189 ۞ یَسۡءَلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَهِلَّةِۖ قُلۡ هِیَ مَوَ ٰقِیتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَٱلۡحَجِّۗ وَلَیۡسَ ٱلۡبِرُّ بِأَن تَأۡتُوا۟ ٱلۡبُیُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلۡبِرَّ مَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰۗ وَأۡتُوا۟ ٱلۡبُیُوتَ مِنۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبِهَاۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٨٩ yasalūnaka ʿani l-ahilati qul hiya mawāqītu lilnnāsi wal-ḥaji walaysa l-biru bi-an tatū l-buyūta min ẓuhūrihā walākinna l-bira mani ittaqā watū l-buyūta min abwābihā wa-ittaqū l-laha laʿallakum tuf'liḥūn They ask you [Prophet] about crescent moons. Say, ‘They show the times appointed for people, and for the pilgrimage.’ Goodness does not consist of entering houses by the back [door]; the truly good person is the one who is mindful of God. So enter your houses by their [main] doors and be mindful of God so that you may prosper 190 وَقَـٰتِلُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِینَ یُقَـٰتِلُونَكُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡتَدُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدِینَ ۝١٩٠ waqātilū fī sabīli l-lahi alladhīna yuqātilūnakum walā taʿtadū inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-muʿ'tadīn Fight in God’s cause against those who fight you, but do not overstep the limits: God does not love those who overstep the limits 191 وَٱقۡتُلُوهُمۡ حَیۡثُ ثَقِفۡتُمُوهُمۡ وَأَخۡرِجُوهُم مِّنۡ حَیۡثُ أَخۡرَجُوكُمۡۚ وَٱلۡفِتۡنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ ٱلۡقَتۡلِۚ وَلَا تُقَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ حَتَّىٰ یُقَـٰتِلُوكُمۡ فِیهِۖ فَإِن قَـٰتَلُوكُمۡ فَٱقۡتُلُوهُمۡۗ كَذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٩١ wa-uq'tulūhum ḥaythu thaqif'tumūhum wa-akhrijūhum min ḥaythu akhrajūkum wal-fit'natu ashaddu mina l-qatli walā tuqātilūhum ʿinda l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi ḥattā yuqātilūkum fīhi fa-in qātalūkum fa-uq'tulūhum kadhālika jazāu l-kāfirīn Kill them wherever you encounter them, and drive them out from where they drove you out, for persecution is more serious than killing. Do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they fight you there. If they do fight you, kill them- this is what such disbelievers deserve 192 فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوۡا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٩٢ fa-ini intahaw fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu but if they stop, then God is most forgiving and merciful

193 وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَیَكُونَ ٱلدِّینُ لِلَّهِۖ فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوۡا۟ فَلَا عُدۡوَ ٰنَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٩٣ waqātilūhum ḥattā lā takūna fit'natun wayakūna l-dīnu lillahi fa-ini intahaw falā ʿud'wāna illā ʿalā l-ẓālimīn Fight them until there is no more persecution, and worship is devoted to God. If they cease hostilities, there can be no [further] hostility, except towards aggressors

194 ٱلشَّهۡرُ ٱلۡحَرَامُ بِٱلشَّهۡرِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ وَٱلۡحُرُمَـٰتُ قِصَاصࣱۚ فَمَنِ ٱعۡتَدَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَٱعۡتَدُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ بِمِثۡلِ مَا ٱعۡتَدَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٩٤ al-shahru l-ḥarāmu bil-shahri l-ḥarāmi wal-ḥurumātu qiṣāṣun famani iʿ'tadā ʿalaykum fa-iʿ'tadū ʿalayhi bimith'li mā iʿ'tadā ʿalaykum wa-ittaqū l-laha wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha maʿa l-mutaqīn A sacred month for a sacred month: violation of sanctity [calls for] fair retribution. So if anyone commits aggression against you, attack him as he attacked you, but be mindful of God, and know that He is with those who are mindful of Him 195 وَأَنفِقُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تُلۡقُوا۟ بِأَیۡدِیكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلتَّهۡلُكَةِ وَأَحۡسِنُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٩٥ wa-anfiqū fī sabīli l-lahi walā tul'qū bi-aydīkum ilā l-tahlukati wa-aḥsinū inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-muḥ'sinīn Spend in God’s cause: do not contribute to your destruction with your own hands, but do good, for God loves those who do good 196 وَأَتِمُّوا۟ ٱلۡحَجَّ وَٱلۡعُمۡرَةَ لِلَّهِۚ فَإِنۡ أُحۡصِرۡتُمۡ فَمَا ٱسۡتَیۡسَرَ مِنَ ٱلۡهَدۡیِۖ وَلَا تَحۡلِقُوا۟ رُءُوسَكُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَبۡلُغَ ٱلۡهَدۡیُ مَحِلَّهُۥۚ فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِیضًا أَوۡ بِهِۦۤ أَذࣰى مِّن رَّأۡسِهِۦ فَفِدۡیَةࣱ مِّن صِیَامٍ أَوۡ صَدَقَةٍ أَوۡ نُسُكࣲۚ فَإِذَاۤ أَمِنتُمۡ فَمَن تَمَتَّعَ بِٱلۡعُمۡرَةِ إِلَى ٱلۡحَجِّ فَمَا ٱسۡتَیۡسَرَ مِنَ ٱلۡهَدۡیِۚ فَمَن لَّمۡ یَجِدۡ فَصِیَامُ ثَلَـٰثَةِ أَیَّامࣲ فِی ٱلۡحَجِّ وَسَبۡعَةٍ إِذَا رَجَعۡتُمۡۗ تِلۡكَ عَشَرَةࣱ كَامِلَةࣱۗ ذَ ٰلِكَ لِمَن لَّمۡ یَكُنۡ أَهۡلُهُۥ حَاضِرِی ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝١٩٦ wa-atimmū l-ḥaja wal-ʿum'rata lillahi fa-in uḥ'ṣir'tum famā is'taysara mina l-hadyi walā taḥliqū ruūsakum ḥattā yablugha l-hadyu maḥillahu faman kāna minkum marīḍan aw bihi adhan min rasihi fafid'yatun min ṣiyāmin aw ṣadaqatin aw nusukin fa-idhā amintum faman tamattaʿa bil-ʿum'rati ilā l-ḥaji famā is'taysara mina l-hadyi faman lam yajid faṣiyāmu thalāthati ayyāmin fī l-ḥaji wasabʿatin idhā rajaʿtum til'ka ʿasharatun kāmilatun dhālika liman lam yakun ahluhu ḥāḍirī l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi wa-ittaqū l-laha wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb Complete the pilgrimages, major and minor, for the sake of God. If you are prevented [from doing so], then [send] whatever offering for sacrifice you can afford, and do not shave your headsuntil the offering has reached the place of sacrifice. If any of you is ill, or has an ailment of the scalp, he should compensate by fasting, or feeding the poor, or offering sacrifice. When you are in safety, anyone wishing to take a break between the minor pilgrimage and the major one must make whatever offering he can afford. If he lacks the means, he should fast for three days during the pilgrimage, and seven days on his return, making ten days in all. This applies to those whose household is not near the Sacred Mosque. Always be mindful of God, and be aware that He is stern in His retribution 197 ٱلۡحَجُّ أَشۡهُرࣱ مَّعۡلُومَـٰتࣱۚ فَمَن فَرَضَ فِیهِنَّ ٱلۡحَجَّ فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِی ٱلۡحَجِّۗ وَمَا تَفۡعَلُوا۟ مِنۡ خَیۡرࣲ یَعۡلَمۡهُ ٱللَّهُۗ وَتَزَوَّدُوا۟ فَإِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٱلزَّادِ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَٱتَّقُونِ یَـٰۤأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝١٩٧ al-ḥaju ashhurun maʿlūmātun faman faraḍa fīhinna l-ḥaja falā rafatha walā fusūqa walā jidāla fī l-ḥaji wamā tafʿalū min khayrin yaʿlamhu l-lahu watazawwadū fa-inna khayra l-zādi l-taqwā wa-ittaqūni yāulī l-albāb The pilgrimage takes place during the prescribed months. There should be no indecent speech, misbehaviour, or quarrelling for anyone undertaking the pilgrimage- whatever good you do, God is well aware of it. Provide well for yourselves: the best provision is to be mindful of God- always be mindful of Me, you who have understanding
