38 وَٱلشَّمۡسُ تَجۡرِی لِمُسۡتَقَرࣲّ لَّهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝٣٨ wal-shamsu tajrī limus'taqarrin lahā dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm The sun, too, runs its determined course laid down for it by the Almighty, the All Knowing 39 وَٱلۡقَمَرَ قَدَّرۡنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلۡعُرۡجُونِ ٱلۡقَدِیمِ ۝٣٩ wal-qamara qaddarnāhu manāzila ḥattā ʿāda kal-ʿur'jūni l-qadīm We have determined phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk 40 لَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ یَنۢبَغِی لَهَاۤ أَن تُدۡرِكَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّیۡلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِۚ وَكُلࣱّ فِی فَلَكࣲ یَسۡبَحُونَ ۝٤٠ lā l-shamsu yanbaghī lahā an tud'rika l-qamara walā al-laylu sābiqu l-nahāri wakullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn The sun cannot overtake the moon, nor can the night outrun the day: each floats in [its own] orbit 41 وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمۡ أَنَّا حَمَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝٤١ waāyatun lahum annā ḥamalnā dhurriyyatahum fī l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn Another sign for them is that We carried their seed in the laden Ark
42 وَخَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثۡلِهِۦ مَا یَرۡكَبُونَ ۝٤٢ wakhalaqnā lahum min mith'lihi mā yarkabūn and We have made similar things for them to ride in
43 وَإِن نَّشَأۡ نُغۡرِقۡهُمۡ فَلَا صَرِیخَ لَهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنقَذُونَ ۝٤٣ wa-in nasha nugh'riq'hum falā ṣarīkha lahum walā hum yunqadhūn If We wished, We could drown them, and there would be no one to help them: they could not be saved 44 إِلَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٤٤ illā raḥmatan minnā wamatāʿan ilā ḥīni Only by Our mercy could they be reprieved to enjoy life for a while 45 وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٤٥ wa-idhā qīla lahumu ittaqū mā bayna aydīkum wamā khalfakum laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn Yet when they are told, ‘Beware of what lies before and behind you, so that you may be given mercy,’ 46 وَمَا تَأۡتِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤٦ wamā tatīhim min āyatin min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn they ignore every single sign that comes to them from their Lord
