A short lesson on why telling the truth, keeping promises, and being faithful to a trust are so dear to Allah.
Sit with me a moment, my love. Did you know that even before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) became a prophet, the people of Makkah – even the ones who did not yet follow him – already had a nickname for him? They called him "Al-Amin," which means "The Trustworthy One." Imagine that, sweetheart. He was so known for telling the truth, for keeping his word, for never lying, that everyone in his city used that as his name. Truth is one of the most beautiful things a Muslim can wear, like a soft cloak that everyone around us can see. Tonight I want to share two of his teachings with you about being truthful.
1. The Three Signs
The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave us a very simple way to know if we are being honest people. He said there are three signs that show up in someone who is not being truthful: when they speak, they tell a lie; when they make a promise, they break it; and when someone trusts them with something, they are not faithful to it. He said it so plainly, sweetheart, because he wanted us to remember it. A truthful person does the opposite – their words are true, their promises are kept, and the things people trust them with are safe in their hands.
What it means for us: So when you tell me what really happened today, even if you are worried about getting in trouble – that is being truthful. When you promise your friend you will play with them after lunch and then you actually do – that is keeping a promise. When your sister hands you her favorite toy to hold for one minute and you give it right back safely – that is being faithful to a trust. Those three little things, sweetheart, make you the kind of person Allah loves.

2. A Reminder He Said Again and Again
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said these same three signs more than once – we have them written down in different places by different companions, because he taught it so often. Whenever he saw his friends, he kept reminding them: be careful about lying, be careful about breaking promises, and be careful when people trust you with something. He repeated it because he loved them, and because he knew that little dishonesties grow into big ones if we are not careful. A small lie today can become a bigger lie tomorrow. A broken promise today can make a friend stop trusting us next week.
What it means for us: That is why I remind you too, my love. Not because I think you mean to do wrong – but because being honest is a habit, like brushing your teeth. The more we practice it, the more naturally it comes. And every time you tell the truth even when it is hard, Allah is so proud of you.

A Little Thought Before Bed
So tonight, sweetheart, lets make a little promise to each other. We will try our best to say what really happened, to keep the promises we make, and to take care of the things people trust us with. Truth is light in the heart of a Muslim – and Allah loves a light-filled heart. Even if you ever slip and tell a small fib by mistake, do not be afraid. Just come tell me, and Allah forgives every honest heart that turns back to Him.
Ya Allah, make my tongue truthful, my promises strong, and my heart faithful to everything I am trusted with. Ameen.
