Verse 53:16 in Context

12 أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا یَرَىٰ ۝١٢ afatumārūnahu ʿalā mā yar Are you going to dispute with him what he saw with his own eyes 13 وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ ۝١٣ walaqad raāhu nazlatan ukh'r A second time he saw him 14 عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝١٤ idh yaghshā l-sid'rata mā yaghsh by the lote tree beyond which none may pas 15 عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰۤ ۝١٥ AAindaha jannatu alma/wa near the Garden of Restfulness
16 إِذۡ یَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا یَغۡشَىٰ ۝١٦ Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha when the tree was covered in nameless [splendour]
17 مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ۝١٧ mā zāgha l-baṣaru wamā ṭagh His sight never wavered, nor was it too bold 18 لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ ۝١٨ laqad raā min āyāti rabbihi l-kub'r and he saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord 19 أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ ۝١٩ afara-aytumu l-lāta wal-ʿuz [Disbelievers], consider al-Lat and al-Uzza 20 وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ ۝٢٠ wamanata l-thālithata l-ukh'r and the third one, Manat–&ndash
