87:1 ›
سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
Shabbir Ahmed
Strive to raise the Name of your Lord, the Most High. (Establish His Glory on earth (56:96))
Sabbihi isma rabbika al-aAAla
87:2 ›
الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Who creates and proportions. (So that all things might become what they are meant to be)
Allathee khalaqa fasawwa
87:3 ›
وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
And Who appoints due measure and then shows the way (to all things as to their functions)
Waallathee qaddara fahada
87:4 ›
وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
And Who brings forth the lush pasture
Waallathee akhraja almarAAa
87:5 ›
فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
And then turns it into rust-brown residue. (18:45)
FajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa
87:6 ›
سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
(O Messenger) We shall teach you thus that you will never forget. (Mankind need Guidance like all things in the Universe do)
Sanuqri-oka fala tansa
87:7 ›
إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Allah never Wills you to forget (17:86). Behold, He knows the manifest and what is hidden
Illa ma shaa Allahu innahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa
87:8 ›
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
And thus We shall ease your way to the ultimate ease. (To the end that you will establish the Qur'an in the society)
Wanuyassiruka lilyusra
87:9 ›
فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Therefore, keep reminding, for, the Reminder does benefit
Fathakkir in nafaAAati alththikra
87:10 ›
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
(Behold), he will heed who fears (the consequences of pre-emptive rejection)
Sayaththakkaru man yakhsha
87:11 ›
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
Shabbir Ahmed
And only the unfortunate will stay on the side-lines
Wayatajannabuha al-ashqa
87:12 ›
الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
He who will be cast into the great Fire
Allathee yasla alnnara alkubra
87:13 ›
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Wherein he neither dies nor lives. Mere survival
Thumma la yamootu feeha wala yahya
87:14 ›
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Successful, indeed, is he who primes his 'Self' for development. (Living upright, helping others)
Qad aflaha man tazakka
87:15 ›
وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
And keeps foremost in mind the Name and the Attributes of his Lord and then follows through
Wathakara isma rabbihi fasalla
87:16 ›
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Shabbir Ahmed
But nay, you prefer the life of this world. (Given to instant gains instead of living upright that ensures success in both lives (2:201), (3:147), (4:134), (7:156), (10:64), (17:72), (28:77), (42:22))
Bal tu/thiroona alhayata alddunya
87:17 ›
وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Although the Hereafter is better and more enduring
Waal-akhiratu khayrun waabqa
87:18 ›
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, this has been said in the former Revelations as well. ('Suhuf' = Scrolls = Revelations)
Inna hatha lafee alssuhufi al-oola
87:19 ›
صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
Shabbir Ahmed
The Revelations of Abraham and Moses
Suhufi ibraheema wamoosa
