Verse 4:125 in Context

121 أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ مَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا یَجِدُونَ عَنۡهَا مَحِیصࣰا ۝١٢١ ulāika mawāhum jahannamu walā yajidūna ʿanhā maḥīṣa Such people will have Hell for their home and will find no escape from it 122 وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۖ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣰّاۚ وَمَنۡ أَصۡدَقُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ قِیلࣰا ۝١٢٢ wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti sanud'khiluhum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqan waman aṣdaqu mina l-lahi qīla but We shall admit those who believe and do good deeds into Gardens graced with flowing streams, there to remain for ever––a true promise from God. Who speaks more truly than God 123 لَّیۡسَ بِأَمَانِیِّكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَمَانِیِّ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِۗ مَن یَعۡمَلۡ سُوۤءࣰا یُجۡزَ بِهِۦ وَلَا یَجِدۡ لَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِیࣰّا وَلَا نَصِیرࣰا ۝١٢٣ laysa bi-amāniyyikum walā amāniyyi ahli l-kitābi man yaʿmal sūan yuj'za bihi walā yajid lahu min dūni l-lahi waliyyan walā naṣīra It will not be according to your hopes or those of the People of the Book: anyone who does wrong will be requited for it and will find no one to protect or help him against God 124 وَمَن یَعۡمَلۡ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَلَا یُظۡلَمُونَ نَقِیرࣰا ۝١٢٤ waman yaʿmal mina l-ṣāliḥāti min dhakarin aw unthā wahuwa mu'minun fa-ulāika yadkhulūna l-janata walā yuẓ'lamūna naqīra anyone, male or female, who does good deeds and is a believer, will enter Paradise and will not be wronged by as much as the dip in a date stone
125 وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ دِینࣰا مِّمَّنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنࣱ وَٱتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ حَنِیفࣰاۗ وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ خَلِیلࣰا ۝١٢٥ waman aḥsanu dīnan mimman aslama wajhahu lillahi wahuwa muḥ'sinun wa-ittabaʿa millata ib'rāhīma ḥanīfan wa-ittakhadha l-lahu ib'rāhīma khalīla Who could be better in religion than those who direct themselves wholly to God, do good, and follow the religion of Abraham, who was true in faith? God took Abraham as a friend
126 وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مُّحِیطࣰا ۝١٢٦ walillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wakāna l-lahu bikulli shayin muḥīṭa It is to God that everything in the heavens and earth belongs: God is fully aware of all things 127 وَیَسۡتَفۡتُونَكَ فِی ٱلنِّسَاۤءِۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ یُفۡتِیكُمۡ فِیهِنَّ وَمَا یُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ فِی یَتَـٰمَى ٱلنِّسَاۤءِ ٱلَّـٰتِی لَا تُؤۡتُونَهُنَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُنَّ وَتَرۡغَبُونَ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ وَٱلۡمُسۡتَضۡعَفِینَ مِنَ ٱلۡوِلۡدَ ٰنِ وَأَن تَقُومُوا۟ لِلۡیَتَـٰمَىٰ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۚ وَمَا تَفۡعَلُوا۟ مِنۡ خَیۡرࣲ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِهِۦ عَلِیمࣰا ۝١٢٧ wayastaftūnaka fī l-nisāi quli l-lahu yuf'tīkum fīhinna wamā yut'lā ʿalaykum fī l-kitābi fī yatāmā l-nisāi allātī lā tu'tūnahunna mā kutiba lahunna watarghabūna an tankiḥūhunna wal-mus'taḍʿafīna mina l-wil'dāni wa-an taqūmū lil'yatāmā bil-qis'ṭi wamā tafʿalū min khayrin fa-inna l-laha kāna bihi ʿalīma They ask you [Prophet] for a ruling about women. Say, ‘God Himself gives you a ruling about them. You already have what has been recited to you in the Scripture about orphan girls [in your charge] from whom you withhold the prescribed shares [of their inheritance] and whom you wish to marry, and also about helpless children- God instructs you to treat orphans fairly: He is well aware of whatever good you do.’ 128 وَإِنِ ٱمۡرَأَةٌ خَافَتۡ مِنۢ بَعۡلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوۡ إِعۡرَاضࣰا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡهِمَاۤ أَن یُصۡلِحَا بَیۡنَهُمَا صُلۡحࣰاۚ وَٱلصُّلۡحُ خَیۡرࣱۗ وَأُحۡضِرَتِ ٱلۡأَنفُسُ ٱلشُّحَّۚ وَإِن تُحۡسِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣰا ۝١٢٨ wa-ini im'ra-atun khāfat min baʿlihā nushūzan aw iʿ'rāḍan falā junāḥa ʿalayhimā an yuṣ'liḥā baynahumā ṣul'ḥan wal-ṣul'ḥu khayrun wa-uḥ'ḍirati l-anfusu l-shuḥa wa-in tuḥ'sinū watattaqū fa-inna l-laha kāna bimā taʿmalūna khabīra If a wife fears high-handedness or alienation from her husband, neither of them will be blamed if they come to a peaceful settlement, for peace is best. Although human souls are prone to selfishness, if you do good and are mindful of God, He is well aware of all that you do 129 وَلَن تَسۡتَطِیعُوۤا۟ أَن تَعۡدِلُوا۟ بَیۡنَ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِ وَلَوۡ حَرَصۡتُمۡۖ فَلَا تَمِیلُوا۟ كُلَّ ٱلۡمَیۡلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَٱلۡمُعَلَّقَةِۚ وَإِن تُصۡلِحُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝١٢٩ walan tastaṭīʿū an taʿdilū bayna l-nisāi walaw ḥaraṣtum falā tamīlū kulla l-mayli fatadharūhā kal-muʿalaqati wa-in tuṣ'liḥū watattaqū fa-inna l-laha kāna ghafūran raḥīma You will never be able to treat your wives with equal fairness, however much you may desire to do so, but do not ignore one wife altogether, leaving her suspended [between marriage and divorce]. If you make amends and remain conscious of God, He is most forgiving and merciful
