15 ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَهۡزِئُ بِهِمۡ وَیَمُدُّهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١٥ al-lahu yastahzi-u bihim wayamudduhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn God is mocking them, and allowing them more slack to wander blindly in their insolence 16 أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱشۡتَرَوُا۟ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَـٰرَتُهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١٦ ulāika alladhīna ish'tarawū l-ḍalālata bil-hudā famā rabiḥat tijāratuhum wamā kānū muh'tadīn They have bought error in exchange for guidance, so their trade reaps no profit, and they are not rightly guided 17 مَثَلُهُمۡ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِی ٱسۡتَوۡقَدَ نَارࣰا فَلَمَّاۤ أَضَاۤءَتۡ مَا حَوۡلَهُۥ ذَهَبَ ٱللَّهُ بِنُورِهِمۡ وَتَرَكَهُمۡ فِی ظُلُمَـٰتࣲ لَّا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٧ mathaluhum kamathali alladhī is'tawqada nāran falammā aḍāat mā ḥawlahu dhahaba l-lahu binūrihim watarakahum fī ẓulumātin lā yub'ṣirūn They are like people who [labour to] kindle a fire: when it lights up everything around them, God takes away all their light, leaving them in utter darkness, unable to see 18 صُمُّۢ بُكۡمٌ عُمۡیࣱ فَهُمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٨ ṣummun buk'mun ʿum'yun fahum lā yarjiʿūn deaf, dumb, and blind: they will never return
19 أَوۡ كَصَیِّبࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فِیهِ ظُلُمَـٰتࣱ وَرَعۡدࣱ وَبَرۡقࣱ یَجۡعَلُونَ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمۡ فِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِم مِّنَ ٱلصَّوَ ٰعِقِ حَذَرَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۚ وَٱللَّهُ مُحِیطُۢ بِٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٩ aw kaṣayyibin mina l-samāi fīhi ẓulumātun waraʿdun wabarqun yajʿalūna aṣābiʿahum fī ādhānihim mina l-ṣawāʿiqi ḥadhara l-mawti wal-lahu muḥīṭun bil-kāfirīn Or [like people who, under] a cloudburst from the sky, with its darkness, thunder, and lightning, put their fingers into their ears to keep out the thunderclaps for fear of death- God surrounds the disbelievers
20 یَكَادُ ٱلۡبَرۡقُ یَخۡطَفُ أَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡۖ كُلَّمَاۤ أَضَاۤءَ لَهُم مَّشَوۡا۟ فِیهِ وَإِذَاۤ أَظۡلَمَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ قَامُوا۟ۚ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمۡعِهِمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٢٠ yakādu l-barqu yakhṭafu abṣārahum kullamā aḍāa lahum mashaw fīhi wa-idhā aẓlama ʿalayhim qāmū walaw shāa l-lahu ladhahaba bisamʿihim wa-abṣārihim inna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru The lightning almost snatches away their sight: whenever it crashes o 21 یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُمۡ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ ۝٢١ yāayyuhā l-nāsu uʿ'budū rabbakumu alladhī khalaqakum wa-alladhīna min qablikum laʿallakum tattaqūn People, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may be mindful [of Him] 22 ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِرَ ٰشࣰا وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ بِنَاۤءࣰ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَخۡرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ رِزۡقࣰا لَّكُمۡۖ فَلَا تَجۡعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادࣰا وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٢ alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-arḍa firāshan wal-samāa bināan wa-anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhraja bihi mina l-thamarāti riz'qan lakum falā tajʿalū lillahi andādan wa-antum taʿlamūn who spread out the earth for you and built the sky; who sent water down from it and with that water produced things for your sustenance. Do not, knowing this, set up rivals to God 23 وَإِن كُنتُمۡ فِی رَیۡبࣲ مِّمَّا نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِنَا فَأۡتُوا۟ بِسُورَةࣲ مِّن مِّثۡلِهِۦ وَٱدۡعُوا۟ شُهَدَاۤءَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٢٣ wa-in kuntum fī raybin mimmā nazzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā fatū bisūratin min mith'lihi wa-id'ʿū shuhadāakum min dūni l-lahi in kuntum ṣādiqīn If you have doubts about the revelation We have sent down to Our servant, then produce a single sura like it- enlist whatever supporters you have other than God- if you truly [think you can]
