Verse 6:76 in Context

72 وَأَنۡ أَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَٱتَّقُوهُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٢ wa-an aqīmū l-ṣalata wa-ittaqūhu wahuwa alladhī ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn to establish regular prayers and be mindful of Him.’ It is to Him that you will all be gathered 73 وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَیَوۡمَ یَقُولُ كُن فَیَكُونُۚ قَوۡلُهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ وَلَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ یَوۡمَ یُنفَخُ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡخَبِیرُ ۝٧٣ wahuwa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi wayawma yaqūlu kun fayakūnu qawluhu l-ḥaqu walahu l-mul'ku yawma yunfakhu fī l-ṣūri ʿālimu l-ghaybi wal-shahādati wahuwa l-ḥakīmu l-khabīr It is He who created the heavens and the earth for a true purpose. On the Day when He says, ‘Be,’ it will be: His word is the truth. All control on the Day the Trumpet is blown belongs to Him. He knows the seen and the unseen: He is the All Wise, the All Aware 74 ۞ وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ لِأَبِیهِ ءَازَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصۡنَامًا ءَالِهَةً إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰكَ وَقَوۡمَكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٧٤ wa-idh qāla ib'rāhīmu li-abīhi āzara atattakhidhu aṣnāman ālihatan innī arāka waqawmaka fī ḍalālin mubīni Remember when Abraham said to his father, Azar, ‘How can you take idols as gods? I see that you and your people have clearly gone astray.’ 75 وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُرِیۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ مَلَكُوتَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلِیَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُوقِنِینَ ۝٧٥ wakadhālika nurī ib'rāhīma malakūta l-samāwāti wal-arḍi waliyakūna mina l-mūqinīn In this way We showed Abraham [God’s] mighty dominion over the heavens and the earth, so that he might be a firm believer

76 فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلَّیۡلُ رَءَا كَوۡكَبࣰاۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّیۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَ قَالَ لَاۤ أُحِبُّ ٱلۡءَافِلِینَ ۝٧٦ falammā janna ʿalayhi al-laylu raā kawkaban qāla hādhā rabbī falammā afala qāla lā uḥibbu l-āfilīn When the night grew dark over him he saw a star and said, ‘This is my Lord,’ but when it set, he said, ‘I do not like things that set.’

77 فَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلۡقَمَرَ بَازِغࣰا قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّیۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَ قَالَ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ یَهۡدِنِی رَبِّی لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلضَّاۤلِّینَ ۝٧٧ falammā raā l-qamara bāzighan qāla hādhā rabbī falammā afala qāla la-in lam yahdinī rabbī la-akūnanna mina l-qawmi l-ḍālīn And when he saw the moon rising he said, ‘This is my Lord,’ but when it too set, he said, ‘If my Lord does not guide me, I shall be one of those who go astray.’ 78 فَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلشَّمۡسَ بَازِغَةࣰ قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّی هَـٰذَاۤ أَكۡبَرُۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَتۡ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّمَّا تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٧٨ falammā raā l-shamsa bāzighatan qāla hādhā rabbī hādhā akbaru falammā afalat qāla yāqawmi innī barīon mimmā tush'rikūn Then he saw the sun rising and cried, ‘This is my Lord! This is greater.’ But when the sun set, he said, ‘My people, I disown all that you worship beside God 79 إِنِّی وَجَّهۡتُ وَجۡهِیَ لِلَّذِی فَطَرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ حَنِیفࣰاۖ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٧٩ innī wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhī faṭara l-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wamā anā mina l-mush'rikīn I have turned my face as a true believer towards Him who created the heavens and the earth. I am not one of the polytheists.’ 80 وَحَاۤجَّهُۥ قَوۡمُهُۥۚ قَالَ أَتُحَـٰۤجُّوۤنِّی فِی ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ هَدَىٰنِۚ وَلَاۤ أَخَافُ مَا تُشۡرِكُونَ بِهِۦۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ رَبِّی شَیۡءࣰاۚ وَسِعَ رَبِّی كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عِلۡمًاۚ أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٠ waḥājjahu qawmuhu qāla atuḥājjūnnī fī l-lahi waqad hadāni walā akhāfu mā tush'rikūna bihi illā an yashāa rabbī shayan wasiʿa rabbī kulla shayin ʿil'man afalā tatadhakkarūn His people argued with him, and he said, ‘How can you argue with me about God when He has guided me? I do not fear anything you associate with Him: unless my Lord wills [nothing can happen]. My Lord encompasses everything in His knowledge. How can you not take heed
