The Bee 16:24 Noun
وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُم مَّاذَاۤ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" They say, "Legends of the former peoples,"
Abdel Haleem: When they are asked, ‘What has your Lord sent down?’ they say, ‘Ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when it is said unto them: What hath your Lord revealed? they say: (Mere) fables of the men of old
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:58 Noun
وَإِن مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ إِلَّا نَحۡنُ مُهۡلِكُوهَا قَبۡلَ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ أَوۡ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰاۚ كَانَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فِی ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مَسۡطُورࣰا ۝٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And there is no city but that We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection or punish it with a severe punishment. That has ever been in the Register inscribed
Abdel Haleem: there is no community We shall not destroy, or punish severely, before the Day of Resurrection- this is written in the Book
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: There is not a township but We shall destroy it ere the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with dire punishment. That is set forth in the Book (of Our decrees)
The Believers 23:83 Noun
لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: We have heard such promises before, and so did our forefathers. These are just ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: We were already promised this, we and our forefathers. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old
The Criterion, The Standard 25:5 Noun
وَقَالُوۤا۟ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ٱكۡتَتَبَهَا فَهِیَ تُمۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِ بُكۡرَةࣰ وَأَصِیلࣰا ۝٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they say, "Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon."
Abdel Haleem: and they say, ‘It is just ancient fables, which he has had written down: they are dictated to him morning and evening.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they say: Fables of the men of old which he hath had written down so that they are dictated to him morn and evening
The Ant, The Ants 27:68 Noun
لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا هَـٰذَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before. This is not but legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: We have heard such promises before, and so did our forefathers. These are just ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: We were promised this, forsooth, we and our fathers. (All) this is naught but fables of the men of old

ٱلنَّبِیُّ أَوۡلَىٰ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ مِنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡۖ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُهُۥۤ أُمَّهَـٰتُهُمۡۗ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامِ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلَىٰ بِبَعۡضࣲ فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَفۡعَلُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤىِٕكُم مَّعۡرُوفࣰاۚ كَانَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فِی ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مَسۡطُورࣰا ۝٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allah than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do to your close associates a kindness [through bequest]. That was in the Book inscribed
Abdel Haleem: The Prophet is more protective towards the believers than they are themselves, while his wives are their mothers. In God’s Scripture, blood-relatives have a stronger claim than other believers and emigrants, though you may still bestow gifts on your proteges. All this is written in the Scripture
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, and his wives are (as) their mothers. And the owners of kinship are closer one to another in the ordinance of Allah than (other) believers and the fugitives (who fled from Mecca), except that ye should do kindness to your friends. This is written in the Book (of nature)
The Wind-curved Sandhills, The Dunes, The Sandhills 46:17 Noun
وَٱلَّذِی قَالَ لِوَ ٰلِدَیۡهِ أُفࣲّ لَّكُمَاۤ أَتَعِدَانِنِیۤ أَنۡ أُخۡرَجَ وَقَدۡ خَلَتِ ٱلۡقُرُونُ مِن قَبۡلِی وَهُمَا یَسۡتَغِیثَانِ ٱللَّهَ وَیۡلَكَ ءَامِنۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّ فَیَقُولُ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But one who says to his parents, "Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth [from the earth] when generations before me have already passed on [into oblivion]?" while they call to Allah for help [and to their son], "Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth." But he says, "This is not but legends of the former people"
Abdel Haleem: But some say to their parents, ‘What? Are you really warning me that I shall be raised alive from my grave, when so many generations have already passed and gone before me?’ His parents implore God for help; they say, ‘Alas for you! Believe! God’s promise is true,’ but still he replies, ‘These are nothing but ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And whoso saith unto his parents: Fie upon you both! Do ye threaten me that I shall be brought forth (again) when generations before me have passed away? And they twain cry unto Allah for help (and say): Woe unto thee! Believe! Lo! the promise of Allah is true. But he saith: This is naught save fables of the men of old
The Mount, The Mountain 52:2 Noun
وَكِتَـٰبࣲ مَّسۡطُورࣲ ۝٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [by] a Book inscribe
Abdel Haleem: by a Scripture inscribe
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And a Scripture inscribe
The Mount, The Mountain 52:37 Noun
أَمۡ عِندَهُمۡ خَزَاۤىِٕنُ رَبِّكَ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُصَۣیۡطِرُونَ ۝٣٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]
Abdel Haleem: Do they possess your Lord’s treasures or have control over them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)
The Moon 54:53 Noun
وَكُلُّ صَغِیرࣲ وَكَبِیرࣲ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ ۝٥٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And every small and great [thing] is inscribed
Abdel Haleem: every action, great or small, is recorded
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And every small and great thing is recorded
The Pen 68:15 Noun
إِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: when our revelations are recited to him, he says, ‘These are just ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old
Cattle, Livestock 6:25 Noun
وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَیۡكَۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن یَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣰاۚ وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كُلَّ ءَایَةࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهَاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءُوكَ یُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ یَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: Among them are some who [appear to] listen to you, but we have placed covers over their hearts- so they do not understand the Quran- and deafness in their ears. Even if they saw every sign they would not believe in them. So, when they come to you, they argue with you: the disbelievers say, ‘These are nothing but ancient fables,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Of them are some who listen unto thee, but We have placed upon their hearts veils, lest they should understand, and in their ears a deafness. If they saw every token they would not believe therein; to the point that, when they come unto thee to argue with thee, the disbelievers say: This is naught else than fables of the men of old
Defrauding, The Defrauders, The Cheats, Cheating 83:13 Noun
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: when Our revelations are recited to him, he says, ‘Ancient fables!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old
The Overwhelming, The Overwhelming Calamity, The Pall 88:22 Noun
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): You are not over them a controller
Abdel Haleem: you are not there to control them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Thou art not at all a warder over them
The Spoils of War 8:31 Noun
وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدۡ سَمِعۡنَا لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلۡنَا مِثۡلَ هَـٰذَاۤ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."
Abdel Haleem: Whenever Our Revelation is recited to them they say, ‘We have heard all this before- we could say something like this if we wanted- this is nothing but ancient fables.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when Our revelations are recited unto them they say: We have heard. If we wish we can speak the like of this. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old

The Pen 68:1 Verb
۞ نۤۚ وَٱلۡقَلَمِ وَمَا یَسۡطُرُونَ ۝١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe
Abdel Haleem: Nun By the pen! By all they write
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Nun. By the pen and that which they write (therewith)
