1 The Bursting Asunder

إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ

When the sky is torn

Itha alssamao inshaqqat

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

And it allowed its Lord, and was ready

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ

The Monotheist Group(2011 Edition)

And when the land is stretched

Wa-itha al-ardu muddat

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ

And it spits out what is in it and becomes empty

Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

And it permits its Lord, and is ready

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ

O man, you will be returning to your Lord with your actions and meeting Him

Ya ayyuha al-insanu innaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhan famulaqeehi

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ

So whoever is given his record in his right

Faama man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

He will then receive an easy reckoning

Fasawfa yuhasabu hisaban yaseeran

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا

And he will return to his family in joy

Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masrooran

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ

And as for he who is given his record behind his back

Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraa thahrihi

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا

He will invoke his destruction

Fasawfa yadAAoo thubooran

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

And he will enter a blazing Fire

Wayasla saAAeeran

إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا

He was with his people in joy

Innahu kana fee ahlihi masrooran

إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ

He thought he would not be returned

Innahu thanna an lan yahoora

بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا

No, He is ever seeing of him

Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseeran

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ

So, I swear by the redness of dusk

Fala oqsimu bialshshafaqi

وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

And the night and what it is driven on

Waallayli wama wasaqa

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ

And the moon when it is full

Waalqamari itha ittasaqa

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ

You will ride a vessel upon a vessel

Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaqin

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

So what is the matter with them that they do not believ

Fama lahum la yu/minoona

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ

And when the Quran is being related to them, they do not prostrate

Wa-itha quri-a AAalayhimu alqur-anu la yasjudoona

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ

No, those who have rejected are in denial

Bali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboona

وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ

And God is more aware of what they gather

WaAllahu aAAlamu bima yooAAoona

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

So inform them of a painful retribution

Fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleemin

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ

Except for those who believe and do good works, they will have a reward that will not end

Illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum ajrun ghayru mamnoonin
