Verse 23:4 in Context

1
۞ قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ١
qad aflaḥa l-mu'minūn
[How] prosperous are the believers
2
ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ فِی صَلَاتِهِمۡ خَـٰشِعُونَ ٢
alladhīna hum fī ṣalātihim khāshiʿūn
Those who pray humbly
3
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَنِ ٱللَّغۡوِ مُعۡرِضُونَ ٣
wa-alladhīna hum ʿani l-laghwi muʿ'riḍūn
who shun idle talk
4
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَـٰعِلُونَ ٤
wa-alladhīna hum lilzzakati fāʿilūn
who pay the prescribed alms
5
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَـٰفِظُونَ ٥
wa-alladhīna hum lifurūjihim ḥāfiẓūn
who guard their chastit
6
إِلَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَیۡرُ مَلُومِینَ ٦
illā ʿalā azwājihim aw mā malakat aymānuhum fa-innahum ghayru malūmīn
except with their spouses or their slaves––with these they are not to blame
7
فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَاۤءَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ ٧
famani ib'taghā warāa dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-ʿādūn
but anyone who seeks more than this is exceeding the limits––
8
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَ ٰعُونَ ٨
wa-alladhīna hum li-amānātihim waʿahdihim rāʿūn
who are faithful to their trusts and pledge
