Sahih al-Bukhari — Dress

We were with Masruq at the house of Yasar bin Numair. Masruq saw pictures on his terrace and said, “I heard `Abdullah saying that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “The people who will receive the severest punishment from Allah will be the picture makers.'”

From whom do you come? He described his relationship (with the tribe he belonged) and it was found that he belonged to the tribe of Laith. Ibn. Umar recognised him and said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) with these two ears of mine saying: He who trailed his lower garment with no other intention but pride, Allah would not look toward him on the Day of Resurrection.

I was with Masriuq in the house which had the portrayals of Mary (hadrat Maryan). Thereupon Masriuq said: These are portraits of Kisra. I said: No, these are of Mary. Masruq said: I heard Abdullah b, Mas’ud as saying Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had said: The most grievously tormented people on the Day of Resurrection would be the painters of pictures. (Muslim said): I read this before Nasr b. ‘Ali at-Jahdami and he read it before other narrators, the last one being Ibn Sa’id b Abl at Hasan that a person came to Ibn ‘Abbas and said: I am the person who paints pictures; give me a religious verdict about them. He (Ibn ‘Abbas) said to him: Come near me (still further). He came near him so much so that he placed his hand upon his head and said: I am going to narrate to yor what I heard from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ). I heard him say: All the painters who make pictures would be in the fire of Hell. The soul will be breathed in every picture prepared by him and it shall punish him in the Hell, and he (Ibn ‘Abbas) said: If you have to do it at all, then paint the pictures of trees and lifeless things; and Nasr b. ‘Ali confirmed it.

“We went out with the Messenger of Allah around the time of the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah, and the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever wishes to enter Ihram for Hajj, let him do so , and whoever wishes to enter Ihram for ‘Umrah, let him do so'”

“I heard the Messenger of Allah say: ‘Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.'”

Hunaydah ibn Khalid narrated from his wife on the authority of one of the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to fast the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, Ashura’ and three days of every month, that is, the first Monday (of the month) and Thursday.

A woman came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: I gave a slave girl to my mother, but she died and left the salve-girl. He said: Your reward became certain for you, and she (the slave-girl) returned to you as inheritance. She said: She died and one month’s fast was due from her. He (the narrator) then mentioned the tradition similar to the one mentioned by ‘Amr b. ‘Awn.

“For the Fajr prayer on Friday, Allah’s Messenger would recite: Alif Lam Mem (which is) revealed in (Surat) As-Sajdah and, Has there not been over man.”

“A woman came to the Prophet and said: ‘My sister died while she had two consecutive months of fasting due.’ So he said: ‘Do you not see that if there was a debt due from your sister then you would have to pay it?’ She said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Then the right of Allah is more appropriate.'”

“Whenever the Messenger of Allah would raise his hands in supplication, he would not lower them until he had wiped his face with them.”

the Prophet said: “One of you will be responded to, so long as he is not hasty, saying: ‘I supplicated, and I was not responded to.’”

“I said to ‘Aishah: ‘Tell me, what was the first thing that the Messenger of Allah did when he entered upon you?’ She said: ‘The first thing he would do would be to use the tooth stick.'”

“When the Prophet (ﷺ) stood on the pulpit, his Companions would turn to face him.”

a man declared Zihar upon his wife, then he had intercourse with her before offering expiation. He came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and told him about that. He said: “What made you do that?” He said: “I saw her ankles in the moonlight, and I could not control myself, and I had intercourse with her.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) smiled and told him not to go near her until he had offered expiation.

the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever takes an oath, and swears, saying: ‘By Al-Lat and Al-Uzza,’ let him say:’La ilaha illallah.’ “
