ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَمۡ یَتَّخِذۡ وَلَدࣰا وَلَمۡ یَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِیكࣱ فِی ٱلۡمُلۡكِ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ تَقۡدِیرࣰا ۝٢

John Medows Rodwell

His the Kingdom of the Heavens and of the Earth! No son hath He begotten! No partner hath He in his Empire! All things hath He created, and decreeing hath decreed their destinies

alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi walam yattakhidh waladan walam yakun lahu sharīkun fī l-mul'ki wakhalaqa kulla shayin faqaddarahu taqdīra

25:3

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ ءَالِهَةࣰ لَّا یَخۡلُقُونَ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُمۡ یُخۡلَقُونَ وَلَا یَمۡلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمۡ ضَرࣰّا وَلَا نَفۡعࣰا وَلَا یَمۡلِكُونَ مَوۡتࣰا وَلَا حَیَوٰةࣰ وَلَا نُشُورࣰا ۝٣

John Medows Rodwell

Yet have they adopted gods beside Him which have created nothing, but were themselves created: And no power have they over themselves for evil or for good, nor have they power of death, or of life, or of raising the dead

wa-ittakhadhū min dūnihi ālihatan lā yakhluqūna shayan wahum yukh'laqūna walā yamlikūna li-anfusihim ḍarran walā nafʿan walā yamlikūna mawtan walā ḥayatan walā nushūra

25:4

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ إِفۡكٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ وَأَعَانَهُۥ عَلَیۡهِ قَوۡمٌ ءَاخَرُونَۖ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءُو ظُلۡمࣰا وَزُورࣰا ۝٤

John Medows Rodwell

And the infidels say, "This Koran is a mere fraud of his own devising, and others have helped him with it, who had come hither by outrage and lie."

waqāla alladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā if'kun if'tarāhu wa-aʿānahu ʿalayhi qawmun ākharūna faqad jāū ẓul'man wazūra

25:5

وَقَالُوۤا۟ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ٱكۡتَتَبَهَا فَهِیَ تُمۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِ بُكۡرَةࣰ وَأَصِیلࣰا ۝٥

John Medows Rodwell

And they say, "Tales of the ancients that he hath put in writing! and they were dictated to him morn and even."

waqālū asāṭīru l-awalīna ik'tatabahā fahiya tum'lā ʿalayhi buk'ratan wa-aṣīla

25:6

قُلۡ أَنزَلَهُ ٱلَّذِی یَعۡلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝٦

John Medows Rodwell

SAY: He hath sent it down who knoweth the secrets of the Heavens and of the Earth. He truly is the Gracious, the Merciful

qul anzalahu alladhī yaʿlamu l-sira fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi innahu kāna ghafūran raḥīma

25:7

وَقَالُوا۟ مَالِ هَـٰذَا ٱلرَّسُولِ یَأۡكُلُ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَیَمۡشِی فِی ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡهِ مَلَكࣱ فَیَكُونَ مَعَهُۥ نَذِیرًا ۝٧

John Medows Rodwell

And they say, "What sort of apostle is this? He eateth food and he walketh the streets! Unless an angel be sent down and take part in his warnings

waqālū māli hādhā l-rasūli yakulu l-ṭaʿāma wayamshī fī l-aswāqi lawlā unzila ilayhi malakun fayakūna maʿahu nadhīra

25:8

أَوۡ یُلۡقَىٰۤ إِلَیۡهِ كَنزٌ أَوۡ تَكُونُ لَهُۥ جَنَّةࣱ یَأۡكُلُ مِنۡهَاۚ وَقَالَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلࣰا مَّسۡحُورًا ۝٨

John Medows Rodwell

Or a treasure be thrown down to him, or he have a garden that supplieth him with food . . ." and those unjust persons say, "Ye follow but a man enchanted."

aw yul'qā ilayhi kanzun aw takūnu lahu jannatun yakulu min'hā waqāla l-ẓālimūna in tattabiʿūna illā rajulan masḥūra

25:9

ٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ ضَرَبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَـٰلَ فَضَلُّوا۟ فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٩

John Medows Rodwell

See what likenesses they strike out for thee! But they err, and cannot find their way

unẓur kayfa ḍarabū laka l-amthāla faḍallū falā yastaṭīʿūna sabīla

25:10

تَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِیۤ إِن شَاۤءَ جَعَلَ لَكَ خَیۡرࣰا مِّن ذَ ٰلِكَ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ وَیَجۡعَل لَّكَ قُصُورَۢا ۝١٠

John Medows Rodwell

Blessed be He who if he please can give thee better than that of which they speak - Gardens, 'neath which the rivers flow: and pavilions will He assign thee

tabāraka alladhī in shāa jaʿala laka khayran min dhālika jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru wayajʿal laka quṣūra

25:11

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلسَّاعَةِۖ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لِمَن كَذَّبَ بِٱلسَّاعَةِ سَعِیرًا ۝١١

John Medows Rodwell

Aye, they have treated the coming of "the Hour" as a lie. But a flaming fire have we got ready for those who treat the coming of the Hour as a lie

bal kadhabū bil-sāʿati wa-aʿtadnā liman kadhaba bil-sāʿati saʿīra

25:12

إِذَا رَأَتۡهُم مِّن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِیدࣲ سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا تَغَیُّظࣰا وَزَفِیرࣰا ۝١٢

John Medows Rodwell

When it shall see them from afar, they shall hear its raging and roaring,

idhā ra-athum min makānin baʿīdin samiʿū lahā taghayyuẓan wazafīra

25:13

وَإِذَاۤ أُلۡقُوا۟ مِنۡهَا مَكَانࣰا ضَیِّقࣰا مُّقَرَّنِینَ دَعَوۡا۟ هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورࣰا ۝١٣

John Medows Rodwell

And when they shall be flung into a narrow space thereof bound together, they shall invoke destruction on the spot

wa-idhā ul'qū min'hā makānan ḍayyiqan muqarranīna daʿaw hunālika thubūra

25:14

لَّا تَدۡعُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ ثُبُورࣰا وَ ٰحِدࣰا وَٱدۡعُوا۟ ثُبُورࣰا كَثِیرࣰا ۝١٤

John Medows Rodwell

-"Call not this day for one destruction, but call for destructions many."

lā tadʿū l-yawma thubūran wāḥidan wa-id'ʿū thubūran kathīra

25:15

قُلۡ أَذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرٌ أَمۡ جَنَّةُ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۚ كَانَتۡ لَهُمۡ جَزَاۤءࣰ وَمَصِیرࣰا ۝١٥

John Medows Rodwell

SAY: Is this, or the Paradise of Eternity which was promised to the God-fearing, best? Their recompense shall it be and their retreat

qul adhālika khayrun am jannatu l-khul'di allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna kānat lahum jazāan wamaṣīra

25:16

لَّهُمۡ فِیهَا مَا یَشَاۤءُونَ خَـٰلِدِینَۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ وَعۡدࣰا مَّسۡءُولࣰا ۝١٦

John Medows Rodwell

Abiding therein for ever, they shall have in it all that they desire! It is a promise to be claimed of thy Lord

lahum fīhā mā yashāūna khālidīna kāna ʿalā rabbika waʿdan masūla

25:17

وَیَوۡمَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡ وَمَا یَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَیَقُولُ ءَأَنتُمۡ أَضۡلَلۡتُمۡ عِبَادِی هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ أَمۡ هُمۡ ضَلُّوا۟ ٱلسَّبِیلَ ۝١٧

John Medows Rodwell

And on the day when he shall gather them together, and those whom they worshipped beside God, he will say, "Was it ye who led these my servants astray, or of themselves strayed they from the path?"

wayawma yaḥshuruhum wamā yaʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi fayaqūlu a-antum aḍlaltum ʿibādī hāulāi am hum ḍallū l-sabīl

25:18

قَالُوا۟ سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ مَا كَانَ یَنۢبَغِی لَنَاۤ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ مِن دُونِكَ مِنۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ وَلَـٰكِن مَّتَّعۡتَهُمۡ وَءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ نَسُوا۟ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمَۢا بُورࣰا ۝١٨

John Medows Rodwell

They will say, "Glory be to thee! It beseemed not us to take other lords than thee. But thou gavest them and their fathers their fill of good things, till they forgat the remembrance of thee, and became a lost people."

qālū sub'ḥānaka mā kāna yanbaghī lanā an nattakhidha min dūnika min awliyāa walākin mattaʿtahum waābāahum ḥattā nasū l-dhik'ra wakānū qawman būra

25:19

فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُوكُم بِمَا تَقُولُونَ فَمَا تَسۡتَطِیعُونَ صَرۡفࣰا وَلَا نَصۡرࣰاۚ وَمَن یَظۡلِم مِّنكُمۡ نُذِقۡهُ عَذَابࣰا كَبِیرࣰا ۝١٩

John Medows Rodwell

Then will God say to the Idolaters, "Now have they made you liars in what ye say, and they have no power to avert your doom, or to succour you." whosoever of you thus offendeth, we will make him taste a great punishment

faqad kadhabūkum bimā taqūlūna famā tastaṭīʿūna ṣarfan walā naṣran waman yaẓlim minkum nudhiq'hu ʿadhāban kabīra

25:20

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ إِلَّاۤ إِنَّهُمۡ لَیَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَیَمۡشُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِۗ وَجَعَلۡنَا بَعۡضَكُمۡ لِبَعۡضࣲ فِتۡنَةً أَتَصۡبِرُونَۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِیرࣰا ۝٢٠

John Medows Rodwell

Never have we sent Apostles before thee who ate not common food, and walked not the streets. And we test you by means of each other. Will ye be steadfast? Thy Lord is looking on

wamā arsalnā qablaka mina l-mur'salīna illā innahum layakulūna l-ṭaʿāma wayamshūna fī l-aswāqi wajaʿalnā baʿḍakum libaʿḍin fit'natan ataṣbirūna wakāna rabbuka baṣīra

25:21

۞ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَوۡ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَاۗ لَقَدِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَعَتَوۡ عُتُوࣰّا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٢١

John Medows Rodwell

They who look not forward to meet Us say, "If the angels be not sent down to us, or unless we behold our Lord. . . ." Ah! they are proud of heart, and exceed with great excess

waqāla alladhīna lā yarjūna liqāanā lawlā unzila ʿalaynā l-malāikatu aw narā rabbanā laqadi is'takbarū fī anfusihim waʿataw ʿutuwwan kabīra

25:22

یَوۡمَ یَرَوۡنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ لَا بُشۡرَىٰ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لِّلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ وَیَقُولُونَ حِجۡرࣰا مَّحۡجُورࣰا ۝٢٢

John Medows Rodwell

On the day when they shall see the angels, no good news shall there be for the guilty ones, and they shall cry out, "A barrier that cannot be passed!"

yawma yarawna l-malāikata lā bush'rā yawma-idhin lil'muj'rimīna wayaqūlūna ḥij'ran maḥjūra

25:23

وَقَدِمۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ مِنۡ عَمَلࣲ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ هَبَاۤءࣰ مَّنثُورًا ۝٢٣

John Medows Rodwell

Then will we proceed to the works which they have wrought, and make them as scattered dust

waqadim'nā ilā mā ʿamilū min ʿamalin fajaʿalnāhu habāan manthūra

25:24

أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ خَیۡرࣱ مُّسۡتَقَرࣰّا وَأَحۡسَنُ مَقِیلࣰا ۝٢٤

John Medows Rodwell

Happier, on that day, the inmates of the Garden as to abode, and better off as to place of noontide slumber

aṣḥābu l-janati yawma-idhin khayrun mus'taqarran wa-aḥsanu maqīla

25:25

وَیَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ بِٱلۡغَمَـٰمِ وَنُزِّلَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ تَنزِیلًا ۝٢٥

John Medows Rodwell

On that day shall the heaven with its clouds be cleft, and the angels shall be sent down, descending

wayawma tashaqqaqu l-samāu bil-ghamāmi wanuzzila l-malāikatu tanzīla

25:26

ٱلۡمُلۡكُ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلۡحَقُّ لِلرَّحۡمَـٰنِۚ وَكَانَ یَوۡمًا عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَسِیرࣰا ۝٢٦

John Medows Rodwell

On that day shall all empire be in very deed with the God of Mercy, and a hard day shall it be for the Infidels

al-mul'ku yawma-idhin l-ḥaqu lilrraḥmāni wakāna yawman ʿalā l-kāfirīna ʿasīra

25:27

وَیَوۡمَ یَعَضُّ ٱلظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ یَدَیۡهِ یَقُولُ یَـٰلَیۡتَنِی ٱتَّخَذۡتُ مَعَ ٱلرَّسُولِ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٢٧

John Medows Rodwell

And on that day shall the wicked one bite his hands, and say, "Oh! would that I had taken the same path with the Apostle

wayawma yaʿaḍḍu l-ẓālimu ʿalā yadayhi yaqūlu yālaytanī ittakhadhtu maʿa l-rasūli sabīla

25:28

یَـٰوَیۡلَتَىٰ لَیۡتَنِی لَمۡ أَتَّخِذۡ فُلَانًا خَلِیلࣰا ۝٢٨

John Medows Rodwell

"Oh! woe is me! would that I had not taken such an one for my friend

yāwaylatā laytanī lam attakhidh fulānan khalīla

25:29

لَّقَدۡ أَضَلَّنِی عَنِ ٱلذِّكۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ جَاۤءَنِیۗ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ خَذُولࣰا ۝٢٩

John Medows Rodwell

It was he who led me astray from the Warning which had reached me! and Satan is man's betrayer."

laqad aḍallanī ʿani l-dhik'ri baʿda idh jāanī wakāna l-shayṭānu lil'insāni khadhūla

25:30

وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ یَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوۡمِی ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ مَهۡجُورࣰا ۝٣٠

John Medows Rodwell

Then said the Apostle, "O my Lord! truly my people have esteemed this Koran to be vain babbling."

waqāla l-rasūlu yārabbi inna qawmī ittakhadhū hādhā l-qur'āna mahjūra

25:31

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِیٍّ عَدُوࣰّا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ هَادِیࣰا وَنَصِیرࣰا ۝٣١

John Medows Rodwell

Thus have we given to every Prophet an enemy from among the wicked ones - But thy Lord is a sufficient guide and helper

wakadhālika jaʿalnā likulli nabiyyin ʿaduwwan mina l-muj'rimīna wakafā birabbika hādiyan wanaṣīra

25:32

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ جُمۡلَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِۦ فُؤَادَكَۖ وَرَتَّلۡنَـٰهُ تَرۡتِیلࣰا ۝٣٢

John Medows Rodwell

And the infidels say, "Unless the Koran be sent down to him all at once. . . ." But in this way would we stablish thy heart by it; in parcels have we parcelled it out to thee

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lawlā nuzzila ʿalayhi l-qur'ānu jum'latan wāḥidatan kadhālika linuthabbita bihi fuādaka warattalnāhu tartīla

25:33

وَلَا یَأۡتُونَكَ بِمَثَلٍ إِلَّا جِئۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَحۡسَنَ تَفۡسِیرًا ۝٣٣

John Medows Rodwell

Nor shall they come to thee with puzzling questions, but we will come to thee with the truth, and their best solution

walā yatūnaka bimathalin illā ji'nāka bil-ḥaqi wa-aḥsana tafsīra

25:34

ٱلَّذِینَ یُحۡشَرُونَ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰا وَأَضَلُّ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٣٤

John Medows Rodwell

They who shall be gathered upon their faces into hell, shall have the worst place, and be farthest from the path of happiness

alladhīna yuḥ'sharūna ʿalā wujūhihim ilā jahannama ulāika sharrun makānan wa-aḍallu sabīla

25:35

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلۡنَا مَعَهُۥۤ أَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ وَزِیرࣰا ۝٣٥

John Medows Rodwell

Heretofore we gave the law to Moses, and appointed his brother Aaron to be his counsellor

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba wajaʿalnā maʿahu akhāhu hārūna wazīra

25:36

فَقُلۡنَا ٱذۡهَبَاۤ إِلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا فَدَمَّرۡنَـٰهُمۡ تَدۡمِیرࣰا ۝٣٦

John Medows Rodwell

And we said, "Go ye to the people who treat our signs as lies." And them destroyed we with utter destruction

faqul'nā idh'habā ilā l-qawmi alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā fadammarnāhum tadmīra

25:37

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ لَّمَّا كَذَّبُوا۟ ٱلرُّسُلَ أَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ لِلنَّاسِ ءَایَةࣰۖ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ عَذَابًا أَلِیمࣰا ۝٣٧

John Medows Rodwell

And as to the people of Noah! when they treated their Apostles as impostors, we drowned them; and we made them a sign to mankind: - A grievous chastisement have we prepared for the wicked

waqawma nūḥin lammā kadhabū l-rusula aghraqnāhum wajaʿalnāhum lilnnāsi āyatan wa-aʿtadnā lilẓẓālimīna ʿadhāban alīma

25:38

وَعَادࣰا وَثَمُودَا۟ وَأَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلرَّسِّ وَقُرُونَۢا بَیۡنَ ذَ ٰلِكَ كَثِیرࣰا ۝٣٨

John Medows Rodwell

And Ad and Themoud, and the men of Rass, and divers generations between them

waʿādan wathamūdā wa-aṣḥāba l-rasi waqurūnan bayna dhālika kathīra

25:39

وَكُلࣰّا ضَرَبۡنَا لَهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَـٰلَۖ وَكُلࣰّا تَبَّرۡنَا تَتۡبِیرࣰا ۝٣٩

John Medows Rodwell

Unto each of them did we set forth parables for warnings, and each of them did we utterly exterminate

wakullan ḍarabnā lahu l-amthāla wakullan tabbarnā tatbīra

25:40

وَلَقَدۡ أَتَوۡا۟ عَلَى ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ ٱلَّتِیۤ أُمۡطِرَتۡ مَطَرَ ٱلسَّوۡءِۚ أَفَلَمۡ یَكُونُوا۟ یَرَوۡنَهَاۚ بَلۡ كَانُوا۟ لَا یَرۡجُونَ نُشُورࣰا ۝٤٠

Oft are this have the unbelieving Meccans passed by the city on which was rained a fatal rain. What! Have they not seen it? Yet have they no hope of a resurrection

walaqad ataw ʿalā l-qaryati allatī um'ṭirat maṭara l-sawi afalam yakūnū yarawnahā bal kānū lā yarjūna nushūra

25:41

وَإِذَا رَأَوۡكَ إِن یَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی بَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ رَسُولًا ۝٤١

John Medows Rodwell

And when they see thee, they do but take thee as the subject of their railleries. "What! Is this he whom God has sent as an Apostle

wa-idhā ra-awka in yattakhidhūnaka illā huzuwan ahādhā alladhī baʿatha l-lahu rasūla

25:42

إِن كَادَ لَیُضِلُّنَا عَنۡ ءَالِهَتِنَا لَوۡلَاۤ أَن صَبَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهَاۚ وَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ حِینَ یَرَوۡنَ ٱلۡعَذَابَ مَنۡ أَضَلُّ سَبِیلًا ۝٤٢

John Medows Rodwell

Indeed he had well nigh led us astray from our gods, had we not persevered steadfastly in their service." But in the end they shall know, when they shall see the punishment, who hath most strayed from the path

in kāda layuḍillunā ʿan ālihatinā lawlā an ṣabarnā ʿalayhā wasawfa yaʿlamūna ḥīna yarawna l-ʿadhāba man aḍallu sabīla

25:43

أَرَءَیۡتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ أَفَأَنتَ تَكُونُ عَلَیۡهِ وَكِیلًا ۝٤٣

John Medows Rodwell

What thinkest thou? He who hath taken his passions as a god - wilt thou be a guardian over him

ara-ayta mani ittakhadha ilāhahu hawāhu afa-anta takūnu ʿalayhi wakīla

25:44

أَمۡ تَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ یَسۡمَعُونَ أَوۡ یَعۡقِلُونَۚ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا كَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ بَلۡ هُمۡ أَضَلُّ سَبِیلًا ۝٤٤

John Medows Rodwell

Thinkest thou that the greater part of them hear or understand? They are just like the brutes! Yes! they stray even further from the right way

am taḥsabu anna aktharahum yasmaʿūna aw yaʿqilūna in hum illā kal-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu sabīla

25:45

أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَیۡفَ مَدَّ ٱلظِّلَّ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ لَجَعَلَهُۥ سَاكِنࣰا ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَا ٱلشَّمۡسَ عَلَیۡهِ دَلِیلࣰا ۝٤٥

John Medows Rodwell

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord lengtheneth out the shadow? Had He pleased he had made it motionless. But we made the sun to be its guide

alam tara ilā rabbika kayfa madda l-ẓila walaw shāa lajaʿalahu sākinan thumma jaʿalnā l-shamsa ʿalayhi dalīla

25:46

ثُمَّ قَبَضۡنَـٰهُ إِلَیۡنَا قَبۡضࣰا یَسِیرࣰا ۝٤٦

John Medows Rodwell

Then draw it in unto Us with easy indrawing

thumma qabaḍnāhu ilaynā qabḍan yasīra

25:47

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ لِبَاسࣰا وَٱلنَّوۡمَ سُبَاتࣰا وَجَعَلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ نُشُورࣰا ۝٤٧

John Medows Rodwell

He it is who ordaineth the night as a garment, and sleep for rest, and ordaineth the day for waking up to life

wahuwa alladhī jaʿala lakumu al-layla libāsan wal-nawma subātan wajaʿala l-nahāra nushūra

25:48

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَرۡسَلَ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ بُشۡرَۢا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ طَهُورࣰا ۝٤٨

John Medows Rodwell

He it is who sendeth the winds as the forerunner of his mercy (rain); and pure water send we down from Heaven

wahuwa alladhī arsala l-riyāḥa bush'ran bayna yaday raḥmatihi wa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan ṭahūra

25:49

لِّنُحۡـِۧیَ بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰا وَنُسۡقِیَهُۥ مِمَّا خَلَقۡنَاۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣰا وَأَنَاسِیَّ كَثِیرࣰا ۝٤٩

John Medows Rodwell

That we may revive by it a dead land: and we give it for drink to our creation, beasts and men in numbers

linuḥ'yiya bihi baldatan maytan wanus'qiyahu mimmā khalaqnā anʿāman wa-anāsiyya kathīra

25:50

وَلَقَدۡ صَرَّفۡنَـٰهُ بَیۡنَهُمۡ لِیَذَّكَّرُوا۟ فَأَبَىٰۤ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ إِلَّا كُفُورࣰا ۝٥٠

John Medows Rodwell

And we distribute it among them on all sides, that they may reflect: but most men refuse to be aught but thankless

walaqad ṣarrafnāhu baynahum liyadhakkarū fa-abā aktharu l-nāsi illā kufūra

25:51

وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَبَعَثۡنَا فِی كُلِّ قَرۡیَةࣲ نَّذِیرࣰا ۝٥١

John Medows Rodwell

Had we pleased, we had raised up a warner in every city

walaw shi'nā labaʿathnā fī kulli qaryatin nadhīra

25:52

فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ وَجَـٰهِدۡهُم بِهِۦ جِهَادࣰا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٥٢

John Medows Rodwell

Give not way therefore to the Infidels, but by means of this Koran strive against them with a mighty strife

falā tuṭiʿi l-kāfirīna wajāhid'hum bihi jihādan kabīra

25:53

۞ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ هَـٰذَا عَذۡبࣱ فُرَاتࣱ وَهَـٰذَا مِلۡحٌ أُجَاجࣱ وَجَعَلَ بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣰا وَحِجۡرࣰا مَّحۡجُورࣰا ۝٥٣

John Medows Rodwell

And He it is who hath let loose the two seas, the one sweet, fresh; and the other salt, bitter; and hath put an interspace between them, and a barrier that cannot be passed

wahuwa alladhī maraja l-baḥrayni hādhā ʿadhbun furātun wahādhā mil'ḥun ujājun wajaʿala baynahumā barzakhan waḥij'ran maḥjūra

25:54

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَاۤءِ بَشَرࣰا فَجَعَلَهُۥ نَسَبࣰا وَصِهۡرࣰاۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ قَدِیرࣰا ۝٥٤

John Medows Rodwell

And it is He who hath created man of water, and established between them the ties of kindred and affinity: and potent is thy Lord

wahuwa alladhī khalaqa mina l-māi basharan fajaʿalahu nasaban waṣih'ran wakāna rabbuka qadīra

25:55

وَیَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَنفَعُهُمۡ وَلَا یَضُرُّهُمۡۗ وَكَانَ ٱلۡكَافِرُ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ ظَهِیرࣰا ۝٥٥

John Medows Rodwell

Yet beside God do they worship what can neither help nor hurt them: and the Infidel is Satan's helper against his Lord

wayaʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi mā lā yanfaʿuhum walā yaḍurruhum wakāna l-kāfiru ʿalā rabbihi ẓahīra

25:56

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰا ۝٥٦

John Medows Rodwell

Still we have sent thee only as a herald and a warner

wamā arsalnāka illā mubashiran wanadhīra

25:57

قُلۡ مَاۤ أَسۡءَلُكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍ إِلَّا مَن شَاۤءَ أَن یَتَّخِذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٥٧

John Medows Rodwell

SAY: I ask of you no recompense for it, except from him who is willing to take the way to his Lord

qul mā asalukum ʿalayhi min ajrin illā man shāa an yattakhidha ilā rabbihi sabīla

25:58

وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱلۡحَیِّ ٱلَّذِی لَا یَمُوتُ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِهِۦۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِیرًا ۝٥٨

John Medows Rodwell

And put thou thy trust in Him that liveth and dieth not, and celebrate his praise; (He fully knoweth the faults of his servants

watawakkal ʿalā l-ḥayi alladhī lā yamūtu wasabbiḥ biḥamdihi wakafā bihi bidhunūbi ʿibādihi khabīra

25:59

ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ فَسۡءَلۡ بِهِۦ خَبِیرࣰا ۝٥٩

John Medows Rodwell

who in six days created the Heavens and the Earth, and whatever is between them, then mounted his Throne: the God of Mercy! Ask now of the Wise concerning Him

alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi l-raḥmānu fasal bihi khabīra

25:60

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ لِلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ قَالُوا۟ وَمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ أَنَسۡجُدُ لِمَا تَأۡمُرُنَا وَزَادَهُمۡ نُفُورࣰا ۝٦٠ ۩

John Medows Rodwell

But when it is said to them, "Bow down before the God of Mercy," they say, "Who is the God of Mercy? Shall we bow down to what thou biddest?" And they fly from thee the more

wa-idhā qīla lahumu us'judū lilrraḥmāni qālū wamā l-raḥmānu anasjudu limā tamurunā wazādahum nufūra

25:61

تَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بُرُوجࣰا وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا سِرَ ٰجࣰا وَقَمَرࣰا مُّنِیرࣰا ۝٦١

John Medows Rodwell

Blessed be He who hath placed in the Heaven the sign of the Zodiac! who hath placed in it the Lamp of the Sun, and the light-giving Moon

tabāraka alladhī jaʿala fī l-samāi burūjan wajaʿala fīhā sirājan waqamaran munīra

25:62

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ خِلۡفَةࣰ لِّمَنۡ أَرَادَ أَن یَذَّكَّرَ أَوۡ أَرَادَ شُكُورࣰا ۝٦٢

John Medows Rodwell

And it is He who hath ordained the night and the day to succeed one another for those who desire to think on God or desire to be thankful

wahuwa alladhī jaʿala al-layla wal-nahāra khil'fatan liman arāda an yadhakkara aw arāda shukūra

25:63

وَعِبَادُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلَّذِینَ یَمۡشُونَ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هَوۡنࣰا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلُونَ قَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمࣰا ۝٦٣

John Medows Rodwell

And the servants of the God of Mercy are they who walk upon the Earth softly; and when the ignorant address them, they reply, "Peace!"

waʿibādu l-raḥmāni alladhīna yamshūna ʿalā l-arḍi hawnan wa-idhā khāṭabahumu l-jāhilūna qālū salāma

25:64

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَبِیتُونَ لِرَبِّهِمۡ سُجَّدࣰا وَقِیَـٰمࣰا ۝٦٤

John Medows Rodwell

They that pass the night in the worship of their lord prostrate and standing:

wa-alladhīna yabītūna lirabbihim sujjadan waqiyāma

25:65

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱصۡرِفۡ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا ۝٦٥

John Medows Rodwell

And that say, "O our Lord! turn away from us the torment of Hell, for its torment is endless

wa-alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā iṣ'rif ʿannā ʿadhāba jahannama inna ʿadhābahā kāna gharāma

25:66

إِنَّهَا سَاۤءَتۡ مُسۡتَقَرࣰّا وَمُقَامࣰا ۝٦٦

John Medows Rodwell

it is indeed an ill abode and resting place

innahā sāat mus'taqarran wamuqāma

25:67

وَٱلَّذِینَ إِذَاۤ أَنفَقُوا۟ لَمۡ یُسۡرِفُوا۟ وَلَمۡ یَقۡتُرُوا۟ وَكَانَ بَیۡنَ ذَ ٰلِكَ قَوَامࣰا ۝٦٧

John Medows Rodwell

Those who when they spend are neither lavish nor niggard, but keep the mean:

wa-alladhīna idhā anfaqū lam yus'rifū walam yaqturū wakāna bayna dhālika qawāma

25:68

وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَدۡعُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ وَلَا یَقۡتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِی حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا یَزۡنُونَۚ وَمَن یَفۡعَلۡ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَلۡقَ أَثَامࣰا ۝٦٨

John Medows Rodwell

Those who call on no other gods with God, nor slay whom God hath forbidden to be slain, except for a just cause, and who commit not fornication (for he who doth this shall meet the reward of his wickedness

wa-alladhīna lā yadʿūna maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara walā yaqtulūna l-nafsa allatī ḥarrama l-lahu illā bil-ḥaqi walā yaznūna waman yafʿal dhālika yalqa athāma

25:69

یُضَـٰعَفۡ لَهُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ وَیَخۡلُدۡ فِیهِۦ مُهَانًا ۝٦٩

John Medows Rodwell

Doubled to him shall be the torment on the day of Resurrection; and in it shall he remain, disgraced, for ever:

yuḍāʿaf lahu l-ʿadhābu yawma l-qiyāmati wayakhlud fīhi muhāna

25:70

إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلࣰا صَـٰلِحࣰا فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُبَدِّلُ ٱللَّهُ سَیِّءَاتِهِمۡ حَسَنَـٰتࣲۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝٧٠

John Medows Rodwell

Save those who shall repent and believe and do righteous works - for them God will change their evil things into good things, for God is Gracious, Merciful

illā man tāba waāmana waʿamila ʿamalan ṣāliḥan fa-ulāika yubaddilu l-lahu sayyiātihim ḥasanātin wakāna l-lahu ghafūran raḥīma

25:71

وَمَن تَابَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَإِنَّهُۥ یَتُوبُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَتَابࣰا ۝٧١

John Medows Rodwell

And whose turneth to God and doeth what is right, he verily will convert with a true conversion)

waman tāba waʿamila ṣāliḥan fa-innahu yatūbu ilā l-lahi matāba

25:72

وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَشۡهَدُونَ ٱلزُّورَ وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِٱللَّغۡوِ مَرُّوا۟ كِرَامࣰا ۝٧٢

John Medows Rodwell

And they who bear not witness to that which is false, and when they pass by frivolous sport, pass on with dignity:

wa-alladhīna lā yashhadūna l-zūra wa-idhā marrū bil-laghwi marrū kirāma

25:73

وَٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ لَمۡ یَخِرُّوا۟ عَلَیۡهَا صُمࣰّا وَعُمۡیَانࣰا ۝٧٣

John Medows Rodwell

And they who, when monished by the signs of their Lord, fall not down thereat, as if deaf and blind:

wa-alladhīna idhā dhukkirū biāyāti rabbihim lam yakhirrū ʿalayhā ṣumman waʿum'yāna

25:74

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجِنَا وَذُرِّیَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعۡیُنࣲ وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ إِمَامًا ۝٧٤

John Medows Rodwell

And who say, "O our Lord! give us in our wives and offspring the joy of our eyes, and make us examples to those who fear thee:"

wa-alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā hab lanā min azwājinā wadhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyunin wa-ij'ʿalnā lil'muttaqīna imāma

25:75

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُجۡزَوۡنَ ٱلۡغُرۡفَةَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ وَیُلَقَّوۡنَ فِیهَا تَحِیَّةࣰ وَسَلَـٰمًا ۝٧٥

John Medows Rodwell

These shall be rewarded with the High Places of Paradise for their steadfast endurance, and they shall meet therein with - Welcome and Salutation:

ulāika yuj'zawna l-ghur'fata bimā ṣabarū wayulaqqawna fīhā taḥiyyatan wasalāma

25:76

خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۚ حَسُنَتۡ مُسۡتَقَرࣰّا وَمُقَامࣰا ۝٧٦

John Medows Rodwell

For ever shall they remain therein: a fair abode and resting-place

khālidīna fīhā ḥasunat mus'taqarran wamuqāma

25:77

قُلۡ مَا یَعۡبَؤُا۟ بِكُمۡ رَبِّی لَوۡلَا دُعَاۤؤُكُمۡۖ فَقَدۡ كَذَّبۡتُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ یَكُونُ لِزَامَۢا ۝٧٧

SAY: Not on your account doth my Lord care if ye call not on Him! ye have treated his Apostle as an impostor: but bye and bye a punishment shall cleave to them

qul mā yaʿba-u bikum rabbī lawlā duʿāukum faqad kadhabtum fasawfa yakūnu lizāma
