Verse 20:9 in Context

5 ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ ۝٥ al-raḥmānu ʿalā l-ʿarshi is'taw the Lord of Mercy, established on the throne 6 لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحۡتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ ۝٦ lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wamā baynahumā wamā taḥta l-thar Everything in the heavens and on earth, everything between them, everything beneath the soil, belongs to Him 7 وَإِن تَجۡهَرۡ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ فَإِنَّهُۥ یَعۡلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ وَأَخۡفَى ۝٧ wa-in tajhar bil-qawli fa-innahu yaʿlamu l-sira wa-akhf Whatever you may say aloud, He knows what you keep secret and what is even more hidden 8 ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ لَهُ ٱلۡأَسۡمَاۤءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ ۝٨ al-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa lahu l-asmāu l-ḥus'n God––there is no god but Him––the most excellent names belong to Him
9 وَهَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِیثُ مُوسَىٰۤ ۝٩ wahal atāka ḥadīthu mūs Has the story of Moses come to you [Prophet]
10 إِذۡ رَءَا نَارࣰا فَقَالَ لِأَهۡلِهِ ٱمۡكُثُوۤا۟ إِنِّیۤ ءَانَسۡتُ نَارࣰا لَّعَلِّیۤ ءَاتِیكُم مِّنۡهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوۡ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُدࣰى ۝١٠ idh raā nāran faqāla li-ahlihi um'kuthū innī ānastu nāran laʿallī ātīkum min'hā biqabasin aw ajidu ʿalā l-nāri huda He saw a fire and said to his people, ‘Stay here––I can see a fire. Maybe I can bring you a flaming brand from it or find some guidance there.’ 11 فَلَمَّاۤ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِیَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ ۝١١ falammā atāhā nūdiya yāmūs When he came to the fire, he was summoned, ‘Moses 12 إِنِّیۤ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكَ فَٱخۡلَعۡ نَعۡلَیۡكَ إِنَّكَ بِٱلۡوَادِ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسِ طُوࣰى ۝١٢ innī anā rabbuka fa-ikh'laʿ naʿlayka innaka bil-wādi l-muqadasi ṭuwa I am your Lord. Take off your shoes: you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa 13 وَأَنَا ٱخۡتَرۡتُكَ فَٱسۡتَمِعۡ لِمَا یُوحَىٰۤ ۝١٣ wa-anā ikh'tartuka fa-is'tamiʿ limā yūḥ I have chosen you, so listen to what is being revealed
