20 وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِذۡ جَعَلَ فِیكُمۡ أَنۢبِیَاۤءَ وَجَعَلَكُم مُّلُوكࣰا وَءَاتَىٰكُم مَّا لَمۡ یُؤۡتِ أَحَدࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٢٠ wa-idh qāla mūsā liqawmihi yāqawmi udh'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi ʿalaykum idh jaʿala fīkum anbiyāa wajaʿalakum mulūkan waātākum mā lam yu'ti aḥadan mina l-ʿālamīn Moses said to his people, ‘My people, remember God’s blessing on you: how He raised prophets among you and appointed kings for you and gave you what he had not given to any other people 21 یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسَةَ ٱلَّتِی كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ وَلَا تَرۡتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَارِكُمۡ فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢١ yāqawmi ud'khulū l-arḍa l-muqadasata allatī kataba l-lahu lakum walā tartaddū ʿalā adbārikum fatanqalibū khāsirīn My people, go into the holy land which God has ordained for you––do not turn back or you will be the losers.’ 22 قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنَّ فِیهَا قَوۡمࣰا جَبَّارِینَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ یَخۡرُجُوا۟ مِنۡهَا فَإِن یَخۡرُجُوا۟ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّا دَ ٰخِلُونَ ۝٢٢ qālū yāmūsā inna fīhā qawman jabbārīna wa-innā lan nadkhulahā ḥattā yakhrujū min'hā fa-in yakhrujū min'hā fa-innā dākhilūn They said, ‘Moses, there is a fearsome people in this land. We will not go there until they leave. If they leave, then we will enter.’ 23 قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ یَخَافُونَ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِمَا ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡبَابَ فَإِذَا دَخَلۡتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمۡ غَـٰلِبُونَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوۤا۟ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢٣ qāla rajulāni mina alladhīna yakhāfūna anʿama l-lahu ʿalayhimā ud'khulū ʿalayhimu l-bāba fa-idhā dakhaltumūhu fa-innakum ghālibūna waʿalā l-lahi fatawakkalū in kuntum mu'minīn Yet two men whom God had blessed among those who were afraid said, ‘Go in to them through the gate and when you go in you will overcome them. If you are true believers, put your trust in God.’

24 قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَاۤ أَبَدࣰا مَّا دَامُوا۟ فِیهَا فَٱذۡهَبۡ أَنتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَـٰتِلَاۤ إِنَّا هَـٰهُنَا قَـٰعِدُونَ ۝٢٤ qālū yāmūsā innā lan nadkhulahā abadan mā dāmū fīhā fa-idh'hab anta warabbuka faqātilā innā hāhunā qāʿidūn They said, ‘Moses, we will never enter while they are still there, so you and your Lord go in and fight, and we will stay here.’

25 قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّی لَاۤ أَمۡلِكُ إِلَّا نَفۡسِی وَأَخِیۖ فَٱفۡرُقۡ بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٢٥ qāla rabbi innī lā amliku illā nafsī wa-akhī fa-uf'ruq baynanā wabayna l-qawmi l-fāsiqīn He said, ‘Lord, I have authority over no one except myself and my brother: judge between the two of us and these disobedient people.’ 26 قَالَ فَإِنَّهَا مُحَرَّمَةٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡۛ أَرۡبَعِینَ سَنَةࣰۛ یَتِیهُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَلَا تَأۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٢٦ qāla fa-innahā muḥarramatun ʿalayhim arbaʿīna sanatan yatīhūna fī l-arḍi falā tasa ʿalā l-qawmi l-fāsiqīn God said, ‘The land is forbidden to them for forty years: they will wander the earth aimlessly. Do not grieve over those who disobey.’ 27 ۞ وَٱتۡلُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱبۡنَیۡ ءَادَمَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ إِذۡ قَرَّبَا قُرۡبَانࣰا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمۡ یُتَقَبَّلۡ مِنَ ٱلۡءَاخَرِ قَالَ لَأَقۡتُلَنَّكَۖ قَالَ إِنَّمَا یَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٢٧ wa-ut'lu ʿalayhim naba-a ib'nay ādama bil-ḥaqi idh qarrabā qur'bānan fatuqubbila min aḥadihimā walam yutaqabbal mina l-ākhari qāla la-aqtulannaka qāla innamā yataqabbalu l-lahu mina l-mutaqīn [Prophet], tell them the truth about the story of Adam’s two sons: each of them offered a sacrifice, and it was accepted from one and not the other. One said, ‘I will kill you,’ but the other said, ‘God only accepts the sacrifice of those who are mindful of Him 28 لَىِٕنۢ بَسَطتَ إِلَیَّ یَدَكَ لِتَقۡتُلَنِی مَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِبَاسِطࣲ یَدِیَ إِلَیۡكَ لِأَقۡتُلَكَۖ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٢٨ la-in basaṭta ilayya yadaka litaqtulanī mā anā bibāsiṭin yadiya ilayka li-aqtulaka innī akhāfu l-laha rabba l-ʿālamīn If you raise your hand to kill me, I will not raise mine to kill you. I fear God, the Lord of all worlds
