I heard Jarir bin ‘Abdullah (Praising Allah). On the day when Al-Mughira bin Shu’ba died, he (Jarir) got up (on the pulpit) and thanked and praised Allah and said, “Be afraid of Allah alone Who has none along with Him to be worshipped.(You should) be calm and quiet till the (new) chief comes to you and he will come to you soon. Ask Allah’s forgiveness for your (late) chief because he himself loved to forgive others.” Jarir added, “Amma badu (now then), I went to the Prophet and said, ‘I give my pledge of allegiance to you for Islam.” The Prophet (ﷺ) conditioned (my pledge) for me to be sincere and true to every Muslim so I gave my pledge to him for this. By the Lord of this mosque! I am sincere and true to you (Muslims). Then Jarir asked for Allah’s forgiveness and came down (from the pulpit).
“And the tall palm trees having flower spikes piled one above another (l. 10) or perhaps Surah Qaf.”
I heard Mughira b. Shu’ba saying that the sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the day when Ibrahim died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate Allah, and observe prayer till it is over.
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered upon us and the only people present were myself, my mother, the orphan and Umm Harh, my maternal aunt. He said: ‘Stand up and I will lead you in prayer.’ It was not the time for a (prescribed) prayer. And he led us in prayer.”
“Prayer in congregation is twenty-five levels better than a prayer offered on one’s own.”
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite between sixty and one hundred verses in Al-Ghadah (Subh) prayer.
“I am going to watch the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and see how he prays. So, I watched him.” And he described (his prayer): “Then he sat and lay his left foot on the ground, and placed his left hand on his left thigh and knee. He put his right elbow on his right thigh, then he made a circle with two fingers of his (right) hand, then he raised his finger and I saw him moving it, supplicating with it.”
“Aishah may Allah (SWT) be pleased with her, said: ‘ When the last ten nights of Ramadan began, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stayed up at night (for prayer) and he woke his family up and tightened his waist-wrap.'”
“I heard Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib say: The Messenger of Allah said: ‘whoever follows a Janazah until the prayer is offered, he will have one Qirat of reward and whoever walks with the funeral until (the body) is buried will have two Qirats of reward, and a Qirat is like Uhud.”‘
“I was with the Messenger of Allah, and ‘Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, was in Yemen at that time. A man came to him and said: ‘I saw ‘Ali when three men were brought to him who all claimed (to be the father) of a child. ‘Ali said to one of them: Will you give the child up to him? And he refused. He said to (the next one): Will you give the child up to him? And he refused. He said to (the next one): Will you give the child up to him? And he refused. ‘Ali said: You are disputing partners. I will cast lots among you, and whoever wins the draw, the child is for him, and he has to pay two-thirds of the Diyah.’ The Messenger of Allah laughed so much that his back teeth became visible.”
“I heard Anas say: ‘The Messenger of Allah said: The major sins are: Associating others with Allah (Shirk), disobeying one’s parents, killing a soul (murder) and speaking falsely.'”
The Prophet said: “The major sins are: Associating others with Allah, disobeying parents, killing a soul (murder) and swearing a false oath knowingly.”
His father – who was one of the Companions of the Prophet – told him: “A man said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins?’ He said: ‘They are seven; the most grievous of which are associating others with Allah, killing a soul unlawfully and fleeing (from the battlefield) on the day of the march.'” It is abridged.
“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which sin is the most grievous?’ He said: ‘Setting up a rival to Allah while it is He that has created you.’ I said: ‘Then what?’ He said: ‘Killing your child for fear that he may eat with you.’ I said: ‘Then what?’ He said: ‘Committing adultery with your neighbor’s wife.'”
“While I was with Mutarrif in Al-Mirbad, a man came in carrying a piece of leather and said: ‘This was written to me by the Messenger of Allah. Is there anyone among you who can read?’ I said: ‘I can read.’ And it was (a letter) from Muhammad the Prophet to Banu Zuhair bin Uqaish, who had testified to Lailah illallah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and had left the idolaters, and had agreed to give the Khumus from their spoils of the Prophet, and wheatever he chose for himself, so they became safe and secure by the covenant of Allah and His Messenger.”
A woman said: Messenger of Allah, my womb is a vessel to this son of mine, my breasts, a water-skin for him, and my lap a guard for him, yet his father has divorced me, and wants to take him away from me. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: You have more right to him as long as you do not marry.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to kiss and embrace while he was fasting, but he was the one of you who had most control over his desire.
The Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone buys sheep whose udders have been tied up, he has option for three days: he may return it if he desires with a sa’ of any grain, not (necessarily) wheat.
The Prophet (ﷺ) came to visit Sa’d ibn Ubaydah, and he brought bread and olive oil, and he ate (them). Them). Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: May the fasting (men) break their fast with you, and the pious eat your food, and the angels pray for blessing on you.
The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) said: You will have commanders some of whom you will approve and some of whom you will disapprove. He who expresses disapproval with his tongue (Abu Dawud said : This is Hisham’s version) is guiltless; and he who feels disapproval in his heart, is safe, but he who is pleased and follows them. He was asked; shall we not kill them, Messenger of Allah? Abu Dawud’s version has : Shall we not fight with them? He replied : No, so long as they pray.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Those who are nearest to Allah are they who are first to give a salutation.
“I heard Allah’s Messenger reciting for Fajr: And tall date palms in the first Rak’ah.
“Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah les us in Salat. When he prayed two Rak’ah he stood without sitting. Those who were behind him said ‘Subhan Allah’ and he indicated to them that they should stand. He said the Taslim when he had finished his Salat and he performed two prostrations of As-Sahw, and said the Taslim. He said that Allah’s Messenger did this.”
They were with the Prophet (S) on a journey. They wound up in a narrow area when Salat became due. Then it began raining from the sky above them, and it was wet beneath them. So Allah’s Messenger (S) called the Adhan while he was on his mount, and then the Iqamah, going forward on his mount. He let them in Salat by making gestures, making his prostrations lower than his bowing.
“The Prophet would kiss during the month of fasting.”
Amrah informed him that she heard Aishah, while it was being mentioned to her that Ibn Umar had said that the deceased would be punished for the crying of the living (over him). So Aishah said: ‘May Allah forgive Abu Abdur-Rahman. He has not lied, but he is mistaken in the understanding. Rather, the Messenger of Allah passed by a Jewish woman who was being cried over, so he said: ‘They are crying over her and she is being punished in her grave.'”
“Drink from their milk and Urine”.
“See if he has any heirs.” They said: “No.” He said: ‘Pay it to someone among the people of the town.”
It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray two Rak’ah after Jumu’ah.
“If anyone of you is invited to eat when he is fasting, let him say: ‘I am fasting.’”
“I divorced my wife when she was menstruating. ‘Umar mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: ‘Tell him to take her back until she becomes pure (i.e., her period ends), then she has her period (again), then she becomes pure (again), then if he wishes he may divorce her before having sexual relations with her, and if he wishes he may keep her. This is the waiting period that Allah has enjoined.'”
“We performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and there were women and children with us. We recited Talbiyah on behalf of the children and stoned the Pillars on their behalf.”
“I passed by the Prophet (saas) and he said to me: ‘O Hazim, say often: “La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (there is no power and no strength except with Allah),” for it is one of the treasures of Paradise.'”
