19 ٱلَّذِینَ یَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجࣰا وَهُم بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١٩ alladhīna yaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūn who hinder others from God’s path, trying to make it crooked, and deny the life to come 20 أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَمۡ یَكُونُوا۟ مُعۡجِزِینَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَۘ یُضَـٰعَفُ لَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٢٠ ulāika lam yakūnū muʿ'jizīna fī l-arḍi wamā kāna lahum min dūni l-lahi min awliyāa yuḍāʿafu lahumu l-ʿadhābu mā kānū yastaṭīʿūna l-samʿa wamā kānū yub'ṣirūn They will not escape on earth, and there will be no one other than God to protect them. Their punishment will be doubled. They could not hear, and they did not see 21 أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٢١ ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn It is they who will have lost their souls, and what they invented will have deserted them 22 لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلۡأَخۡسَرُونَ ۝٢٢ lā jarama annahum fī l-ākhirati humu l-akhsarūn There is no doubt they will be the ones to lose most in the life to come
23 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَأَخۡبَتُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٢٣ inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti wa-akhbatū ilā rabbihim ulāika aṣḥābu l-janati hum fīhā khālidūn But those who believed, did good deeds, and humbled themselves before their Lord will be companions in Paradise and there they will stay
24 ۞ مَثَلُ ٱلۡفَرِیقَیۡنِ كَٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡأَصَمِّ وَٱلۡبَصِیرِ وَٱلسَّمِیعِۚ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِیَانِ مَثَلًاۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٤ mathalu l-farīqayni kal-aʿmā wal-aṣami wal-baṣīri wal-samīʿi hal yastawiyāni mathalan afalā tadhakkarūn These two groups are like the blind and the deaf as compared with those who can see and hear well: can they be alike? How can you not take heed 25 وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنِّی لَكُمۡ نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝٢٥ walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi innī lakum nadhīrun mubīnu We sent Noah to his people to say, ‘I have come to you to give a clear warning 26 أَن لَّا تَعۡبُدُوۤا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٢٦ an lā taʿbudū illā l-laha innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin alīmi worship no one but God. I fear you will have torment on a painful Day.’ 27 فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا نَرَىٰكَ إِلَّا بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَنَا وَمَا نَرَىٰكَ ٱتَّبَعَكَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِیَ ٱلرَّأۡیِ وَمَا نَرَىٰ لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡنَا مِن فَضۡلِۭ بَلۡ نَظُنُّكُمۡ كَـٰذِبِینَ ۝٢٧ faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā narāka illā basharan mith'lanā wamā narāka ittabaʿaka illā alladhīna hum arādhilunā bādiya l-rayi wamā narā lakum ʿalaynā min faḍlin bal naẓunnukum kādhibīn But the prominent disbelievers among his people said, ‘We can see that you are nothing but a mortal like ourselves, and it is clear to see that only the vilest among us follow you. We cannot see how you are any better than we are. In fact, we think you are a liar.’
