Verse 37:123 in Context

119 وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١١٩ wataraknā ʿalayhimā fī l-ākhirīn We let them be praised by succeeding generations 120 سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١٢٠ salāmun ʿalā mūsā wahārūn ‘Peace be upon Moses and Aaron!’ 121 إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٢١ innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn This is how We reward those who do good 122 إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٢٢ innahumā min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn truly they were among Our faithful servants
123 وَإِنَّ إِلۡیَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٢٣ wa-inna il'yāsa lamina l-mur'salīn Elijah too was one of the messengers
124 إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٢٤ idh qāla liqawmihi alā tattaqūn He said to his people, ‘Have you no fear of God 125 أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٢٥ atadʿūna baʿlan watadharūna aḥsana l-khāliqīn How can you invoke Baal and forsake the Most Gracious Creator 126 ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَاۤىِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٢٦ al-laha rabbakum warabba ābāikumu l-awalīn God, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?’ 127 فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٢٧ fakadhabūhu fa-innahum lamuḥ'ḍarūn but they rejected him. They will be brought to punishment as a consequence
