Verse 43:58 in Context

54 فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٥٤ fa-is'takhaffa qawmahu fa-aṭāʿūhu innahum kānū qawman fāsiqīn In this way he moved his people to accept and they obeyed him- they were perverse people 55 فَلَمَّاۤ ءَاسَفُونَا ٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٥٥ falammā āsafūnā intaqamnā min'hum fa-aghraqnāhum ajmaʿīn When they provoked Us, We punished and drowned them all 56 فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ سَلَفࣰا وَمَثَلࣰا لِّلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٥٦ fajaʿalnāhum salafan wamathalan lil'ākhirīn We made them a lesson and an example for later people 57 ۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡیَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوۡمُكَ مِنۡهُ یَصِدُّونَ ۝٥٧ walammā ḍuriba ub'nu maryama mathalan idhā qawmuka min'hu yaṣiddūn When the son of Mary is cited as an example, your people [Prophet] laugh and jeer
58 وَقَالُوۤا۟ ءَأَ ٰلِهَتُنَا خَیۡرٌ أَمۡ هُوَۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلَۢاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ خَصِمُونَ ۝٥٨ waqālū aālihatunā khayrun am huwa mā ḍarabūhu laka illā jadalan bal hum qawmun khaṣimūn saying, ‘Are our gods better or him?’- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people
59 إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبۡدٌ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ مَثَلࣰا لِّبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝٥٩ in huwa illā ʿabdun anʿamnā ʿalayhi wajaʿalnāhu mathalan libanī is'rāīl but he is only a servant We favoured and made an example for the Children of Israel 60 وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلۡنَا مِنكُم مَّلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ یَخۡلُفُونَ ۝٦٠ walaw nashāu lajaʿalnā minkum malāikatan fī l-arḍi yakhlufūn if it had been Our will, We could have made you angels, succeeding one another on earth 61 وَإِنَّهُۥ لَعِلۡمࣱ لِّلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمۡتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَٱتَّبِعُونِۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦١ wa-innahu laʿil'mun lilssāʿati falā tamtarunna bihā wa-ittabiʿūni hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu This [Quran] gives knowledge of the Hour: do not doubt it. Follow Me for this is the right path 62 وَلَا یَصُدَّنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٢ walā yaṣuddannakumu l-shayṭānu innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu do not let Satan hinder you, for he is your sworn enemy
