73 وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمۡ صَـٰلِحࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ هَـٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ ءَایَةࣰۖ فَذَرُوهَا تَأۡكُلۡ فِیۤ أَرۡضِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوۤءࣲ فَیَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٧٣ wa-ilā thamūda akhāhum ṣāliḥan qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu qad jāatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum hādhihi nāqatu l-lahi lakum āyatan fadharūhā takul fī arḍi l-lahi walā tamassūhā bisūin fayakhudhakum ʿadhābun alīmu To the people of Thamud We sent their brother, Salih. He said, ‘My people, serve God: you have no god other than Him. A clear sign has come to you now from your Lord: this is God’s she-camel- a sign for you- so let her graze in God’s land and do not harm her in any way, or you will be struck by a painful torment 74 وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ عَادࣲ وَبَوَّأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورࣰا وَتَنۡحِتُونَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ بُیُوتࣰاۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٧٤ wa-udh'kurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāa min baʿdi ʿādin wabawwa-akum fī l-arḍi tattakhidhūna min suhūlihā quṣūran watanḥitūna l-jibāla buyūtan fa-udh'kurū ālāa l-lahi walā taʿthaw fī l-arḍi muf'sidīn Remember how He made you heirs after 'Ad and settled you in the land to build yourselves castles on its plains and carve houses out of the mountains: remember God’s blessings and do not spread corruption in the land,’ 75 قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِمَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَتَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَـٰلِحࣰا مُّرۡسَلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧٥ qāla l-mala-u alladhīna is'takbarū min qawmihi lilladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū liman āmana min'hum ataʿlamūna anna ṣāliḥan mur'salun min rabbihi qālū innā bimā ur'sila bihi mu'minūn but the arrogant leaders among his people said to the believers they thought to be of no account, ‘Do you honestly think that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes. We believe in the message sent through him,’ 76 قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٧٦ qāla alladhīna is'takbarū innā bi-alladhī āmantum bihi kāfirūn but the arrogant leaders said, ‘We reject what you believe in,’

77 فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰصَـٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٧٧ faʿaqarū l-nāqata waʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim waqālū yāṣāliḥu i'tinā bimā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-mur'salīn and then they hamstrung the camel. They defied their Lord’s commandment and said, ‘Salih, bring down the punishment you threaten, if you really are a messenger!’

78 فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُوا۟ فِی دَارِهِمۡ جَـٰثِمِینَ ۝٧٨ fa-akhadhathumu l-rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn An earthquake seized them: by the next morning they were lying dead in their homes 79 فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّی وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٧٩ fatawallā ʿanhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālata rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum walākin lā tuḥibbūna l-nāṣiḥīn So he turned away from them, saying, ‘My people, I delivered my Lord’s messages to you and gave you sincere advice, but you did not like those who gave sincere advice.’ 80 وَلُوطًا إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنۡ أَحَدࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٠ walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi atatūna l-fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin mina l-ʿālamīn We sent Lot and he said to his people, ‘How can you practise this outrage? No one in the world has outdone you in this 81 إِنَّكُمۡ لَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهۡوَةࣰ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝٨١ innakum latatūna l-rijāla shahwatan min dūni l-nisāi bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn You lust after men rather than women! You transgress all bounds!’
