Verse 18:96 in Context

92 ثُمَّ أَتۡبَعَ سَبَبًا ۝٩٢ thumma atbaʿa sababa He travelled on 93 حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَیۡنَ ٱلسَّدَّیۡنِ وَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمَا قَوۡمࣰا لَّا یَكَادُونَ یَفۡقَهُونَ قَوۡلࣰا ۝٩٣ ḥattā idhā balagha bayna l-sadayni wajada min dūnihimā qawman lā yakādūna yafqahūna qawla then, when he reached a place between two mountain barriers, he found beside them a people who could barely understand him 94 قَالُوا۟ یَـٰذَا ٱلۡقَرۡنَیۡنِ إِنَّ یَأۡجُوجَ وَمَأۡجُوجَ مُفۡسِدُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَهَلۡ نَجۡعَلُ لَكَ خَرۡجًا عَلَىٰۤ أَن تَجۡعَلَ بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَهُمۡ سَدࣰّا ۝٩٤ qālū yādhā l-qarnayni inna yajūja wamajūja muf'sidūna fī l-arḍi fahal najʿalu laka kharjan ʿalā an tajʿala baynanā wabaynahum sadda They said, ‘Dhu ’l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ruining this land. Will you build a barrier between them and us if we pay you a tribute?’ 95 قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّی فِیهِ رَبِّی خَیۡرࣱ فَأَعِینُونِی بِقُوَّةٍ أَجۡعَلۡ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَهُمۡ رَدۡمًا ۝٩٥ qāla mā makkannī fīhi rabbī khayrun fa-aʿīnūnī biquwwatin ajʿal baynakum wabaynahum radma He answered, ‘The power my Lord has given me is better than any tribute, but if you lend me your strength, I will put up a fortification between you and them
96 ءَاتُونِی زُبَرَ ٱلۡحَدِیدِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَیۡنَ ٱلصَّدَفَیۡنِ قَالَ ٱنفُخُوا۟ۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَعَلَهُۥ نَارࣰا قَالَ ءَاتُونِیۤ أُفۡرِغۡ عَلَیۡهِ قِطۡرࣰا ۝٩٦ ātūnī zubara l-ḥadīdi ḥattā idhā sāwā bayna l-ṣadafayni qāla unfukhū ḥattā idhā jaʿalahu nāran qāla ātūnī uf'righ ʿalayhi qiṭ'ra bring me lumps of iron!’ and then, when he had filled the gap between the two mountainsides [he said], ‘Work your bellows!’ and then, when he had made it glow like fire, he said, ‘Bring me molten metal to pour over it!’
97 فَمَا ٱسۡطَـٰعُوۤا۟ أَن یَظۡهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ لَهُۥ نَقۡبࣰا ۝٩٧ famā is'ṭāʿū an yaẓharūhu wamā is'taṭāʿū lahu naqba Their enemies could not scale the barrier, nor could they pierce it 98 قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَحۡمَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّیۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّی جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّاۤءَۖ وَكَانَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّی حَقࣰّا ۝٩٨ qāla hādhā raḥmatun min rabbī fa-idhā jāa waʿdu rabbī jaʿalahu dakkāa wakāna waʿdu rabbī ḥaqqa and he said, ‘This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord’s promise is fulfilled, He will raze this barrier to the ground: my Lord’s promise always comes true.’ 99 ۞ وَتَرَكۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَمُوجُ فِی بَعۡضࣲۖ وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَجَمَعۡنَـٰهُمۡ جَمۡعࣰا ۝٩٩ wataraknā baʿḍahum yawma-idhin yamūju fī baʿḍin wanufikha fī l-ṣūri fajamaʿnāhum jamʿa On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together 100 وَعَرَضۡنَا جَهَنَّمَ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَرۡضًا ۝١٠٠ waʿaraḍnā jahannama yawma-idhin lil'kāfirīna ʿarḍa We shall show Hell to the disbelievers
