Verse 18:65 in Context

61 فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجۡمَعَ بَیۡنِهِمَا نَسِیَا حُوتَهُمَا فَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِیلَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ سَرَبࣰا ۝٦١ falammā balaghā majmaʿa baynihimā nasiyā ḥūtahumā fa-ittakhadha sabīlahu fī l-baḥri saraba but when they reached the place where the two seas meet, they had forgotten all about their fish, which made its way into the sea and swam away 62 فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتَىٰهُ ءَاتِنَا غَدَاۤءَنَا لَقَدۡ لَقِینَا مِن سَفَرِنَا هَـٰذَا نَصَبࣰا ۝٦٢ falammā jāwazā qāla lifatāhu ātinā ghadāanā laqad laqīnā min safarinā hādhā naṣaba They journeyed on, and then Moses said to his servant, ‘Give us our lunch! This journey of ours is very tiring,’ 63 قَالَ أَرَءَیۡتَ إِذۡ أَوَیۡنَاۤ إِلَى ٱلصَّخۡرَةِ فَإِنِّی نَسِیتُ ٱلۡحُوتَ وَمَاۤ أَنسَىٰنِیهُ إِلَّا ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ أَنۡ أَذۡكُرَهُۥۚ وَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِیلَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ عَجَبࣰا ۝٦٣ qāla ara-ayta idh awaynā ilā l-ṣakhrati fa-innī nasītu l-ḥūta wamā ansānīhu illā l-shayṭānu an adhkurahu wa-ittakhadha sabīlahu fī l-baḥri ʿajaba and [the servant] said, ‘Remember when we were resting by the rock? I forgot the fish- Satan made me forget to pay attention to it- and it [must have] made its way into the sea.’ ‘How strange!’ 64 قَالَ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبۡغِۚ فَٱرۡتَدَّا عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَارِهِمَا قَصَصࣰا ۝٦٤ qāla dhālika mā kunnā nabghi fa-ir'taddā ʿalā āthārihimā qaṣaṣa Moses said, ‘Then that was the place we were looking for.’ So the two turned back, retraced their footsteps
65 فَوَجَدَا عَبۡدࣰا مِّنۡ عِبَادِنَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمۡنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلۡمࣰا ۝٦٥ fawajadā ʿabdan min ʿibādinā ātaynāhu raḥmatan min ʿindinā waʿallamnāhu min ladunnā ʿil'ma and found one of Our servants- a man to whom We had granted Our mercy and whom We had given knowledge of Our own
66 قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ هَلۡ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰۤ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمۡتَ رُشۡدࣰا ۝٦٦ qāla lahu mūsā hal attabiʿuka ʿalā an tuʿallimani mimmā ʿullim'ta rush'da Moses said to him, ‘May I follow you so that you can teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught?’ 67 قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسۡتَطِیعَ مَعِیَ صَبۡرࣰا ۝٦٧ qāla innaka lan tastaṭīʿa maʿiya ṣabra The man said, ‘You will not be able to bear with me patiently 68 وَكَیۡفَ تَصۡبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمۡ تُحِطۡ بِهِۦ خُبۡرࣰا ۝٦٨ wakayfa taṣbiru ʿalā mā lam tuḥiṭ bihi khub'ra How could you be patient in matters beyond your knowledge?’ 69 قَالَ سَتَجِدُنِیۤ إِن شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ صَابِرࣰا وَلَاۤ أَعۡصِی لَكَ أَمۡرࣰا ۝٦٩ qāla satajidunī in shāa l-lahu ṣābiran walā aʿṣī laka amra Moses said, ‘God willing, you will find me patient. I will not disobey you in any way.’
