The Short Version
ParallelQuran does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. We have no user accounts, no login system, no analytics tracking, no advertising, and no third-party data-collection scripts. Everything that makes this site remember your preferences — your favorite translator, your reading progress, your quiz scores — is stored locally on your own device using cookies and browser storage. None of that data ever leaves your device or reaches our servers.
What We Do Not Collect
- No names, email addresses, or personal information (the Contact page form sends a one-time email and does not store your submission in any database)
- No IP addresses or geolocation data
- No browsing history or page-view tracking
- No Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other analytics service
- No advertising networks or ad-tracking cookies
- No user accounts, passwords, or login credentials
Cookies and Local Storage We Use
To make your experience more personal — remembering your preferred translator, keeping your reading progress, saving quiz scores — the site stores small pieces of data on your device. This data is never sent to our servers. Here is a complete list of everything stored:
Browser Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. The following cookies are set by ParallelQuran:
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration | Example Value |
|---|---|---|---|
pq_view_mode |
Remembers which "View As" mode you selected (Everyone, Scholar, New to Islam, or Kids & Family) so the site shows the right sidebar and resources on every page. | 1 year | scholar |
pq_fav_translator |
Stores the name of your preferred Quran translator so the site can highlight their translation on surah and verse pages. | 1 year | Yusuf%20Ali |
pq_quiz_progress |
Saves your comprehension quiz scores and which quizzes you have completed so you can track your progress over time. | 1 year | {"surah1":{"score":8,"total":10}} |
Browser Local Storage
Local storage is similar to cookies but can hold more data. It stays on your device until you clear it. The following keys are used:
| Storage Key | Purpose | Example Value |
|---|---|---|
pq_verse_tracker_active |
Remembers the currently selected student profile name for the Reading & Memorization Progress tracker so the site loads the correct profile when you return. | Ahmad |
pq_progress_summary_{name} |
Stores each student profile's reading and memorization progress — which surahs and verses have been completed, your current streak, and the last active date. One key is created per student profile. | {"streak":5,"lastActiveDate":"2026-04-12"} |
pq_vocab_{category} |
Tracks which vocabulary words you have studied in the Morphology Explorer, organized by grammatical category (nouns, verbs, particles, etc.). | ["noun","verb","particle"] |
Third-Party Services
ParallelQuran loads certain resources from external servers to provide fonts, maps, and audio. These services may receive your IP address as part of the normal web request. We have no control over their privacy practices, but none of them are used for tracking or advertising purposes:
- Google Fonts — Loads the Amiri (Arabic) and Inter (English) typefaces. Google may receive your IP address when fonts are requested.
- Cloudflare CDN — ParallelQuran uses Cloudflare as a content delivery network to serve pages faster. Cloudflare may set a technical cookie (__cf_bm) to distinguish humans from bots. This is a standard security measure and does not track your browsing activity.
- QuranCDN / Islamic Network CDN — Audio files for Quran recitation are loaded from qurancdn.com and cdn.islamic.network. These services may receive your IP address when audio is requested.
- Leaflet / CARTO — Interactive maps load map tiles from basemaps.cartocdn.com. CARTO may receive your IP address when map tiles are requested.
- unpkg / jsDelivr — JavaScript libraries (Leaflet, vis-network, D3) are loaded from these public CDNs. They may receive your IP address as part of the request.
What Happens If You Clear Your Data
Because all your preferences and progress are stored on your device, clearing your cookies or browser storage will erase them. Specifically, you will lose:
- View As preference — The site will revert to "Everyone" mode. You will need to re-select Scholar, New to Islam, or Kids & Family if you were using one of those modes.
- Favorite translator — Your preferred Quran translator will no longer be highlighted. You will need to choose one again on any surah page.
- Quiz progress — All comprehension quiz scores and completion records will be erased. Quizzes will appear as if you have never taken them.
- Reading & memorization progress — All student profiles, surah completion tracking, verse-by-verse memorization marks, streaks, and last-active dates will be permanently lost. This is the most significant data loss — please consider this carefully before clearing.
- Vocabulary progress — Records of which vocabulary words you have studied in the Morphology Explorer will be erased.
There is no way to recover this data once it is cleared. Because the data is stored only on your device and not on our servers, we cannot restore it for you. If you use multiple devices or browsers, each one has its own separate data.
