43 یَـٰمَرۡیَمُ ٱقۡنُتِی لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسۡجُدِی وَٱرۡكَعِی مَعَ ٱلرَّ ٰكِعِینَ ۝٤٣ yāmaryamu uq'nutī lirabbiki wa-us'judī wa-ir'kaʿī maʿa l-rākiʿīn Mary, be devout to your Lord, prostrate yourself in worship, bow down with those who pray.’ 44 ذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَاۤءِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ نُوحِیهِ إِلَیۡكَۚ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَیۡهِمۡ إِذۡ یُلۡقُونَ أَقۡلَـٰمَهُمۡ أَیُّهُمۡ یَكۡفُلُ مَرۡیَمَ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَیۡهِمۡ إِذۡ یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٤٤ dhālika min anbāi l-ghaybi nūḥīhi ilayka wamā kunta ladayhim idh yul'qūna aqlāmahum ayyuhum yakfulu maryama wamā kunta ladayhim idh yakhtaṣimūn This is an account of things beyond your knowledge that We reveal to you [Muhammad]: you were not present among them when they cast lots to see which of them should take charge of Mary, you were not present with them when they argued [about her] 45 إِذۡ قَالَتِ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَـٰمَرۡیَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةࣲ مِّنۡهُ ٱسۡمُهُ ٱلۡمَسِیحُ عِیسَى ٱبۡنُ مَرۡیَمَ وَجِیهࣰا فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِینَ ۝٤٥ idh qālati l-malāikatu yāmaryamu inna l-laha yubashiruki bikalimatin min'hu us'muhu l-masīḥu ʿīsā ub'nu maryama wajīhan fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wamina l-muqarabīn The angels said, ‘Mary, God gives you news of a Word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, who will be held in honour in this world and the next, who will be one of those brought near to God 46 وَیُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِی ٱلۡمَهۡدِ وَكَهۡلࣰا وَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٤٦ wayukallimu l-nāsa fī l-mahdi wakahlan wamina l-ṣāliḥīn He will speak to people in his infancyand in his adulthood. He will be one of the righteous.’

47 قَالَتۡ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی وَلَدࣱ وَلَمۡ یَمۡسَسۡنِی بَشَرࣱۖ قَالَ كَذَ ٰلِكِ ٱللَّهُ یَخۡلُقُ مَا یَشَاۤءُۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣰا فَإِنَّمَا یَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٤٧ qālat rabbi annā yakūnu lī waladun walam yamsasnī basharun qāla kadhāliki l-lahu yakhluqu mā yashāu idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn She said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when no man has touched me?’ [The angel] said, ‘This is how God creates what He will: when He has ordained something, He only says, “Be”, and it is

48 وَیُعَلِّمُهُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ وَٱلۡإِنجِیلَ ۝٤٨ wayuʿallimuhu l-kitāba wal-ḥik'mata wal-tawrāta wal-injīl He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel 49 وَرَسُولًا إِلَىٰ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ أَنِّی قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِءَایَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ أَنِّیۤ أَخۡلُقُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطِّینِ كَهَیۡءَةِ ٱلطَّیۡرِ فَأَنفُخُ فِیهِ فَیَكُونُ طَیۡرَۢا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَأُبۡرِئُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَهَ وَٱلۡأَبۡرَصَ وَأُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا تَأۡكُلُونَ وَمَا تَدَّخِرُونَ فِی بُیُوتِكُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٤٩ warasūlan ilā banī is'rāīla annī qad ji'tukum biāyatin min rabbikum annī akhluqu lakum mina l-ṭīni kahayati l-ṭayri fa-anfukhu fīhi fayakūnu ṭayran bi-idh'ni l-lahi wa-ub'ri-u l-akmaha wal-abraṣa wa-uḥ'yī l-mawtā bi-idh'ni l-lahi wa-unabbi-ukum bimā takulūna wamā taddakhirūna fī buyūtikum inna fī dhālika laāyatan lakum in kuntum mu'minīn He will send him as a messenger to the Children of Israel: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I will make the shape of a bird for you out of clay, then breathe into it and, with God’s permission, it will become a real bird; I will heal the blind and the leper, and bring the dead back to life with God’s permission; I will tell you what you may eat and what you may store up in your houses. There truly is a sign for you in this, if you are believers 50 وَمُصَدِّقࣰا لِّمَا بَیۡنَ یَدَیَّ مِنَ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ وَلِأُحِلَّ لَكُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی حُرِّمَ عَلَیۡكُمۡۚ وَجِئۡتُكُم بِءَایَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُونِ ۝٥٠ wamuṣaddiqan limā bayna yadayya mina l-tawrāti wali-uḥilla lakum baʿḍa alladhī ḥurrima ʿalaykum waji'tukum biāyatin min rabbikum fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṭīʿūn I have come to confirm the truth of the Torah which preceded me, and to make some things lawful to you which used to be forbidden. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. Be mindful of God, obey me 51 إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّی وَرَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٥١ inna l-laha rabbī warabbukum fa-uʿ'budūhu hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu God is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him- that is a straight path.”’
