فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهَا نَكَـٰلࣰا لِّمَا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهَا وَمَا خَلۡفَهَا وَمَوۡعِظَةࣰ لِّلۡمُتَّقِینَ ٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded [them] and a lesson for those who fear Allah
Abdel Haleem:
We made this an example to those people who were there at the time and to those who came after them, and a lesson to all who are mindful of God
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And We made it an example to their own and to succeeding generations, and an admonition to the Allah-fearing
Women 4:84

فَقَـٰتِلۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ إِلَّا نَفۡسَكَۚ وَحَرِّضِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَكُفَّ بَأۡسَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأۡسࣰا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِیلࣰا ٨٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of Allah ; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And encourage the believers [to join you] that perhaps Allah will restrain the [military] might of those who disbelieve. And Allah is greater in might and stronger in [exemplary] punishment
Abdel Haleem:
So [Prophet] fight in God’s way. You are accountable only for yourself. Urge the believers on. God may well curb the power of the disbelievers, for He is stronger in might and more terrible in punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So fight (O Muhammad) in the way of Allah Thou art not taxed (with the responsibility for anyone) except thyself - and urge on the believers. Peradventure Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve. Allah is stronger in might and stronger in inflicting punishment
وَٱلسَّارِقُ وَٱلسَّارِقَةُ فَٱقۡطَعُوۤا۟ أَیۡدِیَهُمَا جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَسَبَا نَكَـٰلࣰا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah . And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
Abdel Haleem:
Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are man or woman, as punishment for what they have done- a deterrent from God: God is almighty and wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise
إِنَّ لَدَیۡنَاۤ أَنكَالࣰا وَجَحِیمࣰا ١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fir

We have fetters, a blazing fire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire
فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]
Abdel Haleem:
so God condemned him to punishment in the life to come as well as in this life
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former
