Joseph 12:19 Noun
وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَیَّارَةࣱ فَأَرۡسَلُوا۟ وَارِدَهُمۡ فَأَدۡلَىٰ دَلۡوَهُۥۖ قَالَ یَـٰبُشۡرَىٰ هَـٰذَا غُلَـٰمࣱۚ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَـٰعَةࣰۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise; and Allah was knowing of what they did
Abdel Haleem: Some travellers came by. They sent someone to draw water and he let down his bucket. ‘Good news!’ he exclaimed. ‘Here is a boy!’ They hid him like a piece of merchandise- God was well aware of what they did
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And there came a caravan, and they sent their waterdrawer. He let down his pail (into the pit). He said: Good luck! Here is a youth. And they hid him as a treasure, and Allah was Aware of what they did
The Rock, Stoneland, Rock City 15:53 Noun
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوۡجَلۡ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝٥٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."
Abdel Haleem: ‘Do not be afraid,’ they said, ‘We bring you good news of a son who will have great knowledge.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They said: Be not afraid! Lo! we bring thee good tidings of a boy possessing wisdom
The Cave 18:74 Noun
فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا لَقِیَا غُلَـٰمࣰا فَقَتَلَهُۥ قَالَ أَقَتَلۡتَ نَفۡسࣰا زَكِیَّةَۢ بِغَیۡرِ نَفۡسࣲ لَّقَدۡ جِئۡتَ شَیۡءࣰا نُّكۡرࣰا ۝٧٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So they set out, until when they met a boy, al-Khidh r killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."
Abdel Haleem: And so they travelled on. Then, when they met a young boy and the man killed him, Moses said, ‘How could you kill an innocent person? He has not killed anyone! What a terrible thing to do!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So they twain journeyed on till, when they met a lad, he slew him. (Moses) said: What! Hast thou slain an innocent soul who hath slain no man? Verily thou hast done a horrid thing
The Cave 18:80 Noun
وَأَمَّا ٱلۡغُلَـٰمُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤۡمِنَیۡنِ فَخَشِینَاۤ أَن یُرۡهِقَهُمَا طُغۡیَـٰنࣰا وَكُفۡرࣰا ۝٨٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief
Abdel Haleem: The young boy had parents who were people of faith, and so, fearing he would trouble them through wickedness and disbelief
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And as for the lad, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief
The Cave 18:82 Noun
وَأَمَّا ٱلۡجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَـٰمَیۡنِ یَتِیمَیۡنِ فِی ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ وَكَانَ تَحۡتَهُۥ كَنزࣱ لَّهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَـٰلِحࣰا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن یَبۡلُغَاۤ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَیَسۡتَخۡرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ وَمَا فَعَلۡتُهُۥ عَنۡ أَمۡرِیۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَأۡوِیلُ مَا لَمۡ تَسۡطِع عَّلَیۡهِ صَبۡرࣰا ۝٨٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."
Abdel Haleem: The wall belonged to two young orphans in the town and there was buried treasure beneath it belonging to them. Their father had been a righteous man, so your Lord intended them to reach maturity and then dig up their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. I did not do [these things] of my own accord: these are the explanations for those things you could not bear with patience.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father had been righteous, and thy Lord intended that they should come to their full strength and should bring forth their treasure as a mercy from their Lord; and I did it not upon my own command. Such is the interpretation of that wherewith thou couldst not bear
Mary 19:19 Noun
قَالَ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنَا۠ رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَـٰمࣰا زَكِیࣰّا ۝١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy."
Abdel Haleem: but he said, ‘I am but a Mes-senger from your Lord, [come] to announce to you the gift of a pure son.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son
Mary 19:20 Noun
قَالَتۡ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی غُلَـٰمࣱ وَلَمۡ یَمۡسَسۡنِی بَشَرࣱ وَلَمۡ أَكُ بَغِیࣰّا ۝٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?"
Abdel Haleem: She said, ‘How can I have a son when no man has touched me? I have not been unchaste,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste
Mary 19:7 Noun
یَـٰزَكَرِیَّاۤ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ ٱسۡمُهُۥ یَحۡیَىٰ لَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ سَمِیࣰّا ۝٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name."
Abdel Haleem: ‘Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name will be John––We have chosen this name for no one before him.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; we have given the same name to none before (him)
Mary 19:8 Noun
قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی غُلَـٰمࣱ وَكَانَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتِی عَاقِرࣰا وَقَدۡ بَلَغۡتُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِبَرِ عِتِیࣰّا ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?"
Abdel Haleem: He said, ‘Lord, how can I have a son when my wife is barren, and I am old and frail?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age
Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers 37:101 Noun
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِیمࣲ ۝١٠١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy
Abdel Haleem: so We gave him the good news that he would have a patient son
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So We gave him tidings of a gentle son
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:40 Noun
قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی غُلَـٰمࣱ وَقَدۡ بَلَغَنِیَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ وَٱمۡرَأَتِی عَاقِرࣱۖ قَالَ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱللَّهُ یَفۡعَلُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ ۝٤٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" The angel said, "Such is Allah ; He does what He wills."
Abdel Haleem: He said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when I am so old and my wife is barren?’ [An angel] said, ‘It will be so: God does whatever He will.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when age hath overtaken me already and my wife is barren? (The angel) answered: So (it will be). Allah doeth what He will
The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers 51:28 Noun
فَأَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِیفَةࣰۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفۡۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy
Abdel Haleem: beginning to be afraid of them, but they said, ‘Do not be afraid.’ They gave him good news of a son who would be gifted with knowledge
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son
The Mount, The Mountain 52:24 Noun
۞ وَیَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ غِلۡمَانࣱ لَّهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected
Abdel Haleem: Devoted youths like hidden pearls wait on them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls
