Verse 21:68 in Context

64
فَرَجَعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّكُمۡ أَنتُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ٦٤
farajaʿū ilā anfusihim faqālū innakum antumu l-ẓālimūn
They turned to one another, saying, ‘It is you who are in the wrong,’
65
ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتَ مَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ یَنطِقُونَ ٦٥
thumma nukisū ʿalā ruūsihim laqad ʿalim'ta mā hāulāi yanṭiqūn
but then they lapsed again and said, ‘You know very well these gods cannot speak.’
66
قَالَ أَفَتَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَنفَعُكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یَضُرُّكُمۡ ٦٦
qāla afataʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi mā lā yanfaʿukum shayan walā yaḍurruku
Abraham said, ‘How can you worship what can neither benefit nor harm you, instead of God
67
أُفࣲّ لَّكُمۡ وَلِمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ٦٧
uffin lakum walimā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi afalā taʿqilūn
Shame on you and on the things you worship instead of God. Have you no sense?’
68
قَالُوا۟ حَرِّقُوهُ وَٱنصُرُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَـٰعِلِینَ ٦٨
qālū ḥarriqūhu wa-unṣurū ālihatakum in kuntum fāʿilīn
They said, ‘Burn him and avenge your gods, if you are going to do the right thing.’
69
قُلۡنَا یَـٰنَارُ كُونِی بَرۡدࣰا وَسَلَـٰمًا عَلَىٰۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٦٩
qul'nā yānāru kūnī bardan wasalāman ʿalā ib'rāhīm
But We said, ‘Fire, be cool and safe for Abraham.’
70
وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَیۡدࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَخۡسَرِینَ ٧٠
wa-arādū bihi kaydan fajaʿalnāhumu l-akhsarīn
They planned to harm him, but We made them suffer the greatest loss
71
وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَا لِلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ٧١
wanajjaynāhu walūṭan ilā l-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā lil'ʿālamīn
We saved him and Lot [and sent them] to the land We blessed for all people
72
وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَ وَیَعۡقُوبَ نَافِلَةࣰۖ وَكُلࣰّا جَعَلۡنَا صَـٰلِحِینَ ٧٢
wawahabnā lahu is'ḥāqa wayaʿqūba nāfilatan wakullan jaʿalnā ṣāliḥīn
and We gave him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, and made each of them righteous
