Verse 37:39 in Context

35 إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۤا۟ إِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٣٥ innahum kānū idhā qīla lahum lā ilāha illā l-lahu yastakbirūn Whenever it was said to them, ‘There is no deity but God,’ they became arrogant 36 وَیَقُولُونَ أَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرࣲ مَّجۡنُونِۭ ۝٣٦ wayaqūlūna a-innā latārikū ālihatinā lishāʿirin majnūni and said, ‘Are we to forsake our gods for a mad poet?’ 37 بَلۡ جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣٧ bal jāa bil-ḥaqi waṣaddaqa l-mur'salīn ‘No: he brought the truth and confirmed the earlier messengers 38 إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَاۤىِٕقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِیمِ ۝٣٨ innakum ladhāiqū l-ʿadhābi l-alīm you will taste the painful torment
39 وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٩ wamā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn and be repaid only according to your deeds.’
40 إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٤٠ illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn Not so God’s true servants 41 أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٤١ ulāika lahum riz'qun maʿlūmu They will have familiar provisions–– 42 فَوَ ٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ ۝٤٢ fawākihu wahum muk'ramūn fruits- and will be honoure 43 فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝٤٣ fī jannāti l-naʿīm in gardens of delight
