The Bee 16:4 Noun
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once, he is a clear adversary
Abdel Haleem: He created man from a drop of fluid, and yet man openly challenges Him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He hath created man from a drop of fluid, yet behold! he is an open opponent
The Pilgrimage 22:19 Noun
۞ هَـٰذَانِ خَصۡمَانِ ٱخۡتَصَمُوا۟ فِی رَبِّهِمۡۖ فَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ قُطِّعَتۡ لَهُمۡ ثِیَابࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ یُصَبُّ مِن فَوۡقِ رُءُوسِهِمُ ٱلۡحَمِیمُ ۝١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): These are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord. But those who disbelieved will have cut out for them garments of fire. Poured upon their heads will be scalding wate
Abdel Haleem: These two kinds of people disagree about their Lord. Garments of fire will be tailored for those who disbelieve; scalding water will be poured over their heads
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: These twain (the believers and the disbelievers) are two opponents who contend concerning their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down on their heads
The Cow 2:204 Noun
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن یُعۡجِبُكَ قَوۡلُهُۥ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَیُشۡهِدُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا فِی قَلۡبِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَلَدُّ ٱلۡخِصَامِ ۝٢٠٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life, and he calls Allah to witness as to what is in his heart, yet he is the fiercest of opponents
Abdel Haleem: There is [a kind of] man whose views on the life of this world may please you [Prophet], he even calls on God to witness what is in his heart, yet he is the bitterest of opponents
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And of mankind there is he whoso conversation on the life of this world pleaseth thee (Muhammad), and he calleth Allah to witness as to that which is in his heart; yet he is the most rigid of opponents
Ya Sin, Ya-Seen 36:77 Noun
أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary
Abdel Haleem: Can man not see that We created him from a drop of fluid? Yet- lo and behold!- he disputes openly
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Hath not man seen that We have created him from a drop of seed? Yet lo! he is an open opponent
The Letter Sad 38:21 Noun
۞ وَهَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَصۡمِ إِذۡ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber
Abdel Haleem: Have you heard the story of the two litigants who climbed into his private quarters
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber
The Letter Sad 38:22 Noun
إِذۡ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنۡهُمۡۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفۡۖ خَصۡمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعۡضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فَٱحۡكُم بَیۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تُشۡطِطۡ وَٱهۡدِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ سَوَاۤءِ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path
Abdel Haleem: When they reached David, he took fright, but they said, ‘Do not be afraid. We are two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other: judge between us fairly- do not be unjust- and guide us to the right path
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: How they burst in upon David, and he was afraid of them. They said: Be not afraid! (We are) two litigants, one of whom hath wronged the other, therefor judge aright between us; be not unjust; and show us the fair way
The Letter Sad 38:64 Noun
إِنَّ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَحَقࣱّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهۡلِ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٦٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, that is truth - the quarreling of the people of the Fire
Abdel Haleem: This is how it will really be: the inhabitants of the Fire will blame one another in this way
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! that is very truth: the wrangling of the dwellers in the Fire
Ornaments of Gold, Luxury, The Embellishment 43:18 Noun
أَوَ مَن یُنَشَّؤُا۟ فِی ٱلۡحِلۡیَةِ وَهُوَ فِی ٱلۡخِصَامِ غَیۡرُ مُبِینࣲ ۝١٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident [attributed to Allah ]
Abdel Haleem: ‘Someone who is brought up amongst trinkets, who cannot put together a clear argument?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (Liken they then to Allah) that which is bred up in outward show, and in dispute cannot make itself plain
Ornaments of Gold, Luxury, The Embellishment 43:58 Noun
وَقَالُوۤا۟ ءَأَ ٰلِهَتُنَا خَیۡرٌ أَمۡ هُوَۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلَۢاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ خَصِمُونَ ۝٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they said, "Are your gods better, or is he?" They did not present the comparison except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute
Abdel Haleem: saying, ‘Are our gods better or him?’- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And say: Are our gods better, or is he? They raise not the objection save for argument. Nay! but they are a contentious folk
Women 4:105 Noun
إِنَّاۤ أَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِتَحۡكُمَ بَیۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِمَاۤ أَرَىٰكَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَلَا تَكُن لِّلۡخَاۤىِٕنِینَ خَصِیمࣰا ۝١٠٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate
Abdel Haleem: We have sent down the Scripture to you [Prophet] with the truth so that you can judge between people in accordance with what God has shown you. Do not be an advocate for those who betray trust
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! We reveal unto thee the Scripture with the truth, that thou mayst judge between mankind by that which Allah showeth thee. And be not thou a pleader for the treacherous

The Pilgrimage 22:19 Verb

The Poets 26:96 Verb
قَالُوا۟ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٩٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They will say while they dispute therein
Abdel Haleem: There they will say to their gods, as they bicker among themselves
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein
The Ant, The Ants 27:45 Verb
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمۡ صَـٰلِحًا أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَإِذَا هُمۡ فَرِیقَانِ یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٤٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And We had certainly sent to Thamud their brother Salih, [saying], "Worship Allah ," and at once they were two parties conflicting
Abdel Haleem: To the people of Thamud We sent their brother, Salih, saying, ‘Worship God alone,’ but they split into two rival factions
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And We verily sent unto Thamud their brother Salih, saying: Worship Allah. And lo! they (then became two parties quarrelling
Ya Sin, Ya-Seen 36:49 Verb
مَا یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ تَأۡخُذُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَخِصِّمُونَ ۝٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing
Abdel Haleem: But all they are waiting for is a single blast that will overtake them while they are still arguing with each other
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They await but one Shout, which will surprise them while they are disputing
The Letter Sad 38:69 Verb
مَا كَانَ لِیَ مِنۡ عِلۡمِۭ بِٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٦٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam]
Abdel Haleem: I have no knowledge of what those on high discuss
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: I had no knowledge of the Highest Chiefs when they disputed
The Troops, Throngs, The Companies 39:31 Verb
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ عِندَ رَبِّكُمۡ تَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute
Abdel Haleem: and, on the Day of Resurrection, you will dispute with one another in the presence of your Lord
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then lo! on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord ye will dispute
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:44 Verb
ذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَاۤءِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ نُوحِیهِ إِلَیۡكَۚ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَیۡهِمۡ إِذۡ یُلۡقُونَ أَقۡلَـٰمَهُمۡ أَیُّهُمۡ یَكۡفُلُ مَرۡیَمَ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَیۡهِمۡ إِذۡ یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muhammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed
Abdel Haleem: This is an account of things beyond your knowledge that We reveal to you [Muhammad]: you were not present among them when they cast lots to see which of them should take charge of Mary, you were not present with them when they argued [about her]
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: This is of the tidings of things hidden. We reveal it unto thee (Muhammad). Thou wast not present with them when they threw their pens (to know) which of them should be the guardian of Mary, nor wast thou present with them when they quarrelled (thereupon)
The Letter Qaf 50:28 Verb
قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [ Allah ] will say, "Do not dispute before Me, while I had already presented to you the warning
Abdel Haleem: God will say, ‘Do not argue in My presence. I sent you a warnin
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He saith: Contend not in My presence, when I had already proffered unto you the warning
