## Hadith #1290

**Book:** Funerals (Al-Janaa'iz) | **Narrator(s):** Talha bin 'Abdullah طلحة بن عبد الله بن عوف الزهري | **Grade:** Sahih

I offered the funeral prayer behind Ibn `Abbas and he recited Al-Fatiha and said, “You should know that it (i.e. recitation of Al-Fatiha) is the tradition of the Prophet (ﷺ) Muhammad.

That Zaid bin Arqam offered the funeral prayer and said the Takbir five times, and said that the Messenger of Allah had said the Takbir like this.

“A Jewish man cast a spell on the Prophet  got up as if he had been released from some bonds. No mention of that was made to that Jew, and he did not see that in his face at all.”

“I heard Sufyan Ath-Thawri narrating this Hadith. He said: ‘A man came to the Prophet  and said: “What if a man comes to me and wants to take my wealth?” He said: “Remind him of Allah.” He said: “What if he pays no heed?” He said: “Seek the help of the Muslims around you against him.” He said: “What if there are no Muslims around me?” He said: “Seek the help of the ruler against him.” He said: “What if the ruler is far away from me?” He said: “Fight to defend your wealth until you either become one of the martyrs of the Hereafter, or you protect your wealth (successfully).”

Zaid b. Arqam used to utter four takbirs (Allah is Most Great) over our dead person (during prayer). He uttered five takbirs on a dead person. So I asked him. He replied: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to utter those.
Abu Dawud said: I remember the tradition of Ibn al-Muthanna in a more guarded way.

This man with the crippled hand was on that day with us in the mosque. We would sit with him by day and by night, and he was a poor man. I saw him attending the meals of ‘Ali (ra) which he took with the people, and I clothed him with a cloak of mine.
Abu Maryam said: The man with the crippled hand was called Nafi` Dhu al-Thadyah (Nafi`, man of nipple). He had in his hand something like a female breast with a nipple at it ends like the nipple of the female breast. If had some hair on it like the whiskers of cat.
Abu Dawud said: He was known among the people by the name of Harqus.

that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Indeed, whoever kills a Mu’ahid that has a covenant from Allah and a covenant from His Messenger (ﷺ), then he has violated the covenant with Allah and the covenant of His Messenger, so he shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise; even though its fragrance can be sensed from the distance of seventy autumns.”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed Allah made Makkah sacred, it was not made sacred by the people. Whoever believes in Allah, and the Last Day, then let them not shed blood in it, nor cut down any of its trees. If one tries to make an excuse by saying: ‘It was made lawful for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)’ then indeed Allah made it lawful for me but He did not make it lawful for the people, and it was only made lawful for me for an hour of a day. Then it is returned to being sacred until the Day of Judgement. Then, to you people of Khuza’ah who killed this man from Hudhail: I am his ‘Aqil, so whomever (one of his relatives) is killed after today, then his people have two options; either they have him killed, or they take the blood-money from him.'”

“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, where will you stay tomorrow?’ That was during his Hajj. He said: ‘Has ‘Aqil left us any house?’ Then he said: ‘Tomorrow we will stay in the valley of Banu Kinanah, Muhassab where the Quraish swore an oath of disbelief.’” That was where the Banu Kinana had sworn an oath with the Quriash against Banu Hashim, that they would not intermarry with them or engage in trade with them. Ma’mar said: “Zuhri said: Khaif means a valley.’”
