Sunan al-Nasa'i — The Book of Presents

“I have given my son a slave of mine as a present.” The Messenger of Allah said: “Have you given a present to all of your children?” He said: “No.” The Messenger of Allah said: “Then take (your present) back.”

“O Messenger of Allah, I have given this son of mine a slave who belonged to me as a present.” The Messenger of Allah said: “Have you given a present to all your children?” He said: “No.” He said: “Then take (your present) back.”

“The Messenger of Allah forbade mixing Al-Busr with dried dates, or raisins with dried dates, or raisins with Al-Busr, and he said: ‘Whoever among you (wants to) drink them, let him drink each one of them on its own: dried dates on their own, or Al-Busr on their own, or raisins on their own.”

The Prophet forbade mixing Al-Busr with dried dates, or raisins with dried dates, or raisins with Al-Busr, and he said: “Whoever among you (wants to) drink them, let him drink each one on its own.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The most favoured horses are the sorrel.

A time is certainly coming to mankind when people will bite each other and a rich man will hold fast, what he has in his possession (i.e. his property), though he was not commanded for that. Allah, Most High, said: “And do not forget liberality between yourselves.” The men who are forced will contract sale while the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade forced contract, one which involves some uncertainty, and the sale of fruit before it is ripe.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: recite Surat al-Nisa’. I asked: Shall I recite to you what was sent down to you? He replied: I like to here it from someone else. So I recited (it) until I reached this verse “How then shall it be when We bring from every people a witness?”. Then I raised my head and saw tears falling from his eyes.

We went on the pilgrimage and met a man who asked us: Is there a town near you called al-Ubullah? We said: Yes. He said: Is there any of you who will undertake to pray two or four rak’ahs on my behalf in the mosque of al-Ashshar, stating “they are on behalf of AbuHurayrah”? He (Abu Hurayrah) said: I heard my friend AbulQasim (ﷺ) say: On the Day of Resurrection Allah will raise martyrs from the mosque of al-Ashshar, who will be the only ones to rise with the martyrs of Badr. Abu Dawud said: This mosque is near the river.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) killed a man of Banu Nadr ibn Malik at Harrah ar-Righa’ at the bank of Layyat al-Bahrah. The transmitter Mahmud (ibn Khalid) also mentioned the words along with the words “at Bahrah” “the slayer and the slain were from among them”. Mahmud alone transmitted in this tradition the words “at the bank of Layyah”.

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: It is great treachery that you should tell your brother something and have him believe you when you are lying.

From his father, about ‘Aishah that: “She would walk in one sandal.” This is more correct. This is how it was reported by Sufyan Ath-Thawri and others, from ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Qasim, in Mawquf form, and this is more correct.

From his father, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Do not leave the fire (burning) in your houses when you sleep.” This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.

“We were seated with the Prophet (s.a.w) when he looked towards the moon on the night of a full moon and said: “Indeed you shall be placed before your Lord and you shall see Him as you see this moon. You will see Him without trouble. So if you are able to keep from becoming overwhelmed from prayer before the rising of the sun and before its setting, then do so.” Then he recited: And glorify the praises of your Lord before the setting.”

When the Prophet went to relieve himself, he would go far away.

“Do I not have the right that you should listen to me and obey?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “And if I command you to do something, will you not do it?” They said: “Of course.” He said: “Then I command you to jump into this fire.” Some people got up and got ready to jump, and when he saw that they were about to jump, he said: “Restrain yourselves, for I was joking with you.” When we came to Al-Madinah, they mentioned that to the Prophet (ﷺ), and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever among you commands you to do something that involves disobedience to Allah, do not obey him.”

“Jibrail send (greetings of) Salam to you.” She said: “Wa ‘alahisalam wa rahmatullah (and upon him be peace and mercy of Allah).”

“It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is most beloved to you?’ He said: “Aishah.’ It was asked, ‘And among men?’ He said: ‘Her father.'”

“I saw the paralyzed hand of Talhah, with which he had defended the Messenger of Allah on the Day of Uhud.”
