Verse 37:60 in Context

56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِینِ ٥٦
qāla tal-lahi in kidtta latur'dīn
and say to him, ‘By God, you almost brought me to ruin
57
وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّی لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِینَ ٥٧
walawlā niʿ'matu rabbī lakuntu mina l-muḥ'ḍarīn
Had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I too would have been taken to Hell.’
58
أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَیِّتِینَ ٥٨
afamā naḥnu bimayyitīn
Then he will say [to his blessed companions], ‘Are we never to die again after our earlier death
59
إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِینَ ٥٩
illā mawtatanā l-ūlā wamā naḥnu bimuʿadhabīn
Shall we never suffer
60
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ٦٠
inna hādhā lahuwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm
This truly is the supreme triumph!’
61
لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡیَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ ٦١
limith'li hādhā falyaʿmali l-ʿāmilūn
Everyone should strive to attain this
62
أَذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ٦٢
adhālika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratu l-zaqūm
Is this the better welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum
63
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ٦٣
innā jaʿalnāhā fit'natan lilẓẓālimīn
which we have made a test for the evildoers
64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةࣱ تَخۡرُجُ فِیۤ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ٦٤
innahā shajaratun takhruju fī aṣli l-jaḥīm
This tree grows in the heart of the blazing Fire
