Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Fasting

he asked the Messenger of Allah about fasting while traveling. He said: “If,” then he said something to the effect that: “If you want, then fast, and if you want, then do not fast.

“‘Umra is permissible.”

“If a slave runs away to the land of Shirk, there is no protection (or immunity) for him.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded me to send a woman to her husband before he gave something to her. Abu Dawud said: The narrator Khaithamah did not hear (any tradition) from ‘Aishah.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to a man at al-Baqi’ while he was cupping on the 18th of Ramadan ; he (the Prophet) was holding my hand. Thereupon he said: A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast. Abu Dawud said: The narrator Khalid al-Hadhdha’ transmitted a similar tradition from Abu Qilabah through a different chain of narrators mentioned by the narrator Ayyub.

When Allah bestowed Khaybar on His Prophet (ﷺ) as fay’ (as a result of conquest without fighting), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) allowed (them) to remain there as they were before, and apportioned it between him and them. He then sent Abdullah ibn Rawahah who assessed (the amount of dates) upon them.

I came to my family at night (after a journey) with my hands chapped and they perfumed me with saffron. In the morning I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and gave him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash this off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I came to him but there remained a spot of it on me. I give him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash it off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I then came and gave him a greeting. He responded to me and welcomed me, saying: The angels do not attend the funeral of an unbeliever bringing good to it, nor a man who smears himself with saffron, nor a man who is sexually defiled. He said: He permitted the man who was sexually defiled to perform ablution when he slept, ate or drank.

Marwan gave him some lashes and let him go.

Then al-Hasan forgot this tradition, and he used to say: A free man is not to be killed for a slave.

“I saw the Prophet, Abu Bakr, and Umar walking in front of the funeral.”

The Prophet mentioned the plague and said: “It is an abiding punishment or chastisement that was sent upon a group of the children of Isra’il. So when it occurs in a land while you are in it, then do not leave it. And when it occurs in a land while you are not in it, then do not enter it.”

“Idolaters from the Quraish came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) quarreling about Al-Qadar. So this Ayah was revealed: “The day they will be dragged on their faces into the Fire (it will be said to them): “Taste you the touch of Hell.” Verily we have created all things with Qadar.

“The idolaters were saying to the Messenger of Allah: ‘Name the lineage of your Lord for us.’ So Allah, Most High, revealed: Say: “He is Allah, the One. Allah As-Samad.” So As-Samad is ‘the One Who does not beget, nor is He begotten,’ because there is nothing born except it will die, and there is nothing that dies except that it will be inherited from, and verily. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, does not die, nor is He inherited from. ‘And there is none comparable to Him.’ He said: ‘There is nothing similar to Him, nor equal to Him, nor is there anything like Him.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever vomits, has a nosebleed, belches, or emits prostatic fluid, should stop praying; perform ablution, then resume his prayer, and while he is in that state he should not speak.”

the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “For crops that are irrigated by the sky (i.e. rain) and springs, one-tenth. For those that are irrigated by watering, one half of one-tenth.”

‘I came to the Prophet and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! I have become Muslim and I am married to two sisters.’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Divorce whichever of them you want.’ ”

“When the following was revealed: “And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, for whoever can bear the way.” They asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah, is Hajj every year?’ He remained silent. They asked: ‘Is it every year?’ He said: ‘No. If I had said yes, it would have become obligatory.’ Then the following was revealed: “O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble.’”

“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to a sick person, he would make supplication for him, and would say: Adhhibil-bas, Rabban-nas, washfi Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka shifa’an la yughadiru saqama (Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness).’”

“The Prophet (ﷺ) enjoined killing Dhit-Tufytain* for it takes away the sight and causes miscarriage.” *That means a wicked snake.

“A man with sick camels should not let them graze or drink alongside healthy ones.”
