Verse 21:14 in Context

10 لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡ كِتَـٰبࣰا فِیهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٠ laqad anzalnā ilaykum kitāban fīhi dhik'rukum afalā taʿqilūn And now We have sent down to you [people] a Scripture to remind you. Will you not use your reason 11 وَكَمۡ قَصَمۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةࣲ كَانَتۡ ظَالِمَةࣰ وَأَنشَأۡنَا بَعۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝١١ wakam qaṣamnā min qaryatin kānat ẓālimatan wa-anshanā baʿdahā qawman ākharīn How many communities of evildoers We have destroyed! How many others We have raised up in their places 12 فَلَمَّاۤ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأۡسَنَاۤ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا یَرۡكُضُونَ ۝١٢ falammā aḥassū basanā idhā hum min'hā yarkuḍūn When they felt Our might coming upon them, see how they tried to escape it 13 لَا تَرۡكُضُوا۟ وَٱرۡجِعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ مَاۤ أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ فِیهِ وَمَسَـٰكِنِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡءَلُونَ ۝١٣ lā tarkuḍū wa-ir'jiʿū ilā mā ut'rif'tum fīhi wamasākinikum laʿallakum tus'alūn ‘Do not try to escape. Go back to your homes and the pleasure you revelled in: you may be questioned.’
14 قَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَاۤ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٤ qālū yāwaylanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn They said, ‘Woe to us! We were wrong!’
15 فَمَا زَالَت تِّلۡكَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ حَصِیدًا خَـٰمِدِینَ ۝١٥ famā zālat til'ka daʿwāhum ḥattā jaʿalnāhum ḥaṣīdan khāmidīn and that cry of theirs did not cease until We made them burnt-offstubble 16 وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِینَ ۝١٦ wamā khalaqnā l-samāa wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā lāʿibīn We did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them playfully 17 لَوۡ أَرَدۡنَاۤ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهۡوࣰا لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّاۤ إِن كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝١٧ law aradnā an nattakhidha lahwan la-ittakhadhnāhu min ladunnā in kunnā fāʿilīn If We had wished for a pastime, We could have found it within Us- if We had wished for any such thing 18 بَلۡ نَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ فَیَدۡمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقࣱۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡوَیۡلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ ۝١٨ bal naqdhifu bil-ḥaqi ʿalā l-bāṭili fayadmaghuhu fa-idhā huwa zāhiqun walakumu l-waylu mimmā taṣifūn No! We hurl the truth against falsehood, and truth obliterates it- see how falsehood vanishes away! Woe to you [people] for the way you describe God
