Verse 28:70 in Context

66 فَعَمِیَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡأَنۢبَاۤءُ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فَهُمۡ لَا یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٦٦ faʿamiyat ʿalayhimu l-anbāu yawma-idhin fahum lā yatasāalūn All arguments will seem obscure to them on that Day; they will not be able to consult one another 67 فَأَمَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَعَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحِینَ ۝٦٧ fa-ammā man tāba waāmana waʿamila ṣāliḥan faʿasā an yakūna mina l-muf'liḥīn Yet anyone who has repented, believed, and done good deeds can hope to find himself among the successful 68 وَرَبُّكَ یَخۡلُقُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ وَیَخۡتَارُۗ مَا كَانَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخِیَرَةُۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٦٨ warabbuka yakhluqu mā yashāu wayakhtāru mā kāna lahumu l-khiyaratu sub'ḥāna l-lahi wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn Your Lord creates what He pleases and chooses those He will- they have no choice- so glory be to God, and may He be exalted above the partners they ascribe to Him 69 وَرَبُّكَ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تُكِنُّ صُدُورُهُمۡ وَمَا یُعۡلِنُونَ ۝٦٩ warabbuka yaʿlamu mā tukinnu ṣudūruhum wamā yuʿ'linūn Your Lord knows what their hearts conceal and what they reveal

70 وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ لَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ فِی ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَلَهُ ٱلۡحُكۡمُ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٧٠ wahuwa l-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa lahu l-ḥamdu fī l-ūlā wal-ākhirati walahu l-ḥuk'mu wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn He is God; there is no god but Him; all praise belongs to Him in this world and the next; His is the Judgement; and to Him you shall be returned

71 قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ سَرۡمَدًا إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ مَنۡ إِلَـٰهٌ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِ یَأۡتِیكُم بِضِیَاۤءٍۚ أَفَلَا تَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٧١ qul ara-aytum in jaʿala l-lahu ʿalaykumu al-layla sarmadan ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man ilāhun ghayru l-lahi yatīkum biḍiyāin afalā tasmaʿūn Say [Prophet], ‘Just think, if God were to cast perpetual night over you until the Day of Resurrection, what god other than He could bring you light? Do you not listen?’ 72 قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلنَّهَارَ سَرۡمَدًا إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ مَنۡ إِلَـٰهٌ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِ یَأۡتِیكُم بِلَیۡلࣲ تَسۡكُنُونَ فِیهِۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٧٢ qul ara-aytum in jaʿala l-lahu ʿalaykumu l-nahāra sarmadan ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man ilāhun ghayru l-lahi yatīkum bilaylin taskunūna fīhi afalā tub'ṣirūn Say, ‘Just think, if God were to cast perpetual day over you until the Day of Resurrection, what god other than He could give you night in which to rest? Do you not see 73 وَمِن رَّحۡمَتِهِۦ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لِتَسۡكُنُوا۟ فِیهِ وَلِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٣ wamin raḥmatihi jaʿala lakumu al-layla wal-nahāra litaskunū fīhi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūn In His mercy He has given you night and day, so that you may rest and seek His bounty and be grateful.’ 74 وَیَوۡمَ یُنَادِیهِمۡ فَیَقُولُ أَیۡنَ شُرَكَاۤءِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ كُنتُمۡ تَزۡعُمُونَ ۝٧٤ wayawma yunādīhim fayaqūlu ayna shurakāiya alladhīna kuntum tazʿumūn The Day will come when He will call out to them, saying, ‘Where are the partners you claimed for Me?’
