Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure

They carved out dwellings in the mountains, and lived in security

The Poets 26:149
Verb
وَتَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُیُوتࣰا فَـٰرِهِینَ ١٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill

carving your fine houses from the mountains

Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ ٩٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve

but he said, ‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands

He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carv
وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ عَادࣲ وَبَوَّأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورࣰا وَتَنۡحِتُونَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ بُیُوتࣰاۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِینَ ٧٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And remember when He made you successors after the 'Aad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allah and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
Abdel Haleem:
Remember how He made you heirs after 'Ad and settled you in the land to build yourselves castles on its plains and carve houses out of the mountains: remember God’s blessings and do not spread corruption in the land,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And remember how He made you viceroys after A'ad and gave you station in the earth. Ye choose castles in the plains and hew the mountains into dwellings. So remember (all) the bounties of Allah and do not evil, making mischief in the earth
