Verse 37:147 in Context

143
فَلَوۡلَاۤ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِینَ ١٤٣
falawlā annahu kāna mina l-musabiḥīn
If he had not been one of those who glorified God
144
لَلَبِثَ فِی بَطۡنِهِۦۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ١٤٤
lalabitha fī baṭnihi ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn
he would have stayed in its belly until the Day when all are raised up
145
۞ فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَاۤءِ وَهُوَ سَقِیمࣱ ١٤٥
fanabadhnāhu bil-ʿarāi wahuwa saqīmu
but We cast him out, sick, on to a barren shore
146
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ شَجَرَةࣰ مِّن یَقۡطِینࣲ ١٤٦
wa-anbatnā ʿalayhi shajaratan min yaqṭīni
and made a gourd tree grow above him
147
وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ یَزِیدُونَ ١٤٧
wa-arsalnāhu ilā mi-ati alfin aw yazīdūn
We sent him to a hundred thousand people or more
148
فَءَامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ١٤٨
faāmanū famattaʿnāhum ilā ḥīni
They believed, so We let them live out their lives
149
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ١٤٩
fa-is'taftihim alirabbika l-banātu walahumu l-banūn
Now [Muhammad], ask the disbelievers: is it true that your Lord has daughters, while they choose sons for themselves
150
أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِنَـٰثࣰا وَهُمۡ شَـٰهِدُونَ ١٥٠
am khalaqnā l-malāikata ināthan wahum shāhidūn
Did We create the angels as females while they were watching
151
أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَیَقُولُونَ ١٥١
alā innahum min if'kihim layaqūlūn
No indeed! It is one of their lies when they say
