Verse 21:99 in Context

95 وَحَرَ ٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرۡیَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهَاۤ أَنَّهُمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٩٥ waḥarāmun ʿalā qaryatin ahlaknāhā annahum lā yarjiʿūn No community destroyed by Us can escape its return 96 حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فُتِحَتۡ یَأۡجُوجُ وَمَأۡجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبࣲ یَنسِلُونَ ۝٩٦ ḥattā idhā futiḥat yajūju wamajūju wahum min kulli ḥadabin yansilūn and when the peoples of Gog and Magog are let loose and swarm swiftly from every highland 97 وَٱقۡتَرَبَ ٱلۡوَعۡدُ ٱلۡحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِیَ شَـٰخِصَةٌ أَبۡصَـٰرُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا قَدۡ كُنَّا فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا بَلۡ كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٧ wa-iq'taraba l-waʿdu l-ḥaqu fa-idhā hiya shākhiṣatun abṣāru alladhīna kafarū yāwaylanā qad kunnā fī ghaflatin min hādhā bal kunnā ẓālimīn when the True Promise draws near, the disbelievers’ eyes will stare in terror, and they will say, ‘Woe to us! We were not aware of this at all. We were wrong.’ 98 إِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا وَ ٰرِدُونَ ۝٩٨ innakum wamā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi ḥaṣabu jahannama antum lahā wāridūn You [disbelievers] and what you worship instead of God will be fuel for Hell: that is where you will go

99 لَوۡ كَانَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ءَالِهَةࣰ مَّا وَرَدُوهَاۖ وَكُلࣱّ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٩٩ law kāna hāulāi ālihatan mā waradūhā wakullun fīhā khālidūn if these [idols] had been real gods they would not have gone there- you will all stay there

100 لَهُمۡ فِیهَا زَفِیرࣱ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝١٠٠ lahum fīhā zafīrun wahum fīhā lā yasmaʿūn There the disbelievers will be groaning piteously, but the [idols] will hear nothing 101 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ سَبَقَتۡ لَهُم مِّنَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَنۡهَا مُبۡعَدُونَ ۝١٠١ inna alladhīna sabaqat lahum minnā l-ḥus'nā ulāika ʿanhā mub'ʿadūn But those for whom We have decreed Paradise will be kept far from Hell 102 لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ حَسِیسَهَاۖ وَهُمۡ فِی مَا ٱشۡتَهَتۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٢ lā yasmaʿūna ḥasīsahā wahum fī mā ish'tahat anfusuhum khālidūn they will not hear a murmur from it- and endlessly they will enjoy everything their souls desire 103 لَا یَحۡزُنُهُمُ ٱلۡفَزَعُ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝١٠٣ lā yaḥzunuhumu l-fazaʿu l-akbaru watatalaqqāhumu l-malāikatu hādhā yawmukumu alladhī kuntum tūʿadūn They will have no fear of the great Terror: the angels will receive them with the words, ‘This is the Day you were promised!’
