1 Supplementary Divorce Rules

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ إِذَا طَلَّقۡتُمُ ٱلنِّسَاۤءَ فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ وَأَحۡصُوا۟ ٱلۡعِدَّةَۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡۖ لَا تُخۡرِجُوهُنَّ مِنۢ بُیُوتِهِنَّ وَلَا یَخۡرُجۡنَ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَأۡتِینَ بِفَـٰحِشَةࣲ مُّبَیِّنَةࣲۚ وَتِلۡكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَن یَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ ظَلَمَ نَفۡسَهُۥۚ لَا تَدۡرِی لَعَلَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحۡدِثُ بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ أَمۡرࣰا ۝١

Ali Quli Qara'i

O Prophet! When you divorce women, divorce them at [the conclusion of] their term and calculate the term, and be wary of Allah, your Lord. Do not turn them out from their houses, nor shall they go out, unless they commit a gross indecency. These are Allah’s bounds, and whoever transgresses the bounds of Allah certainly wrongs himself. You never know maybe Allah will bring off something new later on

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu idhā ṭallaqtumu l-nisāa faṭalliqūhunna liʿiddatihinna wa-aḥṣū l-ʿidata wa-ittaqū l-laha rabbakum lā tukh'rijūhunna min buyūtihinna walā yakhruj'na illā an yatīna bifāḥishatin mubayyinatin watil'ka ḥudūdu l-lahi waman yataʿadda ḥudūda l-lahi faqad ẓalama nafsahu lā tadrī laʿalla l-laha yuḥ'dithu baʿda dhālika amra

فَإِذَا بَلَغۡنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمۡسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفٍ أَوۡ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفࣲ وَأَشۡهِدُوا۟ ذَوَیۡ عَدۡلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَـٰدَةَ لِلَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ یُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِۚ وَمَن یَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ یَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مَخۡرَجࣰا ۝٢

Ali Quli Qara'i

Then, when they have completed their term, either retain them honourably or separate from them honourably, and take the witness of two fair men from among yourselves, and bear witness for the sake of Allah. To [comply with] this is advised whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever is wary of Allah, He shall make a way out for him

fa-idhā balaghna ajalahunna fa-amsikūhunna bimaʿrūfin aw fāriqūhunna bimaʿrūfin wa-ashhidū dhaway ʿadlin minkum wa-aqīmū l-shahādata lillahi dhālikum yūʿaẓu bihi man kāna yu'minu bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri waman yattaqi l-laha yajʿal lahu makhraja

وَیَرۡزُقۡهُ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَحۡتَسِبُۚ وَمَن یَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمۡرِهِۦۚ قَدۡ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدۡرࣰا ۝٣

Ali Quli Qara'i

and provide for him from whence he does not reckon. And whoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Indeed Allah carries through His command. Certainly Allah has set a measure for everything

wayarzuq'hu min ḥaythu lā yaḥtasibu waman yatawakkal ʿalā l-lahi fahuwa ḥasbuhu inna l-laha bālighu amrihi qad jaʿala l-lahu likulli shayin qadra

وَٱلَّـٰۤءِی یَىِٕسۡنَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَحِیضِ مِن نِّسَاۤىِٕكُمۡ إِنِ ٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَـٰثَةُ أَشۡهُرࣲ وَٱلَّـٰۤءِی لَمۡ یَحِضۡنَۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰتُ ٱلۡأَحۡمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن یَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ وَمَن یَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ یَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ یُسۡرࣰا ۝٤

Ali Quli Qara'i

As for those of your wives who do not hope to have menses, should you have any doubts, their term shall be three months, and for those [as well] who have not yet had menses. As for those who are pregnant, their term shall be until they deliver. And whoever is wary of Allah, He shall grant him ease in his affairs

wa-allāī ya-is'na mina l-maḥīḍi min nisāikum ini ir'tabtum faʿiddatuhunna thalāthatu ashhurin wa-allāī lam yaḥiḍ'na wa-ulātu l-aḥmāli ajaluhunna an yaḍaʿna ḥamlahunna waman yattaqi l-laha yajʿal lahu min amrihi yus'ra

ذَ ٰلِكَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ أَنزَلَهُۥۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡۚ وَمَن یَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ یُكَفِّرۡ عَنۡهُ سَیِّءَاتِهِۦ وَیُعۡظِمۡ لَهُۥۤ أَجۡرًا ۝٥

Ali Quli Qara'i

That is the ordinance of Allah which He has sent down to you, and whoever is wary of Allah, He shall absolve him of his misdeeds and give him a great reward

dhālika amru l-lahi anzalahu ilaykum waman yattaqi l-laha yukaffir ʿanhu sayyiātihi wayuʿ'ẓim lahu ajra

أَسۡكِنُوهُنَّ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ سَكَنتُم مِّن وُجۡدِكُمۡ وَلَا تُضَاۤرُّوهُنَّ لِتُضَیِّقُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِنَّۚ وَإِن كُنَّ أُو۟لَـٰتِ حَمۡلࣲ فَأَنفِقُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِنَّ حَتَّىٰ یَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ فَإِنۡ أَرۡضَعۡنَ لَكُمۡ فَءَاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَأۡتَمِرُوا۟ بَیۡنَكُم بِمَعۡرُوفࣲۖ وَإِن تَعَاسَرۡتُمۡ فَسَتُرۡضِعُ لَهُۥۤ أُخۡرَىٰ ۝٦

Ali Quli Qara'i

House them where you live, in accordance with your means, and do not harass them to put them in straits, and should they be pregnant, maintain them until they deliver. Then, if they suckle [the baby] for you, give them their wages and consult together honourably; but if you make things difficult for each other, then another woman will suckle [the baby] for him

askinūhunna min ḥaythu sakantum min wuj'dikum walā tuḍārrūhunna lituḍayyiqū ʿalayhinna wa-in kunna ulāti ḥamlin fa-anfiqū ʿalayhinna ḥattā yaḍaʿna ḥamlahunna fa-in arḍaʿna lakum faātūhunna ujūrahunna watamirū baynakum bimaʿrūfin wa-in taʿāsartum fasatur'ḍiʿu lahu ukh'r

لِیُنفِقۡ ذُو سَعَةࣲ مِّن سَعَتِهِۦۖ وَمَن قُدِرَ عَلَیۡهِ رِزۡقُهُۥ فَلۡیُنفِقۡ مِمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُۚ لَا یُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا مَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهَاۚ سَیَجۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بَعۡدَ عُسۡرࣲ یُسۡرࣰا ۝٧

Ali Quli Qara'i

Let the affluent man spend out of his affluence, and let he whose provision has been tightened spend out of what Allah has given him. Allah does not task any soul except [according to] what He has given it. Allah will bring about ease after hardship

liyunfiq dhū saʿatin min saʿatihi waman qudira ʿalayhi riz'quhu falyunfiq mimmā ātāhu l-lahu lā yukallifu l-lahu nafsan illā mā ātāhā sayajʿalu l-lahu baʿda ʿus'rin yus'ra

2 Makkah warned

وَكَأَیِّن مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ عَتَتۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبۡنَـٰهَا حِسَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَعَذَّبۡنَـٰهَا عَذَابࣰا نُّكۡرࣰا ۝٨

Ali Quli Qara'i

How many a town defied the command of its Lord and His apostles, then We called it to a severe account and punished it with a dire punishment

waka-ayyin min qaryatin ʿatat ʿan amri rabbihā warusulihi faḥāsabnāhā ḥisāban shadīdan waʿadhabnāhā ʿadhāban nuk'ra

فَذَاقَتۡ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهَا وَكَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ أَمۡرِهَا خُسۡرًا ۝٩

Ali Quli Qara'i

So it tasted the evil consequences of its conduct, and the outcome of its conduct was ruin

fadhāqat wabāla amrihā wakāna ʿāqibatu amrihā khus'ra

أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰاۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ یَـٰۤأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ قَدۡ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَیۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرࣰا ۝١٠

Ali Quli Qara'i

Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. So be wary of Allah, O you who possess intellect and have faith! Allah has already sent down to you a reminder

aʿadda l-lahu lahum ʿadhāban shadīdan fa-ittaqū l-laha yāulī l-albābi alladhīna āmanū qad anzala l-lahu ilaykum dhik'ra

رَّسُولࣰا یَتۡلُوا۟ عَلَیۡكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ مُبَیِّنَـٰتࣲ لِّیُخۡرِجَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِۚ وَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَیَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحࣰا یُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۖ قَدۡ أَحۡسَنَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ رِزۡقًا ۝١١

Ali Quli Qara'i

an apostle reciting to you the manifest signs of Allah that He may bring out those who have faith and do righteous deeds from darkness into light. And whoever has faith in Allah and does righteous deeds, He shall admit him into gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever. Allah has certainly granted him an excellent provision

rasūlan yatlū ʿalaykum āyāti l-lahi mubayyinātin liyukh'rija alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri waman yu'min bil-lahi wayaʿmal ṣāliḥan yud'khil'hu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan qad aḥsana l-lahu lahu riz'qa

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ سَبۡعَ سَمَـٰوَ ٰتࣲ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِثۡلَهُنَّۖ یَتَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ بَیۡنَهُنَّ لِتَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عِلۡمَۢا ۝١٢

Ali Quli Qara'i

It is Allah who has created seven heavens, and of the earth [a number] similar to them. The command gradually descends through them, that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah comprehends all things in knowledge

al-lahu alladhī khalaqa sabʿa samāwātin wamina l-arḍi mith'lahunna yatanazzalu l-amru baynahunna litaʿlamū anna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun wa-anna l-laha qad aḥāṭa bikulli shayin ʿil'ma
