یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَرۡفَعُوۤا۟ أَصۡوَ ٰتَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ صَوۡتِ ٱلنَّبِیِّ وَلَا تَجۡهَرُوا۟ لَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ كَجَهۡرِ بَعۡضِكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ أَن تَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَـٰلُكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٢

John Medows Rodwell

O Believers! raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, neither speak loud to him as ye speak loud one to another, lest your works come to nought, and ye unaware of it

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā tarfaʿū aṣwātakum fawqa ṣawti l-nabiyi walā tajharū lahu bil-qawli kajahri baʿḍikum libaʿḍin an taḥbaṭa aʿmālukum wa-antum lā tashʿurūn

49:3

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَغُضُّونَ أَصۡوَ ٰتَهُمۡ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱمۡتَحَنَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمۡ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰۚ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣱ وَأَجۡرٌ عَظِیمٌ ۝٣

John Medows Rodwell

They who lower their voices in the presence of the Apostle of God, are the persons whose hearts God hath inclined to piety. Forgiveness shall be theirs and a rich reward

inna alladhīna yaghuḍḍūna aṣwātahum ʿinda rasūli l-lahi ulāika alladhīna im'taḥana l-lahu qulūbahum lilttaqwā lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun ʿaẓīmu

49:4

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یُنَادُونَكَ مِن وَرَاۤءِ ٱلۡحُجُرَ ٰتِ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٤

John Medows Rodwell

They who call out to thee while thou art within thine APARTMENTS, have most of them no right perception of what is due to thee

inna alladhīna yunādūnaka min warāi l-ḥujurāti aktharuhum lā yaʿqilūn

49:5

وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ صَبَرُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ تَخۡرُجَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَكَانَ خَیۡرࣰا لَّهُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٥

John Medows Rodwell

But if they wait patiently till thou come forth to them, it were far better for them. But God is Indulgent, Merciful

walaw annahum ṣabarū ḥattā takhruja ilayhim lakāna khayran lahum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

49:6

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن جَاۤءَكُمۡ فَاسِقُۢ بِنَبَإࣲ فَتَبَیَّنُوۤا۟ أَن تُصِیبُوا۟ قَوۡمَۢا بِجَهَـٰلَةࣲ فَتُصۡبِحُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلۡتُمۡ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٦

John Medows Rodwell

O Believers! if any bad man come to you with news, clear it up at once, lest through ignorance ye harm others, and speedily have to repent of what ye have done

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in jāakum fāsiqun binaba-in fatabayyanū an tuṣībū qawman bijahālatin fatuṣ'biḥū ʿalā mā faʿaltum nādimīn

49:7

وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ فِیكُمۡ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِۚ لَوۡ یُطِیعُكُمۡ فِی كَثِیرࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِ لَعَنِتُّمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنَ وَزَیَّنَهُۥ فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡكُفۡرَ وَٱلۡفُسُوقَ وَٱلۡعِصۡیَانَۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلرَّ ٰشِدُونَ ۝٧

John Medows Rodwell

And know that an Apostle of God is among you! should he give way to you in many matters ye would certainly become guilty of a crime. But God hath endeared the faith to you, and hath given it favour in your hearts, and hath made unbelief, and wickedness, and disobedience hateful to you. Such are they who pursue a right course

wa-iʿ'lamū anna fīkum rasūla l-lahi law yuṭīʿukum fī kathīrin mina l-amri laʿanittum walākinna l-laha ḥabbaba ilaykumu l-īmāna wazayyanahu fī qulūbikum wakarraha ilaykumu l-kuf'ra wal-fusūqa wal-ʿiṣ'yāna ulāika humu l-rāshidūn

49:8

فَضۡلࣰا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَنِعۡمَةࣰۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٨

John Medows Rodwell

Through the bounty and grace which is from God: and God is Knowing, Wise

faḍlan mina l-lahi waniʿ'matan wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

49:9

وَإِن طَاۤىِٕفَتَانِ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ٱقۡتَتَلُوا۟ فَأَصۡلِحُوا۟ بَیۡنَهُمَاۖ فَإِنۢ بَغَتۡ إِحۡدَىٰهُمَا عَلَى ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ فَقَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّتِی تَبۡغِی حَتَّىٰ تَفِیۤءَ إِلَىٰۤ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَإِن فَاۤءَتۡ فَأَصۡلِحُوا۟ بَیۡنَهُمَا بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَأَقۡسِطُوۤا۟ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِینَ ۝٩

John Medows Rodwell

If two bodies of the faithful are at war, then make ye peace between them: and if the one of them wrong the other, fight against that party which doth the wrong, until they come back to the precepts of God: if they come back, make peace between them with fairness, and act impartially; God loveth those who act with impartiality

wa-in ṭāifatāni mina l-mu'minīna iq'tatalū fa-aṣliḥū baynahumā fa-in baghat iḥ'dāhumā ʿalā l-ukh'rā faqātilū allatī tabghī ḥattā tafīa ilā amri l-lahi fa-in fāat fa-aṣliḥū baynahumā bil-ʿadli wa-aqsiṭū inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-muq'siṭīn

49:10

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ إِخۡوَةࣱ فَأَصۡلِحُوا۟ بَیۡنَ أَخَوَیۡكُمۡۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝١٠

John Medows Rodwell

Only the faithful are brethren; wherefore make peace between your brethren; and fear God, that ye may obtain mercy

innamā l-mu'minūna ikh'watun fa-aṣliḥū bayna akhawaykum wa-ittaqū l-laha laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

49:11

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا یَسۡخَرۡ قَوۡمࣱ مِّن قَوۡمٍ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا نِسَاۤءࣱ مِّن نِّسَاۤءٍ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُنَّ خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهُنَّۖ وَلَا تَلۡمِزُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا۟ بِٱلۡأَلۡقَـٰبِۖ بِئۡسَ الْاِسْمُ ٱلۡفُسُوقُ بَعۡدَ ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِۚ وَمَن لَّمۡ یَتُبۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝١١

John Medows Rodwell

O Believers! let not men laugh men to scorn who haply may be better than themselves; neither let women laugh women to scorn who may haply be better than themselves! Neither defame one another, nor call one another by nicknames. Bad is it to be called wicked after having professed the faith: and whoso repent not of this are doers of wrong

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā yaskhar qawmun min qawmin ʿasā an yakūnū khayran min'hum walā nisāon min nisāin ʿasā an yakunna khayran min'hunna walā talmizū anfusakum walā tanābazū bil-alqābi bi'sa l-s'mu l-fusūqu baʿda l-īmāni waman lam yatub fa-ulāika humu l-ẓālimūn

49:12

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱجۡتَنِبُوا۟ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثۡمࣱۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا۟ وَلَا یَغۡتَب بَّعۡضُكُم بَعۡضًاۚ أَیُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمۡ أَن یَأۡكُلَ لَحۡمَ أَخِیهِ مَیۡتࣰا فَكَرِهۡتُمُوهُۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٢

John Medows Rodwell

O Believers! avoid frequent suspicions, for some suspicions are a crime; and pry not: neither let the one of you traduce another in his absence. Would any one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Surely ye would loathe it. And fear ye God: for God is Ready to turn, Merciful

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ij'tanibū kathīran mina l-ẓani inna baʿḍa l-ẓani ith'mun walā tajassasū walā yaghtab baʿḍukum baʿḍan ayuḥibbu aḥadukum an yakula laḥma akhīhi maytan fakarih'tumūhu wa-ittaqū l-laha inna l-laha tawwābun raḥīmu

49:13

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُم مِّن ذَكَرࣲ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ شُعُوبࣰا وَقَبَاۤىِٕلَ لِتَعَارَفُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ أَكۡرَمَكُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتۡقَىٰكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمٌ خَبِیرࣱ ۝١٣

John Medows Rodwell

O men! verily, we have created you of a male and a female; and we have divided you into peoples and tribes that ye might have knowledge one of another. Truly, the most worthy of honour in the sight of God is he who feareth Him most. Verily, God is Knowing, Cognisant

yāayyuhā l-nāsu innā khalaqnākum min dhakarin wa-unthā wajaʿalnākum shuʿūban waqabāila litaʿārafū inna akramakum ʿinda l-lahi atqākum inna l-laha ʿalīmun khabīru

49:14

۞ قَالَتِ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابُ ءَامَنَّاۖ قُل لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قُولُوۤا۟ أَسۡلَمۡنَا وَلَمَّا یَدۡخُلِ ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنُ فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡۖ وَإِن تُطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ لَا یَلِتۡكُم مِّنۡ أَعۡمَـٰلِكُمۡ شَیۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٤

John Medows Rodwell

The Arabs of the desert say, "We believe." Say thou: Ye believe not; but rather say, "We profess Islam;" for the faith hath not yet found its way into your hearts. But if ye obey God and His Apostle, he will not allow you to lose any of your actions: for God is Indulgent, Merciful

qālati l-aʿrābu āmannā qul lam tu'minū walākin qūlū aslamnā walammā yadkhuli l-īmānu fī qulūbikum wa-in tuṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu lā yalit'kum min aʿmālikum shayan inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

49:15

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ثُمَّ لَمۡ یَرۡتَابُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ ۝١٥

John Medows Rodwell

The true believers are those only who believe in God and His Apostle, and afterwards doubt not; and who contend with their substance and their persons on the path of God. These are the sincere

innamā l-mu'minūna alladhīna āmanū bil-lahi warasūlihi thumma lam yartābū wajāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim fī sabīli l-lahi ulāika humu l-ṣādiqūn

49:16

قُلۡ أَتُعَلِّمُونَ ٱللَّهَ بِدِینِكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٦

John Medows Rodwell

SAY: Will ye teach God about your religion? when God knoweth whatever is in the Heavens and on the Earth: yea, God hath knowledge of all things

qul atuʿallimūna l-laha bidīnikum wal-lahu yaʿlamu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wal-lahu bikulli shayin ʿalīmu

49:17

یَمُنُّونَ عَلَیۡكَ أَنۡ أَسۡلَمُوا۟ۖ قُل لَّا تَمُنُّوا۟ عَلَیَّ إِسۡلَـٰمَكُمۖ بَلِ ٱللَّهُ یَمُنُّ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَنۡ هَدَىٰكُمۡ لِلۡإِیمَـٰنِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٧

John Medows Rodwell

They taunt thee with their having embraced Islam. SAY: Taunt me not with your having embraced Islam: God rather taunteth you with His having guided you to the faith: acknowledge this if ye are sincere

yamunnūna ʿalayka an aslamū qul lā tamunnū ʿalayya is'lāmakum bali l-lahu yamunnu ʿalaykum an hadākum lil'īmāni in kuntum ṣādiqīn

49:18

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ غَیۡبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِیرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٨

John Medows Rodwell

Verily, God knoweth the secrets of the Heavens and of the Earth: and God beholdeth what ye do

inna l-laha yaʿlamu ghayba l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wal-lahu baṣīrun bimā taʿmalūn
