The Bee 16:80
Verb
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۢ بُیُوتِكُمۡ سَكَنࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّن جُلُودِ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ بُیُوتࣰا تَسۡتَخِفُّونَهَا یَوۡمَ ظَعۡنِكُمۡ وَیَوۡمَ إِقَامَتِكُمۡ وَمِنۡ أَصۡوَافِهَا وَأَوۡبَارِهَا وَأَشۡعَارِهَاۤ أَثَـٰثࣰا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ٨٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And Allah has made for you from your homes a place of rest and made for you from the hides of the animals tents which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment; and from their wool, fur and hair is furnishing and enjoyment for a time
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who has given you a place of rest in your homes and from the skins of animals made you homes that you find light [to handle] when you travel and when you set up camp; furnishings and comfort for a while from their wool, fur, and hair
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Allah hath given you in your houses an abode, and hath given you (also), of the hides of cattle, houses which ye find light (to carry) on the day of migration and on the day of pitching camp; and of their wool and their fur and their hair, caparison and comfort for a while
The Bee 16:85
Verb
وَإِذَا رَءَا ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ فَلَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ٨٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved
Abdel Haleem:
When the evildoers face punishment it will not be lightened for them nor will they be given any respite
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And when those who did wrong behold the doom, it will not be made light for them, nor will they be reprieved
The Believers 23:103
Verb
وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِی جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ١٠٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally
Abdel Haleem:
but those whose balance is light will have lost their souls for ever and will stay in Hell
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding
The Cow 2:162
Verb
خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا لَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ١٦٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved
Abdel Haleem:
They will remain in this state of rejection: their punishment will not be lightened, nor will they be reprieved
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
They ever dwell therein. The doom will not be lightened for them, neither will they be reprieved
The Cow 2:86
Verb
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱشۡتَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ فَلَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ٨٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Those are the ones who have bought the life of this world [in exchange] for the Hereafter, so the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be aided
Abdel Haleem:
These are the people who buy the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter: their torment will not be lightened, nor will they be helped
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Such are those who buy the life of the world at the price of the Hereafter. Their punishment will not be lightened, neither will they have support
فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّۖ وَلَا یَسۡتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُوقِنُونَ ٦٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And let them not disquiet you who are not certain [in faith]
Abdel Haleem:
so be patient, for God’s promise is true: do not let those with no firm beliefs discourage you
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So have patience (O Muhammad)! Allah's promise is the very truth, and let not those who have no certainty make thee impatient
وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَهُمۡ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ لَا یُقۡضَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ فَیَمُوتُوا۟ وَلَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِهَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی كُلَّ كَفُورࣲ ٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And for those who disbelieve will be the fire of Hell. [Death] is not decreed for them so they may die, nor will its torment be lightened for them. Thus do we recompense every ungrateful one
Abdel Haleem:
But those who reject the truth will stay in Hellfire, where they will neither be finished off by death, nor be relieved from Hell’s torment: this is how We reward hardened disbelievers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
But as for those who disbelieve, for them is fire of hell; it taketh not complete effect upon them so that they can die, nor is its torment lightened for them. Thus We punish every ingrate
خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا لَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ٨٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved
Abdel Haleem:
and so they will remain, with no relief or respite for their suffering
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
They will abide therein. Their doom will not be lightened, neither will they be reprieved
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدۡعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ یُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا یَوۡمࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment."
Abdel Haleem:
Those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, ‘Ask your Lord to lessen our suffering for one day,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And those in the Fire say unto the guards of hell: Entreat your Lord that He relieve us of a day of the torment
فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ٥٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah ]
Abdel Haleem:
In this way he moved his people to accept and they obeyed him- they were perverse people
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk
Women 4:28
Verb
یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمۡۚ وَخُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ ضَعِیفࣰا ٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak
Abdel Haleem:
God wishes to lighten your burden; man was created weak
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Allah would make the burden light for you, for man was created weak
وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَظۡلِمُونَ ٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses
Abdel Haleem:
and those whose good deeds are light will be the ones who have lost their souls through their wrongful rejection of Our messages
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they used to wrong Our revelations
ٱلۡءَـٰنَ خَفَّفَ ٱللَّهُ عَنكُمۡ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِیكُمۡ ضَعۡفࣰاۚ فَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةࣱ صَابِرَةࣱ یَغۡلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَیۡنِۚ وَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُمۡ أَلۡفࣱ یَغۡلِبُوۤا۟ أَلۡفَیۡنِ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Now, Allah has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allah . And Allah is with the steadfast
Abdel Haleem:
But God has lightened your burden for now, knowing that there is weakness in you––a steadfast hundred of you will defeat two hundred and a steadfast thousand of you will defeat two thousand, by God’s permission: God is with the steadfast
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Now hath Allah lightened your burden, for He knoweth that there is weakness in you. So if there be of you a steadfast hundred they shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a thousand (steadfast) they shall overcome two thousand by permission of Allah. Allah is with the steadfast

Noun
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِصَاصُ فِی ٱلۡقَتۡلَىۖ ٱلۡحُرُّ بِٱلۡحُرِّ وَٱلۡعَبۡدُ بِٱلۡعَبۡدِ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ بِٱلۡأُنثَىٰۚ فَمَنۡ عُفِیَ لَهُۥ مِنۡ أَخِیهِ شَیۡءࣱ فَٱتِّبَاعُۢ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَأَدَاۤءٌ إِلَیۡهِ بِإِحۡسَـٰنࣲۗ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَخۡفِیفࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَرَحۡمَةࣱۗ فَمَنِ ٱعۡتَدَىٰ بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فَلَهُۥ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ١٧٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered - the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment
Abdel Haleem:
You who believe, fair retribution is prescribed for you in cases of murder: the free man for the free man, the slave for the slave, the female for the female. But if the culprit is pardoned by his aggrieved brother, this shall be adhered to fairly, and the culprit shall pay what is due in a good way. This is an alleviation from your Lord and an act of mercy. If anyone then exceeds these limits, grievous suffering awaits him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
O ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the murdered; the freeman for the freeman, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. And for him who is forgiven somewhat by his (injured) brother, prosecution according to usage and payment unto him in kindness. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. He who transgresseth after this will have a painful doom
۞ هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسࣲ وَ ٰحِدَةࣲ وَجَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا لِیَسۡكُنَ إِلَیۡهَاۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّىٰهَا حَمَلَتۡ حَمۡلًا خَفِیفࣰا فَمَرَّتۡ بِهِۦۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَثۡقَلَت دَّعَوَا ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَىِٕنۡ ءَاتَیۡتَنَا صَـٰلِحࣰا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ١٨٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah , their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."
Abdel Haleem:
It is He who created you all from one soul, and from it made its mate so that he might find comfort in her: when one [of them] lies with his wife and she conceives a light burden, going about freely, then grows heavy, they both pray to God, their Lord, ‘If You give us a good child we shall certainly be grateful,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
He it is Who did create you from a single soul, and therefrom did make his mate that he might take rest in her. And when he covered her she bore a light burden, and she passed (unnoticed) with it, but when it became heavy they cried unto Allah, their Lord, saying: If thou givest unto us aright we shall be of the thankful
Repentance 9:41
Noun
ٱنفِرُوا۟ خِفَافࣰا وَثِقَالࣰا وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٤١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah . That is better for you, if you only knew
Abdel Haleem:
So go out, no matter whether you are lightly or heavily armed, and struggle in God’s way with your possessions and your persons: this is better for you, if you only knew
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if ye but knew
