1 Friendly Relations with Enemies

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّی وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ تُلۡقُونَ إِلَیۡهِم بِٱلۡمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَاۤءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ یُخۡرِجُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَإِیَّاكُمۡ أَن تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ رَبِّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ خَرَجۡتُمۡ جِهَـٰدࣰا فِی سَبِیلِی وَٱبۡتِغَاۤءَ مَرۡضَاتِیۚ تُسِرُّونَ إِلَیۡهِم بِٱلۡمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا۠ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَاۤ أَخۡفَیۡتُمۡ وَمَاۤ أَعۡلَنتُمۡۚ وَمَن یَفۡعَلۡهُ مِنكُمۡ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ سَوَاۤءَ ٱلسَّبِیلِ ۝١

O’ you who live by Faith, do not take My enemies and your enemies as trusted allies, demonstrating your own love for them when they have refused to yield to the Truth that has come to you, and have already driven the Messenger and yourselves out of your homes merely because you have affirmed your Faith in Allâh (Almighty) as your Lord. If it happens that you have gone forth to struggle in My cause and seek My good pleasure, (then do not take them as trusted allies). You secretly convey affection to them and I am Fully Aware of whatsoever you divulge and whatsoever you conceal. And whoever of you does this has truly deviated from the path of truth.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā tattakhidhū ʿaduwwī waʿaduwwakum awliyāa tul'qūna ilayhim bil-mawadati waqad kafarū bimā jāakum mina l-ḥaqi yukh'rijūna l-rasūla wa-iyyākum an tu'minū bil-lahi rabbikum in kuntum kharajtum jihādan fī sabīlī wa-ib'tighāa marḍātī tusirrūna ilayhim bil-mawadati wa-anā aʿlamu bimā akhfaytum wamā aʿlantum waman yafʿalhu minkum faqad ḍalla sawāa l-sabīl

إِن یَثۡقَفُوكُمۡ یَكُونُوا۟ لَكُمۡ أَعۡدَاۤءࣰ وَیَبۡسُطُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡكُمۡ أَیۡدِیَهُمۡ وَأَلۡسِنَتَهُم بِٱلسُّوۤءِ وَوَدُّوا۟ لَوۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٢

If they gain dominance over you, they will still regard you as their enemies; and they will stretch forth their hands and tongues against you with evil. They earnestly desire that you renounce your (Monotheistic) Faith.

in yathqafūkum yakūnū lakum aʿdāan wayabsuṭū ilaykum aydiyahum wa-alsinatahum bil-sūi wawaddū law takfurūn

لَن تَنفَعَكُمۡ أَرۡحَامُكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَوۡلَـٰدُكُمۡۚ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ یَفۡصِلُ بَیۡنَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٣

Neither your relatives nor your children will avail you on the Day of Resurrection (If they distract you from serving Allâh). He will judge among you. Lo! Allâh is the All-Seer of whatsoever you do.

lan tanfaʿakum arḥāmukum walā awlādukum yawma l-qiyāmati yafṣilu baynakum wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

قَدۡ كَانَتۡ لَكُمۡ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةࣱ فِیۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥۤ إِذۡ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوۡمِهِمۡ إِنَّا بُرَءَ ٰۤؤُا۟ مِنكُمۡ وَمِمَّا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرۡنَا بِكُمۡ وَبَدَا بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡعَدَ ٰوَةُ وَٱلۡبَغۡضَاۤءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحۡدَهُۥۤ إِلَّا قَوۡلَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ لِأَبِیهِ لَأَسۡتَغۡفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَیۡءࣲۖ رَّبَّنَا عَلَیۡكَ تَوَكَّلۡنَا وَإِلَیۡكَ أَنَبۡنَا وَإِلَیۡكَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤

There is an excellent pattern for you in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their own people: “Indeed, we disown you and the idols which you worship (& venerate) besides Allâh. We renounce you, and there has arisen between us animosity and hatred forever until you Adhere to Monotheistic Faith”- except the saying of Abraham to his father: "Indeed, I will pray for your Forgiveness, but I have no power to do aught for you against the (the punishment of) Allâh (if you persist in associating partners with Him). They prayed: "Our Lord, We depend on you with full trust. And unto You Alone do we tum in repentance. And for unto You is all journeys' end.

qad kānat lakum us'watun ḥasanatun fī ib'rāhīma wa-alladhīna maʿahu idh qālū liqawmihim innā buraāu minkum wamimmā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi kafarnā bikum wabadā baynanā wabaynakumu l-ʿadāwatu wal-baghḍāu abadan ḥattā tu'minū bil-lahi waḥdahu illā qawla ib'rāhīma li-abīhi la-astaghfiranna laka wamā amliku laka mina l-lahi min shayin rabbanā ʿalayka tawakkalnā wa-ilayka anabnā wa-ilayka l-maṣīr

رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا رَبَّنَاۤۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٥

MunirMezyed2023

Our Lord! Do not Make us a prey for those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth, and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, You, only You are the Almighty, the All-Wise."

rabbanā lā tajʿalnā fit'natan lilladhīna kafarū wa-igh'fir lanā rabbanā innaka anta l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

لَقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِیهِمۡ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةࣱ لِّمَن كَانَ یَرۡجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡیَوۡمَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَۚ وَمَن یَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡغَنِیُّ ٱلۡحَمِیدُ ۝٦

MunirMezyed2023

Verily, there is an excellent pattern in them for you, (O' monotheistic believers),- for whoever hopes (to attain the good pleasure of) Allâh and (to be delivered from His punishment) on the Last Day. Whoever falls away from the Faith (needs to know that) Allâh is indeed Self-Sufficient and the Owner of Praise.

laqad kāna lakum fīhim us'watun ḥasanatun liman kāna yarjū l-laha wal-yawma l-ākhira waman yatawalla fa-inna l-laha huwa l-ghaniyu l-ḥamīd

2 Friendly Relations with non-Muslims

۞ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَجۡعَلَ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلَّذِینَ عَادَیۡتُم مِّنۡهُم مَّوَدَّةࣰۚ وَٱللَّهُ قَدِیرࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٧

MunirMezyed2023

It might happen that Allâh will ordain love between you and those whom you hold as enemies. Allâh is All-powerful. He is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.

lā yanhākumu l-lahu ʿani alladhīna lam yuqātilūkum fī l-dīni walam yukh'rijūkum min diyārikum an tabarrūhum watuq'siṭū ilayhim inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-muq'siṭīn

لَّا یَنۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِینَ لَمۡ یُقَـٰتِلُوكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِ وَلَمۡ یُخۡرِجُوكُم مِّن دِیَـٰرِكُمۡ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمۡ وَتُقۡسِطُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِینَ ۝٨

Allâh does not forbid you to show kindness or to deal justly with those who have not fought against you on account of your religion or driven you forth from your homes. Indeed Allâh demonstrates His own love for those who are guided by truth.

La yanhakumu Allahu AAani allatheena lam yuqatilookum fee alddeeni walam yukhrijookum min diyarikum an tabarroohum watuqsitoo ilayhim inna Allaha yuhibbu almuqsiteena

إِنَّمَا یَنۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِینَ قَـٰتَلُوكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِ وَأَخۡرَجُوكُم مِّن دِیَـٰرِكُمۡ وَظَـٰهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ إِخۡرَاجِكُمۡ أَن تَوَلَّوۡهُمۡۚ وَمَن یَتَوَلَّهُمۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝٩

He only forbids you (to take for allies) those who fought against you on account of your faith and belief, expelled you from your homes and assisted others in your expulsion. Whoever takes them as trusted allies, these are the ones who have voluntarily and consciously abandoned the Full Knowledge of the Truth in favour of their own whims.

innamā yanhākumu l-lahu ʿani alladhīna qātalūkum fī l-dīni wa-akhrajūkum min diyārikum waẓāharū ʿalā ikh'rājikum an tawallawhum waman yatawallahum fa-ulāika humu l-ẓālimūn

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا جَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتُ مُهَـٰجِرَ ٰتࣲ فَٱمۡتَحِنُوهُنَّۖ ٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِإِیمَـٰنِهِنَّۖ فَإِنۡ عَلِمۡتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤۡمِنَـٰتࣲ فَلَا تَرۡجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِۖ لَا هُنَّ حِلࣱّ لَّهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّۖ وَءَاتُوهُم مَّاۤ أَنفَقُوا۟ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ إِذَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّۚ وَلَا تُمۡسِكُوا۟ بِعِصَمِ ٱلۡكَوَافِرِ وَسۡءَلُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنفَقۡتُمۡ وَلۡیَسۡءَلُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنفَقُوا۟ۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ حُكۡمُ ٱللَّهِ یَحۡكُمُ بَیۡنَكُمۡۖ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝١٠

O’ you who live by Faith! When the monotheistic women come to you as migrants, examine them (to see if they truly Adhere to Absolute Monotheism) - Allâh is perfectly aware of their faith- Once you find out that they Adhere to Absolute Monotheism (and live before the face of Allâh), do not send them back to the Polytheists. They are not lawful (wives) for the Polytheists, nor are the (Polytheists) lawful (husbands) for them. Now, therefore, pay the Polytheists the (amount of money) that which they have spent (on their dowries). You would not be at fault if you (desire to) marry them after having given them their dowries. Lo! (O’ Monotheistic Believers), do not hold matrimonial ties with the polytheistic women: ask for what you have spent (on their dowries), and let them ask for what the Polytheists have spent. That is the verdict of Allâh. He judges between you. Lo! Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā jāakumu l-mu'minātu muhājirātin fa-im'taḥinūhunna l-lahu aʿlamu biīmānihinna fa-in ʿalim'tumūhunna mu'minātin falā tarjiʿūhunna ilā l-kufāri lā hunna ḥillun lahum walā hum yaḥillūna lahunna waātūhum mā anfaqū walā junāḥa ʿalaykum an tankiḥūhunna idhā ātaytumūhunna ujūrahunna walā tum'sikū biʿiṣami l-kawāfiri wasalū mā anfaqtum walyasalū mā anfaqū dhālikum ḥuk'mu l-lahi yaḥkumu baynakum wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

وَإِن فَاتَكُمۡ شَیۡءࣱ مِّنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجِكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبۡتُمۡ فَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ذَهَبَتۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجُهُم مِّثۡلَ مَاۤ أَنفَقُوا۟ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنتُم بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١١

MunirMezyed2023

And if any of your wives ran away from you to the Polytheists and she did not give you back the dowry which you spent on her, then let the Muslims pay back such dowry from the property of the Polytheists which may come into their hands. So act piously towards Allâh in Whom you have affirmed your Faith.

wa-in fātakum shayon min azwājikum ilā l-kufāri faʿāqabtum faātū alladhīna dhahabat azwājuhum mith'la mā anfaqū wa-ittaqū l-laha alladhī antum bihi mu'minūn

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ إِذَا جَاۤءَكَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتُ یُبَایِعۡنَكَ عَلَىٰۤ أَن لَّا یُشۡرِكۡنَ بِٱللَّهِ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یَسۡرِقۡنَ وَلَا یَزۡنِینَ وَلَا یَقۡتُلۡنَ أَوۡلَـٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا یَأۡتِینَ بِبُهۡتَـٰنࣲ یَفۡتَرِینَهُۥ بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِنَّ وَأَرۡجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا یَعۡصِینَكَ فِی مَعۡرُوفࣲ فَبَایِعۡهُنَّ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٢

O’ Prophet! When the monotheistic women come to you to give you the pledge that they will not associate anything in worship with Allâh (Almighty), that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery, that they will not kill their own children, that they will not bring a calumny which they have forged of themselves, and that they will not disobey you in what is right, then accept their pledge and pray to Allâh to forgive them. Most assuredly Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu idhā jāaka l-mu'minātu yubāyiʿ'naka ʿalā an lā yush'rik'na bil-lahi shayan walā yasriq'na walā yaznīna walā yaqtul'na awlādahunna walā yatīna bibuh'tānin yaftarīnahu bayna aydīhinna wa-arjulihinna walā yaʿṣīnaka fī maʿrūfin fabāyiʿ'hunna wa-is'taghfir lahunna l-laha inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ قَوۡمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ قَدۡ یَىِٕسُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ كَمَا یَىِٕسَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡقُبُورِ ۝١٣

MunirMezyed2023

O’ you who live by Faith! Make no friendship with a folk who incurred the wrath of Allâh! Indeed, they have despaired of the Hereafter as those who have no Faith in Allâh despaired of those in the graves.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā tatawallaw qawman ghaḍiba l-lahu ʿalayhim qad ya-isū mina l-ākhirati kamā ya-isa l-kufāru min aṣḥābi l-qubūr
