Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Zakah

“The poor man (Miskin) is not the one who goes around asking people and they send him away with a morsel or two, of a date or two. “They said: “Then what does poor (Mishkin) mean?” He said: “The one who does not possess independence of means and no one notices him to give charity to him, and he does not stand and ask of people.”

Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah came to the Prophet and said: “My mother has died and she had a vow to fulfill but she did not do so.” He said: “Fulfill it on her behalf.”

“Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah asked the Messenger of Allah about a vow which his mother had sworn, but she died before she could fulfill it. The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Fulfill it on her behalf.'”

A man from the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) died on the day of Khaybar. They mentioned the matter to the Messenger of Allah. He said: Offer prayer over your companion. When the faces of the people looked perplexed, he said: Your companion misappropriated booty in the path of Allah. We searched his belongings and found some Jewish beads not worth two dirhams.

I memorised (a tradition) from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): There is no orphanhood after puberty, and there is no silence for the whole day till the night.

“Charity does not diminish wealth, Allah does not increase a man in anything for his pardoning (others) but in honor, and none humbles himself for Allah but Allah raises him.”

“Allah created a hundred mercies, and He placed one mercy among his creation, they show mercy to one another by it, and there are ninety-nine mercies with Allah.”

“The land around a date-palm tree, as far as its branches reach, belongs to the owner of the tree.”

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘For guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah, defending the Muslims, seeking reward, apart from in the month of Ramadan, there is a reward granted greater than worshipping for a hundred years, fasting and praying. Guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah, defending the Muslims, seeking reward, in the month of Ramadan, is better before Allah and brings a greater reward” – I think he said – “than worshipping for a thousand years, fasting and praying. If Allah returns him to his family safe and sound, no bad deed will be recorded for him for a thousand years, but his good deeds will be recorded, and the reward for guarding the frontier will come to him until the Day of Resurrection.”
