34 ذُرِّیَّةَۢ بَعۡضُهَا مِنۢ بَعۡضࣲۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝٣٤ dhurriyyatan baʿḍuhā min baʿḍin wal-lahu samīʿun ʿalīmu in one line of descent- God hears and knows all 35 إِذۡ قَالَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُ عِمۡرَ ٰنَ رَبِّ إِنِّی نَذَرۡتُ لَكَ مَا فِی بَطۡنِی مُحَرَّرࣰا فَتَقَبَّلۡ مِنِّیۤۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٣٥ idh qālati im'ra-atu ʿim'rāna rabbi innī nadhartu laka mā fī baṭnī muḥarraran fataqabbal minnī innaka anta l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm Imran’s wife said, ‘Lord, I have dedicated what is growing in my womb entirely to You; so accept this from me. You are the One who hears and knows all,’ 36 فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتۡهَا قَالَتۡ رَبِّ إِنِّی وَضَعۡتُهَاۤ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتۡ وَلَیۡسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلۡأُنثَىٰۖ وَإِنِّی سَمَّیۡتُهَا مَرۡیَمَ وَإِنِّیۤ أُعِیذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّیَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِیمِ ۝٣٦ falammā waḍaʿathā qālat rabbi innī waḍaʿtuhā unthā wal-lahu aʿlamu bimā waḍaʿat walaysa l-dhakaru kal-unthā wa-innī sammaytuhā maryama wa-innī uʿīdhuhā bika wadhurriyyatahā mina l-shayṭāni l-rajīm but when she gave birth, she said, ‘My Lord! I have given birth to a girl’- God knew best what she had given birth to: the male is not like the female- ‘ I name her Mary and I commend her and her offspring to Your protection from the rejected Satan.’ 37 فَتَقَبَّلَهَا رَبُّهَا بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنࣲ وَأَنۢبَتَهَا نَبَاتًا حَسَنࣰا وَكَفَّلَهَا زَكَرِیَّاۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَیۡهَا زَكَرِیَّا ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ وَجَدَ عِندَهَا رِزۡقࣰاۖ قَالَ یَـٰمَرۡیَمُ أَنَّىٰ لَكِ هَـٰذَاۖ قَالَتۡ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَرۡزُقُ مَن یَشَاۤءُ بِغَیۡرِ حِسَابٍ ۝٣٧ fataqabbalahā rabbuhā biqabūlin ḥasanin wa-anbatahā nabātan ḥasanan wakaffalahā zakariyyā kullamā dakhala ʿalayhā zakariyyā l-miḥ'rāba wajada ʿindahā riz'qan qāla yāmaryamu annā laki hādhā qālat huwa min ʿindi l-lahi inna l-laha yarzuqu man yashāu bighayri ḥisābi Her Lord graciously accepted her and made her grow in goodness, and entrusted her to the charge of Zachariah. Whenever Zachariah went in to see her in her sanctuary, he found her supplied with provisions. He said, ‘Mary, how is it you have these provisions?’ and she said, ‘They are from God: God provides limitlessly for whoever He will.’
38 هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِیَّا رَبَّهُۥۖ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبۡ لِی مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّیَّةࣰ طَیِّبَةًۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِیعُ ٱلدُّعَاۤءِ ۝٣٨ hunālika daʿā zakariyyā rabbahu qāla rabbi hab lī min ladunka dhurriyyatan ṭayyibatan innaka samīʿu l-duʿā There and then Zachariah prayed to his Lord, saying, ‘Lord, from Your grace grant me virtuous offspring: You hear every prayer.’
39 فَنَادَتۡهُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَهُوَ قَاۤىِٕمࣱ یُصَلِّی فِی ٱلۡمِحۡرَابِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُبَشِّرُكَ بِیَحۡیَىٰ مُصَدِّقَۢا بِكَلِمَةࣲ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَسَیِّدࣰا وَحَصُورࣰا وَنَبِیࣰّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٣٩ fanādathu l-malāikatu wahuwa qāimun yuṣallī fī l-miḥ'rābi anna l-laha yubashiruka biyaḥyā muṣaddiqan bikalimatin mina l-lahi wasayyidan waḥaṣūran wanabiyyan mina l-ṣāliḥīn The angels called out to him, while he stood praying in the sanctuary, ‘God gives you news of John, confirming a Word from God. He will be noble and chaste, a prophet, one of the righteous.’ 40 قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی غُلَـٰمࣱ وَقَدۡ بَلَغَنِیَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ وَٱمۡرَأَتِی عَاقِرࣱۖ قَالَ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱللَّهُ یَفۡعَلُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ ۝٤٠ qāla rabbi annā yakūnu lī ghulāmun waqad balaghaniya l-kibaru wa-im'ra-atī ʿāqirun qāla kadhālika l-lahu yafʿalu mā yashā He said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when I am so old and my wife is barren?’ [An angel] said, ‘It will be so: God does whatever He will.’ 41 قَالَ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَل لِّیۤ ءَایَةࣰۖ قَالَ ءَایَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ ٱلنَّاسَ ثَلَـٰثَةَ أَیَّامٍ إِلَّا رَمۡزࣰاۗ وَٱذۡكُر رَّبَّكَ كَثِیرࣰا وَسَبِّحۡ بِٱلۡعَشِیِّ وَٱلۡإِبۡكَـٰرِ ۝٤١ qāla rabbi ij'ʿal lī āyatan qāla āyatuka allā tukallima l-nāsa thalāthata ayyāmin illā ramzan wa-udh'kur rabbaka kathīran wasabbiḥ bil-ʿashiyi wal-ib'kār He said, ‘My Lord, give me a sign.’ ‘Your sign,’ [the angel] said, ‘is that you will not communicate with anyone for three days, except by gestures. Remember your Lord often; celebrate His glory in the evening and at dawn.’ 42 وَإِذۡ قَالَتِ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَـٰمَرۡیَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصۡطَفَىٰكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَٱصۡطَفَىٰكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَاۤءِ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٤٢ wa-idh qālati l-malāikatu yāmaryamu inna l-laha iṣ'ṭafāki waṭahharaki wa-iṣ'ṭafāki ʿalā nisāi l-ʿālamīn The angels said to Mary: ‘Mary, God has chosen you and made you pure: He has truly chosen you above all women
