed them on the Day of Resurrection.'”

“I heard Abu Al-Ahwas (narrate) that ‘Abdullah said: ‘Defaming a Muslim is evildoing and fighting him is Kufr.'” So Aban said to him: “O Abu Ishaq! You heard it only from Abu Al-Ahwas?” He said: “Rather, I heard it from Al-Aswad and Hubairah.”

“Defaming a Muslim is evildoing and fighting him is Kufr.” (Sahih Mawquf)

“I came to the Messenger of Allah with my father Umayyah on the Day of the Conquest (of Makkah) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, accept my father’s pledge for emigration (Al-Hijrah).’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘I will accept his pledge to fight in Jihad, for the emigration (Al-Hijrah) has ceased.”‘

“O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an action that I may do and persist in it.” The Messenger of Allah said to him: “You should emigrate, for there is nothing like it.”

“A sheep of ours died, and we tanned its skin, and continued to make Nabidh in it until it wore out.”

“Al-Miqdam bi8n Ma di Karib came to visit Mu awiyah and said to him: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the messenger of Allah forbade wearing the Hides of predators and riding on them? He said: ‘yes.”

“It reached ‘Umar that Samurah had sold some wine, and he said: ‘May Allah ruin Samurah! Does he not know that the Messenger of Allah said: May Allah curse the Jews, for animal fat was forbidden to them, but they rendered it.’ Sufyan (one of the narrators) said: “Meaning: They melted it down.”

the Prophet forbade the price of cats and dogs, except hunting. (Da if) Abu Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa I) said: The Hadith of Hajjaj from Hammad bin Salamah is not authentic:

the Messenger of Allah used to sacrifice two rams. And Anas said: “And I sacrifice two rams.”

“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I release my dog and I catch the game, but I cannot find anything to slaughter it with, so I slaughter it with a Marwah or a stick,; He said: ‘Shed the blood with whatever you wish, and say the name of Allah.”‘

“A man form among the Ansar had a she-camel which used to graze in front of Uhud. Something happened to it, and he slaughtered it with a stake,”- (Ayyub, one of the narrators, said) I said to Zaid:’ A stake of wood or of iron?” He said “No of wood.”- “Then he went to the Prophet and asked him, and he told him to eat it.” (Sahih )

‘The Messenger of Allah forbade using animals as targets;’

“I heard the Messenger of Allah say: “That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain, and between them are matters which are not as clear. I will strike a parable for you about that: indeed Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has established a sanctuary, and the sanctuary of Allah is that which He has forbidden. Whoever approaches the sanctuary is bound to transgress upon it, Or he said: ‘Whoever grazes around the sanctuary will soon transgress upon it, and whoever indulges in matters that are not clear, he will soon transgress beyond the limits,””

“The Messenger of Allah forbade two transactions in one.”

“Go back to your masters, and if they agree to let me pay off your contract of manumission, and let your loyalty be to me, then I will do it” Barirah told her masters about that, but they refused and said: “If she wants to seek reward (with Allah) by freeing you, let her do so, but your loyalty will be to us.” She told the Messenger of Allah about that , and the Messenger of Allah said to her; “Buy her and set her free, and loyalty belongs to the one who set the slave free,” Then the Messenger of Allah said: “What is the matter with people who stipulate conditions that are not in the Book of Allah? Whoever stipulates something that is not in the Book of Allah, it is not valid even if he stipulates one hundred conditions? The condition of Allah is more deserving of being followed and is more hinting.”

“If a person becomes bankrupt, then a man finds the goods that he sold to him with him, he has more right to them than anyone else.”

he heard Tawus narrate from Ibn ‘Abbas, from ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that he asked about the ruling of the Messenger of Allah concerning that. Hamal bin Malik stood up and said: “I was married to two women, and one of them struck the other with a tent pole and killed her and her fetus. The Prophet ruled that a slave be given (as Diyah) for her fetus and that she be killed (for killing the other woman).”

“The Mukatab is free to the extent that the has paid off (toward buying his freedom); he Hadd punishment should be carried out on him proportionate to the amount he has paid off (toward buying his freedom); and he inherits proportionate to the amount he has paid off (toward buying his freedom).”

a Mukatab was killed at the time of the Messenger of Allah and he commanded that the Diyah be paid (equivalent) to the Diyah for a free man, (proportionate to the amount he had paid off towards buying his freedom).

a woman threw some pebbles and stuck another woman, and she miscarried. The Messenger of Allah stipulated (a Diyah of ) fifty sheep for her child. And on that day, he forbade throwing pebbles.

a woman threw pebbles at another woman and the woman who was struck miscarried. The matter was referred to the prophet and he set the blood money for her child at five hundred sheep. And on that day, he forbade throwing pebbles. (Sahih) Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa’i) said: This is an error, and it must be that the intent was one hundred camels. And the prohibition of throwing pebbles has been related from ‘Abdullah bin Buraidah, from ‘Abdullah bin Mughaffal.

“Do not throw pebbles, for the Prophet of Allah forbade throwing pebbles,” or “he disliked the throwing of pebbles.” Kahmas (one of the narrators) was not sure.

“The Messenger of Allah ruled that a slave (should be given as Diyah) for a fetus.” Tawus said: “A horse would do in place of a slave.”

the Messenger of Allah wrote a letter to the people of Yemen, included in which were the rules of inheritance, the sunan and the (rules concerning) blood money. He sent it with ‘Arm bin Hazm and it was read to the people of Yemen, Its contents were as follows: “From Muhammad the Prophet to Shurahbil bin ‘Abd Kulal, Nu’aim bin ‘Abd Kulal, Al-Harith bin’ Abd Kulal, Qail dhil-Ru’ain, Mu’afir and Hamdan. To precede” – And in this letter it said that whoevewrkills a believer for no just reason is to be killed in return, unless the heirs of the victim agree to pardon him. For killing a person, the Diyah is one hundred camels. For the nose, if it is cut off completely, diyah must be paid, for the tongue, diyah must be paid; for the lips, Diyah must be paid; for the testicles, Diyah must be paid; for the ends, Diyah must be paid; for the backbone, Dynamist be paid; for the eyes, Diyah must be paid; for one leg, half the Diyah must be paid; for a blow to the head that reaches the brain, one-third of thediyah must be paid; for a stab wound that penetrates deeply into the body, one-third of the diyah must be paid; for a blow that breaks the bone, fifteen camels must be given; for every digit of the hands or feet, ten camels must be given; for a tooth five camels must be given; for an injury that exposes the bone, five camels must be given. A man may be killed in return for (killing) a woman and those who deal in gold must pay one thousand dinars. (Daif)

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The hand (of the thief) is not to be cut off except for one-quarter of a Dinar.”‘

“The hand (of the thief) is not to be cut off for a shield.”

The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The hand of the thief is not to be cut off for anything less than a shield.”‘ It was said to ‘Aishah: ‘What is the price of a shield?” She said: “One-quarter of a Dinar.”

“The hand of a thief is not to be cut off except for one-quarter of a Dinar or more.”

“I heard ‘Uthman bin Abi AL-Walid, the freed slave of the Akhnasiyin, say: ‘I heard ‘Urwah bin Az-Zubair say;’Aishah used to narrated that the Prophet said: “The hand (of the htief) should notbe cut off for anything but a shield or its equivalent in value.”‘

“I heard ‘Urwah bin Az-Zubair say: “Aishah used to narrate that he Prophet of Allah said: The hand (of the thief) should not be cut off except for a shield or its equivalent in value. And he said that ‘Urwah said: A shield is (worth) four Dirhams. And he (the narrator) said: I heard sulaiman bin Yasar say that he heard ‘Amrah say: I heard ‘Aishah narrate that she heard the Messenger of Allah say: The hand (of the thief) should not be cut off except for four Dinars or more.”

“Five (fingers i.e., the hand) should not be cut off except for five.” Hammam said: “I met ‘Abdullah Ad-Danaj and he narrated to me that Sulaiman bin Yasar said: “Five should not be cut off except for five.” (Sahih Maqtu)

“A thief was brought to the Messenger of Allah and he said: ‘Kill him.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.’ He said: ‘Cut off (his hand).’ So his hand was cut off. Then he was brought a second time and he said: ‘Kill him.’ They said; ‘O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.’ He said: ‘Cut off (his foot).’ So his foot was cut off. He was brought to him a third time and he said: ‘Kill him.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, he only stole. He said: ‘Cut off (his other hand).’ Then he was brought to him a fourth time and he said: Kill him.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.’ He said: ‘Cut off (his other foot).’ He was brought to him a fifth time and he said: “So we took him to an animal pen and attacked him. He lay down on his back then waved his arms and legs (in the air), and the camels ran away. Then they attacked him a second time and he did the same thing, then they attacked him a third time, and we threw stones at him and killed him, then we threw him into a well and threw stones on top of him.” (Hasan) Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said: This Hadith is Munkar, Musab bin Thabit is not strong in Hadith.

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘None of you has believed until I am dearer to him than his family, his wealth and all the people.'”

“I heard a woman asking ‘Aishah about dyeing the hair with Henna. She said: ‘There is nothing wrong with it, but I do not like to do it because my beloved- meaning the Prophet – disliked its smell.'”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘If a woman has perfumed herself with incense, let her not attend ‘Isha’ prayer.'”

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘If one of you wants to attend ‘Isha’ prayer, let her not touch perfume.'”

“The Messenger of Allah forbade me (from wearing) garments dyed with safflower, and from gold rings, and from wearing Al-Qassi, and that I recite Qur’an while I am bowing.”

“I saw Ibn ‘Umar dyeing his beard yellow and I asked him about that. ‘He said: “I saw the Prophet dye his beard yellow.”

“The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection will be those who try to match the creation of Allah.”

“The Messenger of Allah used to say: ‘Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min ‘adhabil-qabri, wa fitnatin-nar, wa fitnatil-qabr, wa ‘adhabil-qabr, wa sharri fitnati masihid-dajjali wa sharri fitnatil-ghana’, wa sharri fitnatil-faqri. Allahummaghsil khatayaya kama naqqaitath-thawbal-abyada minad-danas. Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-kasali walharami wal-maghrami wal-ma’tham (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the torment of the grave, the tribulation of the Fire, the tribulation of the grave and the torment of the grave, the evil of the tribulation of Masihid-Dajjal, the evil of the tribulation of richness and the evil of the tribulation of poverty. O Allah, wash away my sins with water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart of sin as a white garment is cleansed of filth. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness, old age, debt and sin.)'”

The Prophet said: “Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of Allah, seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave, seek refuge with Allah from the trials of life and death, and seek refuge with Allah from the tribulation of Al-Masihid-Dajjal.”

“The Prophet used to say: ‘Allahumma (O Allah,)’ and he mentioned the supplication, and said at the end, ‘A’udhu bika an ughtala min tahti (and I seek refuge with You from being swallowed up from beneath me.)'”

“The Messenger of Allah forbade soaking (fruits) in earthenware jars.”

“The Messenger of Allah forbade the delegation of ‘Abdul-Qais, when they came to him, Ad-Dubba’, An-Naqir, Al-Muzaffat, and large water-skins that are cut from the top and can no longer be closed. He said: ‘Make Nabidh in your water-skins, and close them and drink it sweet.’ One of them said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, give me permission concerning something like this. He said: ‘If you make it like this,’ and he gestured with his hand, showing him how.”

The Messenger of Allah said: “If he becomes drunk, whip him; then if he becomes drunk, whip him; then if he becomes drunk, whip him.” Then he said concerning the fourth time, “Strike his neck (i.e., kill him).”

“I asked Ibn ‘Abbas: ‘I have a small jar in which I make Nabidh and when it has bubbled and settled down again, I drink it.’ He said: ‘For how long you have been drinking that?’ He said: ‘For twenty years'” – or he said: ‘for forty years.’ He said: ‘For a long time you have been quenching your thirst with something forbidden.'”

‘Umar bin Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “If you fear that Nabidh may be too strong, then weaken it with water.” ‘Abdullah (one of the narrators) said: “Before it gets strong.”

Masruq said on the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Abdullah (ibn Mas’ud ) was asked about a man who had married a woman without cohabiting with her or fixing any dower for her till he died. Ibn Mas’ud said: She should receive the full dower (as given to women of her class), observe the waiting period (‘Iddah), and have her share of inheritance. Thereupon Ma’qil ibn Sinan said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) giving the same decision regarding Birwa’ daughter of Washiq (as the decision you have given).

A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Ibn ‘Abbas through a different chain of narrators.

If one of you marries a woman or buys a slave, he should say: “O Allah, I ask You for the good in her, and in the disposition You have given her; I take refuge in You from the evil in her, and in the disposition You have given her.” When he buys a camel, he should take hold of the top of its hump and say the same kind of thing. Abu Dawud said: Abu Sa’id added the following words in his version: He should then tale hold of her forelock and pray for blessing in the case of a woman or a slave.

A’ishah said “The Prophet (ﷺ) gave her choice. Her husband was a slave.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about a man who divorced his wife three times, and she married another who entered upon her, but divorced her before having intercourse with her, whether she was lawful for the former husband. She said: The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: She is not lawful for the first (husband) until she tastes the honey of the other husband and he tastes her honey.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to count the days in Sha’ban in a manner he did not count any other month; then he fasted when he sighted the new moon of Ramadan; but if the weather was cloudy he counted thirty days and then fasted.

Husayn ibn al-Harith al-Jadli from the tribe of Jadilah Qays said: The governor of Mecca delivered a speech and said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took a pledge from us that we should perform the rites of hajj after sighting the moon. If we do not sight it and two reliable persons bear witness, we should perform the rites of hajj on the basis of their witness. I then asked al-Husayn ibn al-Harith: Who was the governor of Mecca? He replied: I do not know. He then met me later on and told me: He was al-Harith ibn Hatib, brother of Muhammad ibn Hatib. The governor then said: There is among you a man who is more acquainted with Allah and His Apostle than I. He witnessed this from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He then pointed with his hand to a man. Al-Husayn said: I asked an old man beside me: Who is that man to whom the governor has alluded? He said: “This is Abdullah ibn Umar, and he spoke the truth. He was more acquainted with Allah than he. He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said: For this is what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us (to do).

I said: Messenger of Allah. I am a master of mounts and I use them ! I myself travel on them and I rent them. This month, that is, Ramadan, happend to come to me (while I am on a journey), and I find myself strong enough (to fast) as I am young, and I find that it is easier for me to fast than to postpone it, and i becomes debt due from me. Does it bring me more reward, Messenger of Allah, if I fast, or if I break ? He replied: Whichever you like, Hamzah.

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Migration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises in the west.

Nafi said that a horse of Ibn ‘Umar went away and the enemy seized it. The Muslims overpowered them. Khalid bin Walid returned it to him after the Prophet (ﷺ).

Ibn ‘Abbas said “Umm Hani daughter of Abu Talib told me that in the year of the conquest she gave protection to a man from the polytheists. She came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and mentioned it to him. He said “We have given security to those to whom you have given it.”

On the authority of his father: We were with a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) called Mujashi’ who belonged to Banu Sulaim. There was a scarcity if goats (in those days). He commanded a man to announce (among the people); so he announced that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: A lamb may be given as full payent for that for which has full-grown animal is payment. Abu Dawud said: His name is Mujashi’ b. Mas’ud.

The Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) ordered to kill dogs, and we were even killing a dog which a woman brought with her from the desert. Afterwards he forbade to kill them, saying: Confine yourselves to the type which is black.

‘Aishah, mother of believers (ra), intended to buy a slave-girl to set her free. Her people said: We shall sell her to you on one condition that we shall inherit from her. ‘Aishah mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He said: That should not prevent you, for the right of inheritance belongs to the one who has set a person free.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The amir (ruler) who is over the people is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock; a man is a shepherd in charge of the inhabitants of his household and he is responsible for his flock; a woman is a shepherdess in charge of her husband’s house and children and she is responsible for them; and a man’s slave is a shepherd in charge of his master’s property and he is responsible for it. So each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.

We alighted with the Prophet (ﷺ) at Khaybar, and he had his companions with him. The chief of Khaybar was a defiant and abominable man. He came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Is it proper for you, Muhammad, that you slaughter our donkeys, eat our fruit, and beat our women? The Prophet (ﷺ) became angry and said: Ibn Awf, ride your horse, and call loudly: Beware, Paradise is lawful only for a believer, and that they (the people) should gather for prayer. They gathered and the Prophet (ﷺ) led them in prayer, stood up and said: Does any of you, while reclining on his couch, imagine that Allah has prohibited only that which is to be found in this Qur’an? By Allah, I have preached, commanded and prohibited various matters as numerous as that which is found in the Qur’an, or more numerous. Allah has not permitted you to enter the houses of the people of the Book without permission, or beat their women, or eat their fruits when they give you that which is imposed on them.

This tradition has been narrated by Mansur from al-Hakkam as narrated by Shu’bah.

That her father said: I had a complaint at Mecca. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to pay a sick-visit to me. He put his hand on my forehead, wiped my chest and belly, and then said: O Allah! heal up Sa’d and complete his immigration.

The Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: No one of you should wish for death. He then mentioned the rest of the tradition in a similar manner.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: The dead is punished because of his family’s weeping for him. When this was mentioned to ‘Aishah, she said: Ibn ‘Umar forgot and made a mistake. The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by grave and he said: The man in the grave is being punished while his family is weeping for him. She then recited: “No bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another.” The narrator Abu Mu’awiyyah said: (The Prophet passed) by the grave of a Jew.

“in two garments”.

The Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: I swear by Allah, I shall fight against the Quraish. The then said: If Allah wills. He again said: I swear by Allah, I shall fight against the Quraish if Allah wills. He again said: I swear by Allah, I shall fight against the Quraish. He then kept silence. Then he said: If Allah wills. Abu Dawud said: Al-Walid b. Muslim said on the authority of Sharik: He then said: But he did not fight against them.

AbuRafi’ came to us from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade us from a work which benefited us; but obedience to Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ) is more beneficial to us. He forbade that one of us cultivates land except the one which he owns or the land which a man lends him (to cultivate).

reported the Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: There are people from the servants of Allah who are neither prophets nor martyrs; the prophets and martyrs will envy them on the Day of Resurrection for their rank from Allah, the Most High. They (the people) asked: Tell us, Messenger of Allah, who are they? He replied: They are people who love one another for the spirit of Allah (i.e. the Qur’an), without having any mutual kinship and giving property to one. I swear by Allah, their faces will glow and they will be (sitting) in (pulpits of) light. They will have no fear (on the Day) when the people will have fear, and they will not grieve when the people will grieve. He then recited the following Qur’anic verse: “Behold! Verily for the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: I forbade you three things, and now I command (permit) you for them. I forbade you to visit graves, now you may visit them, for in visiting them there is admonition. I forbade you drinks except from skin vessels, but now you may drink from any kind of vessels, but do not drink an intoxicant. I forbade you to eat the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, but now you may eat and enjoy it during your journeys.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Hospitality extend for three days, and what goes beyond that is sadaqah (charity).

On the day of Khaibar the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) forbade us to eat the flesh of domestic asses, and ordered us to eat horse-flesh. ‘Amr said: I informed Abu al-Sha’tha’ about this tradition. He said: Al-Hakam al-Ghifari among us said this, and the” ocean” denied that, intending thereby Ibn’ Abbas.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade to enter the hot baths. He then permitted men to enter them in lower garments.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the woman who adds some false hair and the woman who asks for it, the woman who tattoos and the woman who asks for it.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone wants to put a ring of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold ring on him: if anyone wants to put a necklace of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold necklace on him, and if anyone wants to put a bracelet of fire on one he loves let him put a gold bracelet on him. Keep to silver and amuse yourselves with it.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah has protected you from three things: that your Prophet should not invoke a curse on you and should all perish, that those who follow what is false should not prevail over those who follow the truth, and that you should not all agree in an error.

The verse “If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein for ever” was revealed six months after the verse “And those who invoke not with Allah any other god, nor slay such life as Allah has made sacred, except for just cause in Surat al-Furqan.

This is his recompense. If Allah wishes to disregard him, He may do do.

The Euphrates is soon to uncover a treasure of gold, but those who are present must not take any of it.

“Apponting a way in the verse (iv.15) means prescribed punishment. Sufiyan said: “Punish them “refers to unmarried, and “confine them to houses” refers to the women who are married.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Blood-wit for every wound which lays bare a bone is five camels.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The Caliphate of Prophecy will last thirty years; then Allah will give the Kingdom of His Kingdom to anyone He wills. Sa’id told that Safinah said to him: Calculate Abu Bakr’s caliphate as two years, ‘Umar’s as ten, ‘Uthman’s as twelve and ‘Ali so and so. Sa’id said: I said to Safinah: They conceive that ‘Ali was not a caliph. He replied: The buttocks of Marwan told a lie.

Every people have Magians, and the Magians of this community are those who declare that there is no destination by Allah. If any one of them dies, do not attend his funeral, and if any one of them is ill, do not pay a sick visit to him. They are the partisans of the Antichrist (Dajjal), and Allah will surely join them with the Antichrist.

I thought in my mind that my affair was far inferior to the speaking of Allah about me with a command that will be recited.

The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a man of the Ansar when he was giving his brother a warning against modesty. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) said : Leave him alone, for modesty is a part of faith.

The she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called al-Adba’ had not been outstripped by another, but an A`rabi (a nomadic Arab) came on a young riding camel of his and it outstripped it. That distressed the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), but he said: It is Allah’s right that nothing should become exalted in the world but he lowers it.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: It is not allowable for a believer to keep from a believer for more than three days. If three days pass, he should meet him and give him a salutation, and if he replies to it they will both have shared in the reward; but if he does not reply he will bear his sin (according to Ahmad’s version) and the one who gives the salutation will have come forth from the sin of keeping apart.

The Prophet (ﷺ) asked: What is your name? He replied: Hazn (rugged). He said: You are Sahl (smooth). He said: No, smooth is trodden upon and disgraced. Sa’id said: I then thought that ruggedness would remain among us after it. AbuDawud said: The Prophet (ﷺ) changed the names al-‘As, Aziz, Atalah, Shaytan, al-Hakam, Ghurab, Hubab, and Shihab and called him Hisham. He changed the name Harb (war) and called him Silm (peace). He changed the name al-Munba’ith (one who lies) and called him al-Mudtaji’ (one who stands up). He changed the name of a land Afrah (barren) and called it Khadrah (green). He changed the name Shi’b ad-Dalalah (the mountain path of a stray), the name of a mountain path and called it Shi’b al-Huda (mountain path of guidance). He changed the name Banu az-Zinyah (children of fornication) and called them Banu ar-Rushdah (children of those who are on the right path), and changed the name Banu Mughwiyah (children of a woman who allures and goes astray), and called them Banu Rushdah (children of a woman who is on the right path). AbuDawud said: I omitted the chains of these for the sake of brevity.

None of you must say Khabuthat nafsi (My heart is heaving), but one should say Laqisat nafsi (My heart is being annoyed).

When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sneezed, he placed his hand or a garment on his mouth, and lessened the noise. The transmitter Yahya is doubtful about the exact words khafada or ghadda (lessened).

There are five qualities which a Muslim should display to his brother : return of salutation, response to the one who sneezes, acceptance of the invitation, paying sick visit to a patient, and accompanying the funeral.

Some relative of Umm Salamah said: The bed of the Prophet (ﷺ) was set as a man is laid in his grave; the mosque was towards his head.

The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) said to me: When you go to your bed, perform ablution like the ablution for prayer, and then lie on your right side and say: O Allah I have handed over my face to thee, entrusted my affairs to thee, and committed my back to thee out of desire for and fear to thee. There is no refuge and no place of safety from thee except by having recource to thee. I believe in Thy Book which Thou hast sent down and in Thy prophet whom thou hast sent down. He said : If you die (that night), you would die in the true religion, and utter these words in the last of that you utter (other prayers). Al-Bara said : I said: I memorise them, and then I repeated, saying “and in Thy Apostle whom Thou hast sent”. He said : No, say : “and in Thy Prophet whom Thou hast sent.

When the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) saw the new moon, he said: “a new moon of good and right guidance; a new moon of good and right guidance; a new moon of good and right guidance. I believe in Him Who created you” three times. He would then say: “Praise be to Allah Who has made such and such a month to pass and has brought such and such a month.”

AbuZumayl said: I asked Ibn Abbas, saying: What is that I find in my breast? He asked: What is it? I replied: I swear by Allah, I cannot speak about it. He asked me: Is it something doubtful? and he laughed. He then said: No one could escape that, until Allah, the exalted, revealed: “If thou went in doubt as to what we have revealed unto thee, and ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee.” He said: If you find something in your heart, say: He is the first and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent, and He has full knowledge of all things.

Make intercession, you will be rewarded, for I purposely delay a matter so that you intercede and then you are rewarded. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If you make intercession, you will be rewarded.

A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Abu Musa from the prophet (May peace be upon him) through a different chain of narrators.

when I was beating a servant of mine, I heard a voice behind me saying: know, Abu Mas’ud-Ibn al-Muthanna said: “twice”-that Allah has more power over you than you have over him. I turned round and saw that it was that it was the prophet (May peace be upon him). I said : Messenger of Allah! He is free for Allah’s sake. He said : If you had not done it, fire would have burned you or the fire would have touched you.

A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Talhah b. Musarrif from a man from Sa’d from the prophet (May peace be upon him) through a different chain of narrators.

Safwan ibn Umayyah sent him with some milk, a young gazelle and some small cucumbers to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he was in the upper part of Mecca. I entered but I did not give a salutation. He said: Go back and say: “Peace be upon you”! This happened after Safwan ibn Umayyah and embraced Islam. Amr said: Ibn Safwan told me all this on the authority of Kaladah ibn Hanbal, and he did not say: I heard it from him. Abu Dawud said: Yahya b. Habib said: Umayyah b. Safwan. He did not say: I heard from Kaladah b. Hanbal. Yahya also said: ‘Amr b. ‘Abd Allah b. Safwan told him that Kaladah b. al-Hanbal told him.

A man of Banu Amir told that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ) for permission (to enter the house) when he was in the house, saying: May I enter ? The Prophet (ﷺ) said to his servant: Go out to this (man) and teach him how to ask permission to enter the house, and say to him: “Say : Peace be upon you. May I enter?” The man heard it and said: Peace be upon you! May I enter ? The Prophet (ﷺ) permitted him and he entered.

Allah’s Messenger said: “When you perform Wudu then sniff water in the nose and blow it out, and when you use small stones (to remove filth) then make it odd (numbered).”

“When I would menstruate, Allah’s Messenger ordered me to wear a waist wrap, then he would fondle me.”

“I head more than one of the Companions of the Prophet; Umar bin Al-Khattab among, and he was one of the most beloved among them to me – (narrating) that Allah’s Messenger prohibited the Salat after Fajr until the sun had risen, and the Salat after Asr until the sun had set.”

“It used to be said that the people with the worst punishment are two: A woman who disobeyed her husband, and a people’s Imam whom they dislike.”

“When Allah’s Messenger descending the Minbar he would face our direction.”

“Allah’s Messenger would order the virgins, the mature women, the secluded and the menstruating to go out for the two Eid. As for the menstruating women, they were to stay away from the Musalla and participate in the Muslims supplications.” One of them said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! What if she does not have a Jilbab? He said: ‘Then let her sis lend her a Jilbab.'”

the Messenger of Allah said: “When you are in Salat then do not spit on your right, but behind you or toward your left, or under your left foot.”

the Messenger of Allah said: “When a woman gives from her husband’s home, with a good heart, not to spoil it, then she will get a reward similar to his, for her is the good she intended – and the same is for the trustee.”

“I did not see the Prophet fasting two consecutive months except for Sha’ban and Ramadan.”

“The Messenger of Allah would fast Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays in one months, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the next month.”

The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever performs Hajj for Allah, and he does not have sexual relations nor commit any sin, then his previous sins will be forgiven.”

“I twisted the garlands for the Hadi of the Prophet, then he did not assume Ihram, nor did he avoid any clothing.”

Ibn Umar was asked: In which month did the Messenger of Allah perform Umrah? He said: ‘During Rajab.’ So Aishah said: ‘The Messenger of Allah did not perform Umrah except that he was with him – meaning Ibn Umar – and he did not ever perform Umrah in the month of Rajab.'”

The Messenger of Alllah said: “(Real) Patience is at the first stroke of the calamity.”

Amrah informed him that she heard Aishah, while it was being mentioned to her that Ibn Umar had said that the deceased would be punished for the crying of the living (over him). So Aishah said: ‘May Allah forgive Abu Abdur-Rahman. He has not lied, but he is mistaken in the understanding. Rather, the Messenger of Allah passed by a Jewish woman who was being cried over, so he said: ‘They are crying over her and she is being punished in her grave.'”

“The morning after the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet came and sat on my bed as far from me as you are sitting now, and our little girls started beating the Duff and reciting verses mourning my father who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said: ‘Among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow.’ On that the Prophet said: ‘Stop saying this, and keep on saying what you were saying before.'”

“The Messenger of Allah returned his daughter Zainab to Abul-As bin Ar-Rabi with a new dowry and a new wedding.”

“Zaid, Abu Ayyash asked Sa’d regarding white wheat in exchange for barley: which of them was better ? He said the white, then he forbade that. Sa’d said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) being asked about selling dried dates for ripe dates and he said to those present: “Will the fresh dates shrink when they are dry ?” They said yes, so he forbade that.'”

] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih, and this is acted upon according to the people of knowledge. It is the view of Ash-Shafi’i and our companions.

That the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “They (the two) are not separate from a sale except in agreement. This Hadith is Gharib.

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed the first cases to be judged between the people are those of bloodshed.”

That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever drinks wine, then lash him. If he returns to it, then on the fourth time kill him.”

“I have been honored over the Prophets with six (things): I have been given Jawami’ Al-Kalam, I have been aided by (the ability to cause in the enemy) fright, the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, the Earth has been made as a Masjid and purifier for me, and I have been sent to all creatures, and with me Prophethood is sealed.”

That ‘Ali said: “Eating garlic is no good, except when cooked.” This chain of this Hadith is not strong. It has been reported as a saying of ‘Ali and it has been reported from Sharik bin Hanbal from the Prophet (ﷺ) in Mursal form. Muhammad said: “Al-Jarrah bin Malih (one of the narratos) is truthful, and Al-Jarrah bin Ad-Dahhak is Muqarib (average) in Hadith.

“Learn the laws of inheritance and the Quran, and teach the people, for I am a mortal.”

“‘Ali delivered a Khutbah for us in which he said: ‘Whoever claims that we have some book to read other than Allah’s Book and this paper, which include camel’s ages and things related to (relatiation for) wounds, then he has lied.” And he said in it: “Al-Madinah is sacred, what is between ‘Air to Thawr, so whoever introduces in it any innovation or shelters an innovator then upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will not accept his compulsory nor optional good deeds. And whoever claims someone else to be his father, or claims Wala’ for someone other than his Mawali, then upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and the people; his compulsory and optional good deeds shall not be accepted. The covenants of the Muslims are one, it covers the rest of them. This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. Some of them reported it similarly from Al-A’mash, from Ibrahim At-Taimi, from Al-Harith bin Suwaid from ‘Ali. .

“The Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) came out to us while we were discussing about Al-Qadar. He became angry such that his face became red, as if a pomegranate was bursting through his cheeks. He said: ‘Is this what I ordered you to do?’ – or: ‘Is this what I have been sent to you with? The people before you were only ruined when they differed about this matter. I order you to not debate about it.'”. (Daif))

” There were some people from(the tribe of) Rabiah with ‘Amr bin Al-‘As, so a man from(the tribe of) Bakr bin Wa’il said: “Either the Quraish will stop, or Allah will place this matter among the masses of the Arabs other than them.’ So ‘Amr bin Al-‘As said: ‘You have lied, I heard the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) saying: “The Quraish are the leaders of the people, in the good and the bad, until the Day of Judgement.”

“The night and the day shall not go away until a man called Jahjah among the Mawali reigns.”

“The Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) came out to us, we were made up of nine; five and four. The first of the numbers for the Arabs, and the latter for the non-Arabs. He said: ‘Listen, have you heard that after me there will leaders, whoever enters upon them and condones to their lies, and supports them in their oppression, then he is not from me and I am not from him, and he shall not drink with me from the Hawd. And whoever does not enter upon them, nor help them in their oppression, nor condones to their lies, then he is from me, and I am from him, and he shall drink with me at the Hawd.'”

“I was walking with Thabit Al-Bunani. He passed by some boys, so he said Salam to them. Then Thabit said: ‘I was with Anas when he passed by some boys and gave the Salam to them, and Anas said: I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) when he passed by some boys and he gave the Salam to them.'”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed through the Masjid one day, and a group of women were sitting, so he motioned his hand with the Salam – ‘Abdul-Hamid (one of the narrators) gestured with his hand.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent an expedition force ! Nothing prevented me from learning Surat Al-Baqarah except fearing that I would not be able to stand with (in voluntary night prayer).’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Learn the Qur’an to recite it, for indeed the parable of the Qur’an for the one who recites it and stands with it (in prayer) is that of a bag full of musk whose scent fills the air all around. And the parable of the one who learns it then sleeps while it is in his memory is that of a bag containing musk that is tied shut.'”

that Umm Salamah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would separate recitation reciting: ‘Al-Hamdulillahi Rabbil-‘Alamin’ then he would stop. ‘Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim’ then he would stop. And he would recite it: ‘Maliki Yawmid-Din.'”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever says (something) about the Qur’an without knowledge, then let him take his seat in the Fire.”

“During the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we would talk during Salat, so ‘And stand before Allah with obedience (2:238) was revealed, ordering us to be silent.” (Another chain) with similar wordings, but he added: “And we were forbidden from talking.”

“I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) when this Ayah was revealed to him: Whoever works evil will have the recompense of it (4:123). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘O Abu Bakr! Shall I recite to you an Ayah revealed to me?’ I said: ‘Of course O Messenger of Allah!’ So he recited it to me, and I do not know except that I found it as a fatal blow, but I repressed it. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘What is bothering you O Abu Bakr?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! May my father and my mother be your ransom! Which of us has not done evil – and yet we shall be recompensed for what we have done?’ So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘As for you O Abu Bakr, and the believers, they will be recompensed for that in the world until they meet Allah and they have no sins. As for the others, then that will be collected for them until they are recompensed for it on the Day of Judgement.'”

“O you people! You recite this Ayah: Take care of yourselves! If you follow the guidance no harm shall come to you from those who are astray (5:105). I indeed heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘When the people see the wrongdoer, and they do not stop him (from doing wrong), then it is soon that Allah shall envelope you in a punishment from Him.'”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed Allah Blessed and Most High gives respite (Yumli)” and perhaps he said: “(Yumhil)” respite to the wrong-doer until, when He seizes him, and he cannot escape.” Then he recited the Ayah: Such is the punishment of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong (11:102).

“Indeed in Paradise there is a tree under whose shade a rider can travel for one hundred years without stopping. Recite if you wish: And in shave extended. And water flowing constantly.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to lay his head upon his right hand when going to sleep, then say: “My Lord, safeguard me from Your punishment the Day You resurrect Your slaves (Rabbi qinī `adhābaka yawma tab`athu `ibādak).”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I met Ibrahim on the night of my ascent, so he said: ‘O Muhammad, recite Salam from me to your nation, and inform them that Paradise has pure soil and delicious water, and that it is a flat treeless plain, and that its seeds are: “Glory is to Allah (Subḥān Allāh) all praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillāh) and ‘none has the right to be worshipped but Allah’ (Lā ilāha illallāh), and Allah is the greatest (Allāhu Akbar).”

the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to those sitting with him: “Is one of you incapable of attaining a thousand good deeds?” So a questioner among those seated with him asked him: “How can one of us earn a thousand good deeds?” He said: “(When) one of you recites a hundred Tasbīḥāt a thousand good deeds are written for him, and a thousand evil deeds are wiped away from him.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever glorifies Allah a hundred times in the morning and a hundred in the night, he is like one who performs Hajj a hundred times. And whoever praises Allah a hundred times in the morning and a hundred in the night, he is like one who provides a hundred horses in the cause of Allah.” – or he said – “went out on a hundred military expeditions. And whoever pronounced At-Tahlil of Allah a hundred times in the night, he is like the one who freed a hundred slaves from the offspring of Isma`il, and whoever extols Allah’s greatness a hundred times in the day and a hundred in the night, none shall bring on that day, more than what he brought, except one who said similar to what he said, or increased upon it.”

“A Tasbihah in Ramadan is better than a thousand Tasbihah in other that it.”

“Call upon Allah while being certain of being answered, and know that Allah does not respond to a supplication from the heart of one heedless and occupied by play.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to us: ‘Hold fast to At-Tasbih, At-Tahlil, and At-Taqdis, and count them upon the fingertips, for indeed they shall be questioned, and they will be made to speak. And do not become heedless, so that you forget about the Mercy (of Allah).’”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “No one should convey to me anything regarding any of my Companions, for I love that I should go out to them while my breast is at peace.” ‘Abdullah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was brought some wealth, so the Prophet (ﷺ) distributed it. Then I came across two men that were sitting saying: ‘By Allah! Muhammad (ﷺ) did not intend the Face of Allah in his distribution, nor the abode of the Hereafter.’ So I spread this when I heard them, and I went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I informed him. So his face became red and he said: ‘Do not bother me with this, for indeed Musa was afflicted by more than this and he was patient.'”

“Whenever the Messenger of Allah entered the toilet, he would say: ‘A’udhu Billahi minal-khubthi wa’l-khaba’ith (I seek refuge with Allah from male and female devils).'”

“A man passed by the Prophet while he was urinating, and greeted him with the Salam, but he did not return the greeting. While he finished, he struck the ground with his palms and did dry ablution (Tayammum), then he returned the greeting.”

The Prophet granted a concession to travelers: “If a traveler performed ablution and put on leather socks, then he performed a fresh ablution, he could wipe over the leather socks for three days and nights; the resident could do so for one day and one night.”

The Messenger of Allah said: “the earth has been made for me a place of worship and a means of purification.”

“I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?” He said: “Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified,” or he said: “In that case you would have become purified.”

“At the time of the Messenger of Allah, women in postnatal bleeding (after childbirth) used to wait for forty days, and we used to put Wars on our faces because of freckles.”

The Messenger of Allah was thinking of a horn, and he commanded that a bell be made and it was done. Then ‘Abdullah bin Zaid had a dream. He said: “I saw a man wearing two green garments, carrying a bell. I said to him, ‘O slave of Allah, will you sell the bell?’ He said; ‘What will you do with it?’ I said, ‘I will call (the people) to prayer.’ He said, ‘Shall I not tell you of something better than that?’ I said, ‘What is it?’ he said, ‘Say: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya ‘alas-salah, Hayya ‘alas-salah; Hayya ‘alal-falah, Hayya ‘alal-falah; Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah (Allah is The Most Great, Allah is The Most Great; Allah is The Most Great, Allah is The Most Great; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah; Come to the Prayer, Come to the Prayer; Come to the prosperity, Come to the prosperity; Allah is the Most great, Allah is the Most Great; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).” ‘Abdullah bin Zaid went out and came to the Messenger of Allah, and told him what he had seen. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, I saw a man wearing two green garments carrying a bell,” and he told him the story. The Messenger of Allah said, “Your companion has had a dream. Go out with Bilal to the mosque and teach it to him, for he has a louder voice than you.” I (‘Abdullah) went out with Bilal to the mosque, and I started teaching him the words and he was calling them out. ‘Umar Al-Khattab heard the voice and came out saying, “O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I saw the same (dream) as him.” (Hasan)Abu ‘Ubaid said: “Abu Bakr Al-Hakami told me that ‘Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Ansari said concerning that: ‘I praise Allah, the Possessor of majesty and honor, A great deal of praise for the Adhan. Since the news of it came to me from Allah, So due to it, I was honored by the information. During the three nights. Each of which increased me in honor.'”

“The Messenger of Allah said to us: ‘Come with me.’ So we went to the house of ‘Aishah, where we ate and drank. Then the Messenger of Allah said to us: ‘If you want, you can sleep here, or if you want you can go out to the mosque.’ We said: ‘We will go out to the mosque.'”

“The Messenger of Allah saw some sputum in the prayer direction of the mosque, when he was praying in front of the people. He scratched it off, then when the prayer was over, he said: ‘When anyone of you is performing prayer, Allah is before him, so none of you should spit toward the front while praying.'”

“What did you hear from the Prophet (ﷺ) about a man when he is performing prayer?” He said: “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: ‘If anyone of you knew (how great is the sin involved) when he passed in front of his brother who is performing prayer, then waiting for forty’,” (one of the narrators) said: “I do not know if he meant forty years, forty months, or forty days, ‘would be better for him than that.”

“I stayed overnight with my maternal aunt Maimunah, and the Prophet (ﷺ) got up during the night to perform prayer. So I got up and stood on his left. He took me by the hand and made me stand on his right.”

“(Once) the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed Zuhr with five Rak’ah, and it was said to him: ‘Has something been added to the prayer?’ He said: ‘What is that?’ They told him, and he turned back towards the Qiblah and performed two prostrations.”

“The Satan comes to any one of you while he is praying and comes between him and his soul, until he does not know whether he as added something or omitted something. If that happens, then he should prostrate twice before the Salam, then he should say the Salam.”

“The Satan comes between the son of Adam and his soul, and he does not know how many Rak’ah he has prayed. If a person notices that, then let him prostrate twice before he says the Salam.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Allah listens more attentively to a man with a beautiful voice who recites Qur’an out loud than the master of a singing slave listens to his slave.’”

“Which of them had memorized more Qur’an?” And if one of them was pointed out to him, he would put him in the niche-grave first. And he said: “I am a witness over them.” He commanded that they should be buried with their blood, and that the funeral prayer should not be offered for them and they should not be washed.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Najashi has died.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions went out to Al-Baqi’, and we lined up in rows behind him, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went forward, then he said four Takbir.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Your brother Najashi has died, so offer the funeral prayer for him.” Then he stood and we prayed behind him. I was in the second row and two rows prayed for him.”

‘Whoever offers the funeral prayer will have one Qirat; and whoever attends until the burial is over, will have two Qirat. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad! The Qirat is greater than this (mountain of) Uhud.”

‘Wailing is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance, and if the woman who wails dies without having repented, Allah will cut a garment of pitch (tar) for her and a shirt of flaming fire.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The month is like that and like that and like that,’ and he showed nine fingers on the third time to indicate twenty-nine.”

“The people will remain upon goodness as long as they hasten to break their fast.”

“My father told me that ‘Imran bin Hussain was appointed to collect the Sadaqah. When he came back, it was said to him: ‘Where is the wealth?’ He said: ‘Was it for wealth that you sent me? We took it from where we used to take it at the time of the Messenger of Allah, and we distributed it where we used to distribute it.’ ”

‘The Prophet delivered a sermon then he made mention of women, and exhorted (the men) concerning them. Then he said: ‘How long will one of you whip his wife like a slave, then lie with her at the end of the day?’

the Messenger of Allah said: “There is a kind of protective jealousy that Allah loves and a kind that Allah hates. As for that which Allah loves, it is protective jealousy when there are grounds for suspicion. And as for that which He hates, it is protective jealousy when there are no grounds for suspicion.”

Hilal bin Umayyah accused his wife in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ) of (committing adultery) with Sharik bin Sahma’. The Prophet said: “Bring proof or you will feel the Hadd (punishment) on your back.” Hilal bin Umayyah said: “By the One Who sent you with the truth, I am telling the truth, and Allah will send down revelation concerning my situation which will spare my back.” Then the following was revealed: “And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e., testifies four times) by Allah that he is one of those who speak the truth. And the fifth (testimony should be) the invoking of the curse of Allah on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her). But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to death) from her, it she bears witness four times by Allah, that he (her husband) is telling a lie. And the fifth (testimony) should be that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he (her husband) speaks the truth.” The Prophet (ﷺ), turned and sent for them, and they came. Hilal bin Umayyah stood up and bore witness, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah knows that one of you is lying. Will either of you repent?” Then she stood up and affirmed her innocence. On the fifth time, meaning that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he (her husband) speaks the truth, they said to her: “It will invoke the wrath of Allah.” Ibn ‘Abbas said: “She hesitated and backed up, until we thought that she was going to recant. Then she said: ‘By Allah, I cannot dishonor my people for ever.’ Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Wait and see. If she gives birth to a child with black eyes, fleshy buttocks and big calves, then he is the son of Sharik bin Sahma’.’ And she gave birth to such a child. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Had it not the matter been settled by the Book of Allah, I would have punished her severely.’ “

“Measure your food, may you be blessed therein.”

“The Prophet used to give us dates from the collection (mixed) The Messenger of Allah said: ‘It is not right to give one Sa of dates for two Sa, nor one Dirham for two Dirham. A Dirham for a Dirham and a Dinar for a Dinar is allowed: the only difference between them is in weight (i.e., the weight must be equal.)’” Sahih

“I came saying. ‘Who will exchange Dirham?’ Talhah bin ‘Ubaidullah, who was with ‘Umar bin Khattab, said: ‘Show us your gold, then come to us; when our treasure comes, we will give you your silver.’ ‘Umar said: ‘No, by Allah, you will give him silver (now), or give him back his gold, for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Silver for gold is usury, unless it is exchanged on the spot.”‘

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade breaking the coins of the Muslims that are in circulation among them, without any necessary reason.”(1)

Ibn Muhayyisah Al-Ansari told him that a she-camel belonging to Bara used to wander free. It entered a garden belonging to some people and caused some damage. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was told of that, and he ruled that property was to be protected by its owners of livestock were responsible for any damage caused by their animals during the night.

the Prophet (ﷺ) allowed the testimony of a man along with the oath of the claimant.

“Whoever demands his rights let him do so in a decent manner as much as he can.”

“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) conquered Khaibar, he gave it (to its people) in return for half (of its yield).”

“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was returning from the campaign of Tabuk, and had drawn close to Al-Madinah, he said: ‘In Al-Madinah there are people who, as you traveled and crossed valleys, were with you.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, even though they are in Al-Madinah?’ He said: ‘Even though they were in Al-Madinah. They were kept behind by (legitimate) excuses.’”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the flag of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was black, and his standard was white.

‘Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) told him to seat ‘Aishah behind him on his riding animal, and perform ‘Umrah with her from Tan’im.

“The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, when I was eating: ‘Say the Name of Allah, the Glorified and Exalted.’”

I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) delivering a sermon, and Hasan and Husain came forward, wearing red shirts, stumbling and getting up again. The Prophet (ﷺ) stepped down, picked them up and put them in his lap. Then he said: “Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. ‘Your wealth and your children are only a trial.’ I saw these two and I could not be patient. Then he resumed his sermon.”

“a daughter of ‘Umar was Asiyah(disobedient) then the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) named her ‘Jamilah’ (beautiful).”

“I asked ‘Aishah about a supplication that the Messenger of Allah (saas) used to say. She said that he used to say: ‘Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min sharri ma ‘amiltu, wa min sharri ma lam a’mal (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of that which I have done and the evil of that which I have not done).'”

“La ilaha illallahul-Halimul-Karim, Subhan-Allahi Rabbil-‘Arshil-‘Azim, Subhan-Allahi Rabbil-samawatis-sab’i wa Rabbil-‘Arshil-Azim (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous; glory is to Allah the Lord of the Mighty Throne; glory is to Allah, the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Magnificent Throne).” Waki’ said with each wording La ilaha illallahu (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) is to be included.

“If anyone of you has a bad dream, he should not tell people about how Satan played with him in his dream.”

“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ), upon his return from Uhud, and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, in my dream I saw a cloud giving shade, from which drops of ghee and honey were falling, and I saw people collecting them in the palms of their hands, some gathering a lot and some a little. And I saw a rope reaching up into heaven, and I saw you take hold of it and rise with it. Then another man took hold of it after you rose with it, then another man took hold of it after him and rose with it. Then a man took hold of it after him and it broke, then it was reconnected and he rose with it.’ Abu Bakr said: ‘Let me interpret it, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘Interpret it.’ He said: ‘As for the cloud giving shade, it is Islam, and the drops of honey and ghee that fall from it (represent) the Qur’an with its sweetness and softness. As for the people collecting that in their palms, some learn a lot of the Qur’an and some learn a little. As for the rope reaching up into heaven, it is the truth that you are following; you took hold of it and rose with it, then another man till take hold of it after you and rise with you, then another, who will rise with it, then another, but it will break and then he reconnected, then he will rise with it.’ He said: ‘You have got some of it right and some of it wrong.’ Abu Bakr said: ‘I adjure you O Messenger of Allah, tell me what I got right and what I got wrong.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Do not swear, O Abu Bakr.”*

“Indeed, fear of people should not prevent a man from speaking the truth, if he knows it.” Then Abu Sa’eed wept and said: “By Allah, we have seen things that made us scared (and we did not speak up).”

“I heard ‘Umar bin Khattab say: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) writhing with hunger during the day, and he could not even find the worst of dates with which to fill his stomach.’”

The Prophet said “I do not want to hear of anyone of you who, upon hearing a Hadith narrated from me, says while reclining on his pillow: ‘Recite Qur’an (to verify this Hadith).’ (Here the Propher SAW said) Any excellent word that is said, it is I who have said it.”
