14 وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَٱسۡتَوَىٰۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ حُكۡمࣰا وَعِلۡمࣰاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٤ walammā balagha ashuddahu wa-is'tawā ātaynāhu ḥuk'man waʿil'man wakadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn When Moses reached full maturity and manhood, We gave him wisdom and knowledge: this is how We reward those who do good 15 وَدَخَلَ ٱلۡمَدِینَةَ عَلَىٰ حِینِ غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ أَهۡلِهَا فَوَجَدَ فِیهَا رَجُلَیۡنِ یَقۡتَتِلَانِ هَـٰذَا مِن شِیعَتِهِۦ وَهَـٰذَا مِنۡ عَدُوِّهِۦۖ فَٱسۡتَغَـٰثَهُ ٱلَّذِی مِن شِیعَتِهِۦ عَلَى ٱلَّذِی مِنۡ عَدُوِّهِۦ فَوَكَزَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ فَقَضَىٰ عَلَیۡهِۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا مِنۡ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَدُوࣱّ مُّضِلࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٥ wadakhala l-madīnata ʿalā ḥīni ghaflatin min ahlihā fawajada fīhā rajulayni yaqtatilāni hādhā min shīʿatihi wahādhā min ʿaduwwihi fa-is'taghāthahu alladhī min shīʿatihi ʿalā alladhī min ʿaduwwihi fawakazahu mūsā faqaḍā ʿalayhi qāla hādhā min ʿamali l-shayṭāni innahu ʿaduwwun muḍillun mubīnu He entered the city, unnoticed by its people, and found two men fighting: one from his own people, the other an enemy. The one from his own people cried out to him for help against the enemy. Moses struck him with his fist and killed him. He said, ‘This must be Satan’s work: clearly he is a misleading enemy.’ 16 قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّی ظَلَمۡتُ نَفۡسِی فَٱغۡفِرۡ لِی فَغَفَرَ لَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١٦ qāla rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī fa-igh'fir lī faghafara lahu innahu huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīm He said, ‘Lord, I have wronged myself. Forgive me,’ so He forgave him; He is truly the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful 17 قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَیَّ فَلَنۡ أَكُونَ ظَهِیرࣰا لِّلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٧ qāla rabbi bimā anʿamta ʿalayya falan akūna ẓahīran lil'muj'rimīn He said, ‘My Lord, because of the blessings You have bestowed upon me, I shall never support those who do evil.’
18 فَأَصۡبَحَ فِی ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ خَاۤىِٕفࣰا یَتَرَقَّبُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِی ٱسۡتَنصَرَهُۥ بِٱلۡأَمۡسِ یَسۡتَصۡرِخُهُۥۚ قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰۤ إِنَّكَ لَغَوِیࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٨ fa-aṣbaḥa fī l-madīnati khāifan yataraqqabu fa-idhā alladhī is'tanṣarahu bil-amsi yastaṣrikhuhu qāla lahu mūsā innaka laghawiyyun mubīnu Next morning, he was walking in the city, fearful and vigilant, when suddenly the man he had helped the day before cried out to him for help. Moses said, ‘You are clearly a troublemaker.’
19 فَلَمَّاۤ أَنۡ أَرَادَ أَن یَبۡطِشَ بِٱلَّذِی هُوَ عَدُوࣱّ لَّهُمَا قَالَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ أَتُرِیدُ أَن تَقۡتُلَنِی كَمَا قَتَلۡتَ نَفۡسَۢا بِٱلۡأَمۡسِۖ إِن تُرِیدُ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَكُونَ جَبَّارࣰا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا تُرِیدُ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِینَ ۝١٩ falammā an arāda an yabṭisha bi-alladhī huwa ʿaduwwun lahumā qāla yāmūsā aturīdu an taqtulanī kamā qatalta nafsan bil-amsi in turīdu illā an takūna jabbāran fī l-arḍi wamā turīdu an takūna mina l-muṣ'liḥīn As he was about to attack the man who was an enemy to both of them, the man said, ‘Moses, are you going to kill me as you killed that person yesterday? You clearly want to be a tyrant in the land; you do not intend to put things right.’ 20 وَجَاۤءَ رَجُلࣱ مِّنۡ أَقۡصَا ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ یَسۡعَىٰ قَالَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنَّ ٱلۡمَلَأَ یَأۡتَمِرُونَ بِكَ لِیَقۡتُلُوكَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ إِنِّی لَكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٢٠ wajāa rajulun min aqṣā l-madīnati yasʿā qāla yāmūsā inna l-mala-a yatamirūna bika liyaqtulūka fa-ukh'ruj innī laka mina l-nāṣiḥīn Then a man came running from the furthest part of the city and said, ‘Moses, the authorities are talking about killing you, so leave- this is my sincere advice.’ 21 فَخَرَجَ مِنۡهَا خَاۤىِٕفࣰا یَتَرَقَّبُۖ قَالَ رَبِّ نَجِّنِی مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢١ fakharaja min'hā khāifan yataraqqabu qāla rabbi najjinī mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn So Moses left the city, fearful and wary, and prayed, ‘My Lord, save me from people who do wrong.’ 22 وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلۡقَاۤءَ مَدۡیَنَ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبِّیۤ أَن یَهۡدِیَنِی سَوَاۤءَ ٱلسَّبِیلِ ۝٢٢ walammā tawajjaha til'qāa madyana qāla ʿasā rabbī an yahdiyanī sawāa l-sabīl As he made his way towards Midian, he was saying, ‘May my Lord guide me to the right way.’
